Farmers Market

I figured I'd wake up bright and early this morning since I knew we were going to the Farmer's Market! Yeah!!! But..........we slept in...hummm....however, my first thought was something a friend told me last night...'so what?' smile..  We were at an MS Seminar last night and I was telling an elderly friend how different it is since I'm no longer working (retired...smile), like I don't get the things done like I did when I worked. The first words out of her mouth were "so what?" ha...ha...

We finally got going about 10 a.m. and it was busy...busy...busy! Love it!!!

There were all sorts of tables...selling everything...from food to flowers...

Speaking of flowers...this lady was so...so busy..she had the prettiest flowers you'd ever want to see... I even bought something from her. smile...

We stopped by our friends booth...she said she had missed us and was worried that something had happened. She was relieved to see us...just makes me  smile... Look at all these tomatoes...can you imagine what their farm looks like?? Her son..looking at me in the bright green shirt raises all of them!

I just loved these cute little "tu..tu's"...aren't they just the sweetest??

This shows the busy-ness of everything going on. Old and young people, dogs, babies and food!

We worked our way back to our friends stand (and look at the line up of people buying..buying and buying!) smile... Of course my Tom (in his hat) was waiting to buy some yumm...yumm tomatoes!

I love these...first dad pushing his twins (cute...), mom walking with their dog (I think it's a Labadoodle)...then the dad with his 2 week old baby girl...(yes he had her covered up...I just asked to see her..smile...) then the little gray dog..(not a good shot..sorry...) it was so cute... and finally the pointer (brown and white)...which belongs to my dentist! He stopped me and said "Hi Gert"! I said "Hi!"...then he said 'you don't know who I am do you??' I had to admit, I didn't...smile... When he told me, I felt so bad..but he just laughed...however, those shorts and baseball cap...sure didn't look anything like his uniform he usually wears...smile.. We didn't stay too long as it was very hot...I looked and saw the back of Tom's shirt was wet...so I knew he was sweating and getting too "hot". As soon as I got in the van, my face felt really hot..I looked in the mirror and it was really 'red'...whoops...you can sure tell I'm not use to being out in the sun!  The rest of the morning we ran a few errands and ate out...smile... We had a high of 89, so this air-conditioning feels very good! How about you?? How was your day??

Sweet visitors.....

Remember last Saturday I had intentions of going to a baby shower, for my best friends daughter, but due to the stairs in the building where they were holding it I wasn't able to go??? Well, today they came to us...smile... How exciting that was...Ariah Christine is such a good baby!!!!

Even Tom thought she was a precious....little sweetheart!!  I held her for a long time... and she just slept and slept. She is a month old and weighs a little over 10 lbs... precious...........

Then we had to get out in the 'heat' and take a picture! I know....with heat index's of around 105 degrees and actual temps of 94....you've got to wonder why we would have to get out at this exact time!! Our iOWA magazine asked it's readers to participate in a photo shoot! At exactly 3 p.m. all around the state of Iowa people were snapping pictures of things that were happening in their neighborhood!!! Won't it be fun to see all those pictures???  If they get enough, they may make a book of them...  Actually, this isn't the picture we submitted, but was taken a little afterwards.. smile... from the same area!! And actually...Tom took the picture, while I sat in the air conditioned car. smile.... One of my very favorite articles in this magazine is "Amish Farm Wife's Diary", the minute I get it...I have to read her article... If you like really good, interesting and beautiful magazines, be sure and check out "Our iOWA" magazine!!  What kind of magazines are your favorites???

Granddaughter Lacey's Baby Shower...and more....

"God doesn’t move in your life when you struggle; He moves when you pray." How true this quote by Joyce Meyers is... I knew my granddaughter's baby shower was to be Sunday at her other grandma's. But I understood it was to be outside! And since the forecast was to be 95 degrees and feel like 105, I was worried (waste of time)..as everyone knows I don't do heat!! I told Tom, I'd just go for about an hour...then as I lay there in the night...(fretting about it) I thought no...I'll go for just a half an hour..(smile) I "finally" decided to 'pray' by asking God to get me through this... When morning came...I found out that we would be inside since it was so oppressively "hot"..smile... When I thought back on this quote by Joyce I realized just how true it was....pray...pray...pray!

I had such a fun time at the baby shower... Lacey looks so good and is excited about the coming arrival of her baby girl!!! And oh my gosh she received so many wonderful gifts!! Her sister Wendy put this shower on and everything was great...the food, the games and just what an exciting time we had...but especially Lacey!! I'm sure she was a 'tired' little mommy to be last night...smile.. If she was anything like her grandma I know she was pooped out...

And another granddaughter..........smile...........
I need prayers for our granddaughter Amanda who lives in Georgia, she will be having surgery on her wrist tomorrow. We just pray it will not be major and that she won't have to wear a 'big' cast for a long time and that it will heal properly. She will be starting her senior year this fall, and as we all know this should be the best school year!!!

Just had to share this picture of little Rusty..taking a nap this morning! smile... This pose doesn't usually last too long as he usually flops back over on his side. I think this is why he likes his kennel...he rolls up against the side and can lay on his back for a very long time...smile...

After lunch today we baked some banana bread. I have been eye balling those banana's on the counter for a few days and procrastinating about whether I should bake some bread or just throw them in the freezer..smile...  I finally decided to do the right thing and bake the bread!! And since I only had two 'counter' bananas and the recipe calls for three...I dug one out of the freezer... Do you ever do this? I think it's such a great idea...as banana's always look so good in the store and we seem to buy more than we can eat! (I don't care for them once they start to get soft & mushy....)

I will put this recipe up and hope you might try it....if you're in the mood! (smile)

Banana Bread

3 bananas, mashed
1 C sugar
2 eggs, slightly beaten
1 tsp. baking soda, dissolved in
2 Tbls. boiling water
1/2 C oil
2 C flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1/2 C chopped nuts

Mash bananas together with sugar & let stand for 15 minutes. Add oil. combine dry ingredients, sift together  & add to banana mixture. Bake in well greased loaf pan at 350 degrees for 50-60 minutes. Note* I used 3 smaller loaf pans instead of the big one.

Just a little food for thought..."When you are baking...always check the doneness when you start to smell it"..

Thank you all so much for your wonderful comments and for taking the time to read my little blog...smile.. God bless.......

Went to school today. Everyone thought I was so much thinner. Even Bonnie thought so. Betty T. said I was pretty. Elaine and I stayed after school as they had play practice. Bertha's guy from Sergeant Bluff came after her. Madeline and Mrs. Crabb were down.
