Happy 4th of July Weekend

Hope you had a wonderful Fourth of July weekend🇺🇸
Yesterday, I had no plans so watched the movie, "The Beauty and the Beast". It was the first time I have seen it and I loved it!  It was just one of those lazy days. Then by dusk, the firework started going off! My neighbors had an amazing display. This is just one of many photos I took. I had thought about sitting out on the porch to watch them, but was afraid with all the noise that 'Winter' might try to run out. And I not ever see her again...sad So, I took them through the door. I think the hours were until 11 or 11:30 that the could be fired off. So it quieted down and I got ready for bed.  It wasn’t but a few minutes and BANG! It sounded like they were right out my bedroom.  It must have gone on for another hour.  I’d start to doze off...and another BANG-it was awful. And yes, Winter was afraid, but thankfully not as bad as Rusty was.

Today I went out and was checking my flowers. My son had come over earlier and watered them. With our 90+ degree temperatures and no rain, they really need to be watered.  The marigolds are doing amazing, they look so good. My daylilies are just starting to bloom. Tomorrow I will snap a picture of them. Their just so pretty.

This is a picture of part of my granddaughters garden. They plan to freeze and can lots of food items. They have fruit trees, along with grapes. A great variety!  I got to Facetime with her and her sister today. (For two hours-😁)  We got caught up on a lot of things and tried to solve all the problems of the world. Ha Ha They are both very cautious and wear masks. And try to stay away from crowds. Very smart...I think! One has been going into work at the Vet's, while the other has been able to work from home.  But starting tomorrow she has to go in the office.

Well, I hear the booming again (which by the way is illegal). But, it’s time to go to bed.  My prayers are with all of you.

Bye for now...

Some Like it "Hot"--Not Me!!

This morning when I let Rusty out, I already felt the heat of the day. The air was heavy and I knew we were in for a HOT one...ugggg Can you believe, 89 degrees at 8:30!

The poor birds were suffering in this heat also.. It looks like they pant also.

I knew something more was coming... yesterday when I was at the hospital, this was my view out the window. Do you see the haze over the city?? It was a scorcher yesterday too. (That is a local college in the background.)

We actually ended up with a high of 95, but the heat index was 100!!

At first, I had planned on running up to the hospital around 10:00, then coming home around noon. But when I checked, I found out their valet on Saturday is only at the ER. It starts at noon. (darn) I really didn't want to wait till noon, knowing the heat would be close to its peak!! (I have to have the valet to open my back door, so I can get my scooter out.) As it turned out, Karen had one of the nurses call me and let me know, that I shouldn't come up today. They have moved her to a regular room now. But are still hoping they won't have to do surgery. I appreciate all your prayers...and good thoughts for her healing.

Hope your day was cool and that you were able to get out and enjoy it!!

Blessings..

Happy Birthday Randy and Wendy

Today is my son Randy's birthday!! Wasn't he cute when he was little??? And to think back then, we let our babies dig into 'their' cake. Today, they have small cakes just for them. (How did we ever survive?? ha! ha!)

You saw a few pictures of Randy in yesterday's post--since he and his sister's birthdays were only a day apart!! Well, three years and a day apart...to be specific!!

And today is also his daughter Wendy's birthday...lots of birthday in the spring, huh?? Wendy is the mommy of those sweet little twin girls! And what a good mommy she is!!

Our weather is warming up (for me anyway) and its rainy. Poor Rusty has to get around in a wet, grassy yard.. We got 2.32" of rain today. And had a few really big boomers!! I jumped it scared my so bad. Rusty wasn't very happy either.  Yesterday, it got to 84 degrees and my air conditioner quit...ugggg It was a long, hot night. The air-conditioner man came right away when I called this morning..(bless his heart)So tonight should make for a good nights sleep..smile..

Hope you're all well and having some good weather.

Some Like it Hot..

Today was one of the hottest days this week, I think. It was 94 with a heat index of 107 degrees! We had some errands to run, so all I can say is thank goodness for air conditioning. smile.. How did we survive years ago? We lived in an older farm house and we didn't have fans or anything. Then to think of my mother, wondering how she cooked in that terrible heat. Wow...hard to believe. I did read in her diary how her and her Mom would go down in the cellar on those hot 1936 days. (Our weatherman will put up record highs and lows and most often the record highs were in 1936.)

It was fun though today, just to go and not have to be any one place at a specific time. We headed to one, then I saw something, so we just stopped and I thought we're not on any schedule!! Then as a treat, we stopped at Red Lobster for lunch. I had a coupon for a free appetizer! We got stuffed mushrooms. I ate one and Tom and my SIL ate the rest. Do you have a favorite at Red Lobster?? I always get the "chose two lunch special". I get two of the crunchy fish. That way I can bring part of it home for another meal!

Did I ever show you Rusty's Thunder Shirt?? We got it for him over the Fourth of July..and it did help. Even though the fourth is over with, they are still have lots of summer activities...which always end with fireworks!! Our poor baby... We have to take him to the Vet Monday, as he has some lumps on his chest. Not sure what they are, maybe fatty tumors?? I don't know for sure, that is why he has to go to the doctor. Never ending..smile..

Hope you're in for a wonderful weekend.

Summer is Really Upon Us

In our forecast, today was to be very hot and it was right. They said the high was 89, but the heat index was 97. Actually, we stayed in all day, using the air conditioner to keep us cool. smile... Son, Randy came by this morning. Always so good to see him... He said tomorrow is to be even hotter...uggg The weatherman said it has been 2 years since we've hit 100 degrees. I'd just as soon have it be another 2 years before it hit that temp again...lol

Last year when we went by this apartment complex, they had beautiful flowers out front and they are back again this year. (Their probably all perennials!) I just love to see them!!

This week we had our windows washed. This company did an amazing job!! It's a lot of work, first washing the outside of the windows then coming in and taking the windows apart..then..........

going back outside and washing them. And once again coming back in and washing the storms and putting them back together!! They were so precise...wiping the fingerprints and other smudges to be sure they were perfectly clean!!

See how these plants are growing?? Eeeks...I'm so excited and can't imagine what it will look like in a few more weeks!!

Time for bed...hope you're having a cool summer weekend...

Tomatoes and Sweet Corn...

Look! Look! Look! Finally, our first tomato of the season! smile... Since there are lots of green ones on the vine, along with our 'hot' weather I'll bet there'll be lots of red ones real soon!

Tom and "Rusty" went down to the garden this morning and he took a sack instead of just his shirt...lol as I thought there would be more than usual. And of course look at all of them! (Kind of nice to be right...smile...)

So now you can see what Tom did with his tomatoes....smile.. He made  BLT's and sweet corn! Now to me that is definitely "summer's finest" meal!! I always hated to stand and fry bacon, (I even bought one of those gadgets you put in the microwave for your bacon!) But it's never the same as fried bacon! smile... Do you like this BLT's??

Tom got this picture of some of our cherry tomatoes...he said it was so hard to see them through the camera lenses. I suppose with the sun being so bright it can be very difficult. But look at all those green ones, just waiting to ripen! And I see some little yellow flowers, meaning there are more coming! yeah!! smile..

We bought some corn at this local stand. These people have been selling their produce on the main drag, and their always glad to see us! He waved at me and shook Tom's hand..smile.. When we pulled up to their stand, there weren't any other customers. Seemed they came in droves right after we got there! smile..

Now do you see that big cabbage?? Isn't that amazing? What would you do with something that big?? smile... Would it be sour kraut?? (yuck--I am not a fan of it!) However, I know there are lots of people who really love it! I like it in soup, and in casseroles, but especially in coleslaw...however can you imagine shredding all that cabbage...ha..ha... Now you know why I didn't tell Tom to buy it...toooo much work! smile...!

Hope you're having a blessed SONday!

more as it happens in the city.....
