Randy's Surgery and more

Well Wednesday, Randy had his skin graft surgery and all went well. But the donor site is very sore and painful. I feel so bad, and continue to pray for healing and comfort for him. (I'd appreciate you're good thoughts and prayers for him too...)

These are just some photo's of what I've spotted as I drove home the other day from Randy's. I ran a fan over to them. Some of these buildings, I think are so pretty.

We had some much cooler weather today. (Thank goodness..) Yesterday felt like a normal...'hot' no wind kind of summer day. Just no way to get comfortable outside. On these terribly hot days I've been putting a cold bottle of water in the mailbox. He always stops by, as I normally have something to be mailed. I try to send cards and letters to my friends and family almost everyday. Do you still use the snail mail?? It seems it is someone's birthday or anniversary. And I think it's fun to get mail!! smile.. Today we were just leaving and since it was cooler, I didn't put any water out for Matt, the mailman. He came walking up the driveway and he said it was pretty muggy and warm today. I felt so bad as there wasn't any water for him<>

Have you been enjoying any garden vegetables lately? We got a few tomatoes this week, so enjoyed them on a hamburger yesterday and I made BLT's today. They are so good. Sure nothing like you buy in the store..

Of course, Rusty is finally zonked out and it's time for bed..  So I will sign off for now. Good night!

Busy Saturday

It was that time again...Tom needed a hair cut! So we headed off to go to his barbers. I was able to sit out in the van and read a book I had brought along! smile.. It worked out great as there was only one ahead of him..but it started filling up afterwards! Then we thought we'd make a trip to the Farmers Markets! Tom found a spot in the Handicap parking lot. (It's not very big, so there was only two spots left.) Due to this shortage of parking spaces, one car had parked in between the rows of cars, which blocked several cars in,  and they couldn't leave! (I had noticed a police car pull in.) Well, as we went down the center aisle of all the vendors, I saw a policeman walking with this little old lady, as we passed by I heard him say, "We just need to find you a better parking spot." He was being so kind to her. (Bless his heart!) She must have been the one who blocked all those cars in and they must have called the police.

Here is our friend Laurie, (she filled all our pots with plants out on the porch). We just had to stop and say "Hi" and get a bouquet of fresh cut flowers from her. (I will share a pic tomorrow, they are gorgeous!) It was so funny, Tom was carrying them and people would remark, "boy, you've got a keeper!", or they'd look at him and say "good job!"...of course I'd have to agree with them! smile...

We also stopped over to see Audrey and her family. Her son (in the background) raises tomatoes and other vegetables. We picked up some of his cherry tomatoes and of course a jar of his Mom's jelly (Rhubarb and strawberry! Yumm)

Lot at those clouds...pretty and unique huh?

We had quite a surprise yesterday. My daughter in love called and said they would like to come over. (With all four great grandbabies!) I was so excited. (We were actually out and about.) After we had a bite to eat, we headed home and here come the twins along with their Meme! The other two Greats weren't able to come as baby Maggie had an upset tummy and had to go home. But these little girls were such a delightful treat. They have grown so much and are so adorable!!

We're having lightening and are in a Thunderstorm Warning...so am signing off.

Bye for now...

Twins and more...

Today our sweet little Great Granddaughters turned 18 months old. (Isn't this picture adorable? Even when their sleeping their holding on to each other...)

Not quite so cute...but look at all those sparrows.. Tom was counting them, saying "you should see all those sparrows out there"...(as he started counting them..) I said take a picture of them! He couldn't get them all in the picture!! smile....

Now for the latest "news flash" we have our first tomato of the year!! And there are 7 more out there, but their green! So, here you have it all sorts of firsts...the first time the twins are 18 months old, the first time we've seen that many sparrows and of course the first tomato of the year!!!!

Hope your having a good week!!

Blessings and good night!

Red Skies to Start off our Day...

We woke up early this morning and this is what we saw when the sun was rising...beautiful!! I should have asked Tom to step our and take a better picture, but I had got him up early and I think he was tired...lol Have you ever heard "Red skies in the morning-sailor take warning" or "Red skies at night sailors delight"?

I spotted this Downy Woodpecker at the suet yesterday... I think they are so pretty!

Look at Tom's haul this morning!! smile... We're still getting them, which is such a blessing. But check out those cute little peppers..I couldn't believe how small they are. But I will freeze them for using in soups etc. this winter. We can't believe how perfect these tomatoes are. I'm going to look up what kind they are, and if the receipt doesn't say, I'll call the greenhouse. We want to plant them again next year!!! If you'd like, I will share the information with you when I find out, or maybe you have your favorites!!

Ha...ha...look at this little thing! "Shall we stuff it? If so with what? Leftover meatloaf??" smile... Speaking of...we made meatloaf yesterday, it was so good! And we have some leftovers, great for sandwiches!! Do you like meatloaf?

Today, I froze 3 quarts of (leftover) chili, which we will enjoy one day when we don't feel like cooking. Tom made BBQ country style ribs and baked potatoes for dinner today...yummm His sister was hungry for them, so she had bought two packages...lol So we have lots of leftovers..she will get her fill of them as will we..smile..

Look what I spotted at the birdbath this morning..smile.. I think there were 11 or 12 sparrows drinking and swimming in the freshly filled bird bath! They are busy at the feeders everyday also! But..they are one of God's creatures and they need to eat, drink and bathe too.

What kind of week do you have planned??

Sweet Cousins

Isn't this adorable?? All three sweet little cousins playing together!!! Can you believe how big they are all getting?? Their Grandma posted this picture on Facebook! What did we do before Facebook?? smile...

Yesterday we went out to eat, then over to WalMart for groceries. It had been a long time since we had been grocery shopping. But WalMart is such a large store...I don't think we got everything we needed. sad... Even though I rode around on the scooter, I was tired when we got home. Then I got sick, so not sure if it was something I ate or what. I feeling a little better today, but my tummy is still rolling. Their having a 'birthday' party for sweet little Lorelai tomorrow, so am praying I feel better by then.

I did get the recipe for the Ham Balls and posted it on my recipe page. For those of you who were interested I'm sure you'll enjoy making them!!

We froze our tomatoes, but am afraid we're going to run out of room in the freezer before they are all done producing...smile.. So, how has your day been going??

Plentiful Day...

Today Tom went down to the garden (with Rusty) and picked all the tomatoes and green peppers that were ripe. Goodness look at the bounty!! We'll be freezing most of them (once we get some gallon freezer bags!) That is where we're going tomorrow...we have a shopping list, I think a mile long..smile..

Last night we went to our monthly potluck. It was so nice to see everyone and of course the food was wonderful!!! We sat with our friends and she had made "ham balls" and cupcakes. So, when it was time to go home...she said would you like the ham balls and the cupcakes, I don't want to have to take them home! Yeah!! I'm going to ask her for the recipe and when she gives it to me...I'll post it here.  They paired quite nicely with our sweet corn for lunch today!! smile.. Look at my sweet corn holder and picks! I've had them forever...not sure where I found them or when. But I'm sure I've had them for a long time!

My friend stopped by and fixed my hair this morning...so I sent a cupcake with her as she headed back to work!! smile....

Tomorrow, as you all know is Friday the 13th...any plans?? Like I said before we're going shopping...there are plenty of Friday the 13th sales.

Internet...what happened??

So has your day been going? We've had lots of internet issues today. We have our TV, internet and phone all from one provider.  Which can be great in some ways, but like today we were out of internet and telephone service both. But, we were so thankful the TV still worked...ha..ha...

The other day I spotted this pigeon and thought it was so pretty!! I know they can be a nuisance , but they are neat to see and watch!!!

My friend Sherry came up yesterday and cleaned the house for us. She does such an amazing job...I just love her!! She's coming up next Wednesday to help me clean/straighten up my office. She use to help me do the same thing at work. After the end of the year, we'd pack up the previous years papers, so she's use to helping me...ha...ha... Maybe I can get a little more organized and do some scrapbooking!! I have a major project I need to start working on!!

Our friend stopped by this morning and fixed my hair!! big smile... She is so nice and such a dear friend of ours. She makes me feel like a new woman...smile...

Tom harvested lots of tomatoes (big and small!) yesterday. Some were a little green, but after Tom put them on the window sill, they were looking pretty red today!! yummm.. He grilled steaks and made some sweet corn for lunch today. He fixed it on his Big Green Egg and used Montreal steak Seasoning. That is one of the best seasoning we've ever had! Have you tried it??

Well, about bed time, hope you've had a good day.

Tomatoes and Sweet Corn...

Look! Look! Look! Finally, our first tomato of the season! smile... Since there are lots of green ones on the vine, along with our 'hot' weather I'll bet there'll be lots of red ones real soon!

Tom and "Rusty" went down to the garden this morning and he took a sack instead of just his shirt...lol as I thought there would be more than usual. And of course look at all of them! (Kind of nice to be right...smile...)

So now you can see what Tom did with his tomatoes....smile.. He made  BLT's and sweet corn! Now to me that is definitely "summer's finest" meal!! I always hated to stand and fry bacon, (I even bought one of those gadgets you put in the microwave for your bacon!) But it's never the same as fried bacon! smile... Do you like this BLT's??

Tom got this picture of some of our cherry tomatoes...he said it was so hard to see them through the camera lenses. I suppose with the sun being so bright it can be very difficult. But look at all those green ones, just waiting to ripen! And I see some little yellow flowers, meaning there are more coming! yeah!! smile..

We bought some corn at this local stand. These people have been selling their produce on the main drag, and their always glad to see us! He waved at me and shook Tom's hand..smile.. When we pulled up to their stand, there weren't any other customers. Seemed they came in droves right after we got there! smile..

Now do you see that big cabbage?? Isn't that amazing? What would you do with something that big?? smile... Would it be sour kraut?? (yuck--I am not a fan of it!) However, I know there are lots of people who really love it! I like it in soup, and in casseroles, but especially in coleslaw...however can you imagine shredding all that cabbage...ha..ha... Now you know why I didn't tell Tom to buy it...toooo much work! smile...!

Hope you're having a blessed SONday!

More to Blog About...

Look at these amazing...yummy...delicious tomatoes!! Some of my favorites are those 'chocolate' ones. Look at that bottom one...looks just like a "chocolate covered strawberry"...smile.. (Our granddaughter said she couldn't find them at their Farmers Market in Alabama.) We really like all the tomatoes that this one booth sells at the Farmers Market, but these seem to be my favorite. A nice variety of them.

Tom spotted this butterfly lying on the deck yesterday. Aren't they pretty??

Here is a closer picture of those flowers we got yesterday. They are so pretty... "Grandma's Gardens" is the name of her flower business. She is on Facebook, so I took her business card...she told me there were several of them, but hers had the name of the town she lived in. And guess what, it was where I grew up. Small world!

Tom took this picture of my Mother's Day plant my son gave me:) I had promised I would get a picture of it for you after it was in full bloom...then I forgot, now it's on it's second (or so) go around! (also it needs a little deadheading...smile...)

And last but not least...look what I spotted out the window, our day lilies are in full bloom...finally! I've been waiting and watching...but this has been a late year for all of us.

Well, how has your day been? We had company this morning. My friend comes about every couple weeks, we always enjoy our visits. The weather was warm again today around 90. But...I have to remember it's almost the beginning of August!!

Scorching Hot Day Again...

This morning we woke up (very early) and soon the sun was rising, there was a fog across the land and it looked like some parts north of us possibly were getting a few showers. But with the cloudy skies I thought maybe it wouldn't be too HOT today. However, it turned out to be 101 degrees...yikes!!! So you know what we did...we stayed in the house/air conditioning!! smile... Sounds like a HOT week coming up too...sad... However, I'm hoping by "Red Hat" Friday it will be some cooler.. I missed last month due to the heat and hope I won't have to miss it again this month...

When we came home yesterday, we saw our sweetcorn man heading down the street. This year he has changed his location...so we almost lost him...ha..ha... but Tom spotted him...and we pulled in right behind him..ha... Tom hopped out and said "Hi"..of course he remembered us! Poor guy didn't even get to set up! We were his first sale of the day...lol We got a dozen ears of corn and a muskmelon! Both are amazing...don't you just love this time of the year?? Of course you know Tom has his own tomatoes, and they are amazing too.... What fruits and vegetables are you enjoying now??

When Glendena and I were going through some of the old photos, we decided this was a picture of Grandpa Phil and myself.. Isn't that a great picture? Look at that fish he caught!! smile..

Tomorrow I'll have to do some busy paperwork...I worked on some today, but since I took my shot last night..my energy level wasn't that great!! smile... So most of the afternoon we did nothing but watch TV..smile...

Hope you've had a good 'start of the week' day.....

Hot Summer SONday...

Today Tom went out to the garden again..smile... I had him trim off some basil and hopefully tomorrow we'll pick more and try to make some pesto. We've talked about doing this every year and maybe this will be the year of the Pesto!...smile...

I looked out and saw the birds at the feeder off and on all day. Of course they were also enjoying the bird bath...as it was a very HOT day..so they like us need to stay cool. I'm sure they need the food to give them the energy to make it through the day.

While looking out...I noticed how badly this plant needs to be deadheaded... Maybe tomorrow morning before it hits the 100 mark we'll be able to get out and do something.

Today we just stayed in and watched a lot of TV, including our Church ministry we enjoy when we're not able to attend our own church services. Tom made a beautiful green salad for lunch. When my daughter Brenda was here last summer, she told us about all we could mix into our greens....so I took her advice and told Tom, lets add a little sweet corn, craisens, tomatoes, shredded turkey and  cheese. It was really yummy and cool on a very HOT day! How was your day? Cool, I hope.....

I Hit a Thousand.....

Tom went out early this morning to water all the plants and the garden before the heat of the day! When he came in he had his shirt full of Sweet 100's...smile They are so good, much better than the ones I had earlier. The skins are not as thick! Yum...yum...

Afterwards, we went down to exercise and stretch. I always exercise on my step machine...and today, I 'stepped' 1,000 steps in 10 minutes! Yeah! Normally, I was at around 700, so I've been 'stepping' it up! (no pun intended!!

This afternoon we headed to a seminar on the drug I take for my MS. They have a new injector available instead of using that 'big long' needle...smile.. I think I will like using it...but still have to play with it for awhile. (They have sample injectors to try out, without the medication of course.) When we were heading home, these were the clouds we saw...and had a few sprinkles..sad... South of the city did however get a nice rain...so that was good for them, as we all need it.

Tom had spotted this little 'scooter' at the grocery store a few times and today he saw the owner!! smile... Cute isn't he??

Hope you are all having a wonderful weekend...ours is HOT and tomorrow is to be worse...so we will be watching church on TV!

Farmers Market

I figured I'd wake up bright and early this morning since I knew we were going to the Farmer's Market! Yeah!!! But..........we slept in...hummm....however, my first thought was something a friend told me last night...'so what?' smile..  We were at an MS Seminar last night and I was telling an elderly friend how different it is since I'm no longer working (retired...smile), like I don't get the things done like I did when I worked. The first words out of her mouth were "so what?" ha...ha...

We finally got going about 10 a.m. and it was busy...busy...busy! Love it!!!

There were all sorts of tables...selling everything...from food to flowers...

Speaking of flowers...this lady was so...so busy..she had the prettiest flowers you'd ever want to see... I even bought something from her. smile...

We stopped by our friends booth...she said she had missed us and was worried that something had happened. She was relieved to see us...just makes me  smile... Look at all these tomatoes...can you imagine what their farm looks like?? Her son..looking at me in the bright green shirt raises all of them!

I just loved these cute little "tu..tu's"...aren't they just the sweetest??

This shows the busy-ness of everything going on. Old and young people, dogs, babies and food!

We worked our way back to our friends stand (and look at the line up of people buying..buying and buying!) smile... Of course my Tom (in his hat) was waiting to buy some yumm...yumm tomatoes!

I love these...first dad pushing his twins (cute...), mom walking with their dog (I think it's a Labadoodle)...then the dad with his 2 week old baby girl...(yes he had her covered up...I just asked to see her..smile...) then the little gray dog..(not a good shot..sorry...) it was so cute... and finally the pointer (brown and white)...which belongs to my dentist! He stopped me and said "Hi Gert"! I said "Hi!"...then he said 'you don't know who I am do you??' I had to admit, I didn't...smile... When he told me, I felt so bad..but he just laughed...however, those shorts and baseball cap...sure didn't look anything like his uniform he usually wears...smile.. We didn't stay too long as it was very hot...I looked and saw the back of Tom's shirt was wet...so I knew he was sweating and getting too "hot". As soon as I got in the van, my face felt really hot..I looked in the mirror and it was really 'red'...whoops...you can sure tell I'm not use to being out in the sun!  The rest of the morning we ran a few errands and ate out...smile... We had a high of 89, so this air-conditioning feels very good! How about you?? How was your day??
