Cold Night

Speaking of cold...this is what the river looked like today. Check out that ice floating down the Missouri...brrrrr

It was so bitter cold last night! And can you believe we went to our monthly potluck. All day, the sun was shining and it looked so beautiful outside. But, my son told me..Mom, the sunshine is deceiving..it's cold!! (He was right..) We were inside all day, my friend came up and cleaned the house...(awww it feels so good to have a clean house again!) Then my other friend came by and fixed my hair. Seemed like all of a sudden we were suppose to head out to the potluck. We had such a nice time, and as always, it was so good to see everyone. BUT it was so...so COLD. The temperature was low, but with the wind, it drove it down to about 0. However, after we got home (when we thought it felt terrible outside) the wind increased, to the point it made the house creak, moan and groan. I was so glad it waited for us to get home...smile...

How about you? What kind of weather are you experiencing??

Meet Klop!

I just had to share "Klop" with you! The other night we had our monthly potluck, we usually have a dear friend who opens the building up that we meet in. However, he had a massive heart attack a while back and is still healing. So another gentleman opens up for us. And this is his dog!!

After everyone leaves, we call him and he comes back over to lock up. I heard the door open, and looked up and this is what I saw! smile.. A gentle giant "Klop!" and Gene! I asked 'why Klop??' He laughed and said...cause when he walks across the floor he goes klop-klop-klop! ha...ha... He recused him, he is a great dane and had been in a very bad home. I know he is a really happy dog now and is cared for and loved by Gene and his family.

We saw this scene the other day....the sign says Private Property...and yet the lot was full of turkeys. Not sure if they put up the sign and it's their property or they are trespassing...lol

Look at these sparrows, so loving..I think they were feeding each other. I'd see the one standing fly over to the feeder then bring something back to the other one....smile..

No moon out here tonight...we're having overcast skies and rain..sad...I hope some of you are able to enjoy that Super Moon tonight..

Fathers Day and Reunion

Here is Tom taking some photos today, while we were having our Reunion Potluck! The day started with church, then later we had our potluck.

Here we are, check out Tom hugging this lovely 83 year old lady, her son is beside her (in the red shirt). Lucy had a sister Lola (who passed away a few years ago.) They both were so pretty and continued to look Amazing all their lives.

At the beginning we thought we were only going to have dessert and chicken to eat! The Committee always buys fried chicken for the dinner. But as the people started coming..there were lots and lots of other food! I think since some of us were early, we decided to bring something we didn't have to worry about being hot or cold! (We made the chocolate cake..quick and easy!!) I figured it must have been good, when I saw the newspaper reporter having a piece and then took one with him for later...lol I brought a piece of apple pie home for Tom's sister...I knew she would love it, as the pie lady always makes the best pies and there are never any pieces left...lol I had the cream puff crust with pudding, cool whip and strawberries on it dessert. Another lady who makes the BEST food!  Anyway, we  did have a wonderful day, with friends, music and great food.

Tom did have a call from his son, and text from his granddaughters! They all made him feel really special!

The dinner last night actually had a good attendance, but with the threat of rain storms, hail and tornados..we chose to stay home. We did get around 6 inches of rain and some hail. It was later and about the time we would probably have been coming home. (So...good call Tom!)

Hope you had a blessed and safe weekend!

Christmas Potluck..

Look at how cold it was this morning...smile...with the sun rising in the eastern skies. Last night, was so cold, with the wind chills making it feel unbelievable cold! We had our South Bottoms Christmas potluck. Tom said he would get my scooter out, so I didn't have to walk, I told him, he had to wear his gloves and ear muffs if he did that. I think he only wore his gloves... (he doesn't always listen to me..lol)  It was so much fun, and there was such amazing food! One of the ladies, who was born and raised down there had her 89th birthday yesterday!! Her sons came with her, she made one of the turkeys we had...along with the best gravy you ever ate. How amazing...God is so good, he has blessed her with a loving family, friends and good health!

Hope you're ready for a nice weekend!

Blessings...

Plentiful Day...

Today Tom went down to the garden (with Rusty) and picked all the tomatoes and green peppers that were ripe. Goodness look at the bounty!! We'll be freezing most of them (once we get some gallon freezer bags!) That is where we're going tomorrow...we have a shopping list, I think a mile long..smile..

Last night we went to our monthly potluck. It was so nice to see everyone and of course the food was wonderful!!! We sat with our friends and she had made "ham balls" and cupcakes. So, when it was time to go home...she said would you like the ham balls and the cupcakes, I don't want to have to take them home! Yeah!! I'm going to ask her for the recipe and when she gives it to me...I'll post it here.  They paired quite nicely with our sweet corn for lunch today!! smile.. Look at my sweet corn holder and picks! I've had them forever...not sure where I found them or when. But I'm sure I've had them for a long time!

My friend stopped by and fixed my hair this morning...so I sent a cupcake with her as she headed back to work!! smile....

Tomorrow, as you all know is Friday the 13th...any plans?? Like I said before we're going shopping...there are plenty of Friday the 13th sales.

12-12-12

Yesterday morning when Tom brought the mail in...there was a package among the mail. I was just so excited...and who wouldn't be?? Don't we all just love to get packages in the mail?? This was a total surprise and came from a Tweeter/Facebook friend. She is just an amazing lady. Since she lives west of us...she always lets me know what kind of weather we are to expect in the next few days. smile... Rusty was just as curious of what was in the box as I was...smile...  Look at that adorable cardinal ornament for our Christmas tree!! (Tom took it right over and found just the right spot to hang it on the tree.) And then there was a Susan Branch photo book! I can't wait to fill it up!!! And look at the Christmas card she made! Adorable!!!

As I walked by the window..look at this big boy enjoying the suet Tom put out the other day! smile...

We took Rusty back to the vet yesterday to get his stitches out! He was a really good boy..he hadn't chewed on his tail and so it healed properly. He did real good and all is well! Now he is able to go to the groomer tomorrow and get all prettied up! smile...

My daughter reminded me that since yesterday was 12-12-12 she was going to take a few pictures to remember the day....so I copied her and did the same! the top one was our beautiful skies early in the morning, then we headed off to take Rusty to the vet, I got this picture showing the new bridge they are putting in going over to Nebraska. Next, the price of fuel was $3.06 (which fluctuates everyday! smile...) Later in the day we headed off to our South Bottoms potluck, and I spotted this yard full of pretty lights! And the group lining up to fill their plates with wonderful, scrumptious food! Then as we were walking out, I spotted that one single bright star in the clear nights sky! smile...

I hope you are having a good week and finishing up your Christmas errands.

Christmas Past

I was checking out some old Christmas photos and I came across this one. This is me in 1959, some of the things I see, I'm kneeling in front of our 'artificial' tree, showing off my travel suitcase that my folks got me for Christmas (and I still have it today!) I think the clothes I had on were gifts also! I see Mom must have gotten a new coffee maker! Also, I noticed the window...where I had stenciled with spray snow, Santa flying across the snow laden hills! We lived in a 5 bedroom farm house, but the upstairs wasn't heated in the winter, so my brothers slept on a fold out couch in the front room. You can see their clothes laying on the sewing machine and hanging on the curtain rod! I had a bed in my folk's bedroom. I think that is why I always loved springtime the best, as that is when we got to have our own bedrooms again upstairs!! smile....

I thought you would like to see our little Rusty the other night. I about cracked up, when I looked over there and saw how he was holding his treat in his mouth! Looks just like a big cigar doesn't it? ha...ha...
Tomorrow we take him back out to the vet to get his stitches taken out! He has been such a good boy, we didn't even need to use the collar...as he didn't chew on his tail.

I told you, I'd share some of the fun we had at our Red Hat Christmas luncheon. Three ladies 'volunteered' and  they had three helpers and they decorated each one turning them into angels! They were given white tissue paper, ribbon, gold cord and scotch tape! Didn't they all do a great job?? smile....

We made some crock-pot dressing this afternoon and will turn it on tomorrow for our South Bottoms Christmas potluck! It should be amazing and lots of fun!

I hope you are having a good week!

Went to the Mall today...

Yes, today was Mall day! smile... We don't get out there very often, so was fun to check it out this morning! It was so funny...this 'choo..choo' train was running up and down the aisles... It wouldn't be long..and the train's whistle would be going off again, and he'd zoom by us..ha.. (Oh to be a kid again...smile...)

Tom was checking out the tree's covered with fake snow... (he said it was very soft!...ha) I was talking to a lady and mentioned how I loved the center Mall display of all the snow and trees, fireplace etc. (where Santa will sit and you can have your picture taken with him!). She said where are you from? I had to admit..right here in town...smile.. She came from a city north of us!

Did you notice that sack Tom is carrying?? That just happened to be my new Susan Branch calendar...

They had rows and rows of calendars in the center court...I looked and looked, and finally asked if they had any Susan Branch calendars...her response surprised me when she said "Yes, I do..." I thought, wonderful...but where are they??  I really shouldn't have cared where they were as long as they had them...smile.. Then I saw the little purse calendar and had to get that too...smile...

When we came home, look what was in the neighbors yard!! Isn't he pretty??? Amazing..how they can be so wild, yet so tame...

Our potluck last night was really nice, and so fun to be around people we enjoy and care about. Always so much wonderful and different food! We did take the Wild Rice Soup and am attaching the recipe, as some of you said you had never made it before. I hope you enjoy it, if you choose to make it!!
