Don't you just love my coffee cup?? It is absolutely gorgeous! When Betty (from Australia) came to visit, she brought Tom and I these cups. At first, I was going to put them up on a kitchen shelf, then I thought we should really enjoy them, which we are doing! And the wonderful thing I like is each time I take a sip of coffee from my cup, I think of our friend Betty!! 

  

Today, we had a family gathering. These folks are Tom's second cousins.Two of the girls are from out of town and come back to visit their brothers and sisters a couple times a year. We all met at a Perkin's Restaurant for coffee, pie and conversation !!  I got the banana cream and Tom got the lemon meringue! Yumm they were delicious!!

 

It was a nice day and we were happy to have shared it with family.

 

How was your day? Good we hope, Rusty seemed better this morning but is having a little harder time tonight. He has arthritis in his hip and is on medication for that. I will call the vet in the morning and see what they say.

Off for a haircut..

Our American flag flies high, and I always love to photograph it when we drive by! 

The other day, we headed across the river to get Tom's haircut. (See that single boat out there cruising up the river?)

Yes siree bob, that is a whole lot of cream on that banana cream pie!!! smile...

But now look at Tom's Raisin cream pie, that is really a high meringue...lol (That is what this restaurant is known for.) Actually, its a truck stop. It has been around for sixty plus years. I remember stopping there back when my older brother was a teenager. (His girlfriend was a waitress there...lol) Tom and Karen had a hot beef and I had a club sandwich. (I brought three fourths of my pie and half of my sandwich home!) Tom and I finished it up for supper...lol Do you ever buy things when you eat out, with the intentions of bringing part of it home for later???

As we were leaving, Tom noticed this old Model T. We asked the waitress if she knew who owned it. She pointed him out and said he'd love to talk about his car...lol I asked him if we could take some pictures, he said "Sure as long as you don't take the car.." smile...

 

What a cool car, from the headlights, to the windshield wipers, the spare tire, and finally to the 'rumble seat' in the back. You probably can't see them, but there were steps on the bumper and the rear fender, you'd use to get into the rumble seat!! So awesome!!

 

Just another reason to love summertime!

All About Rusty..

 

Early Wednesday morning I looked up and this is what I saw. Rusty on his perch checking out what was going on in the backyard. And Tom reading the paper! So the day begins...

 

 

This is so funny, Sherry was here cleaning, and she was washing Rusty's food and water dishes. He was watching her like a hawk. It was hilarious!! He didn't want her messing with 'his' stuff...lol

 

 

He is so funny, Tom had filled his dish with the end of his dog food the night before. Half the time he won't touch it for a day or two. However, since we didn't really want to get out Wednesday...he had to eat the whole this! So...out we went to Petco..lol Rusty rules!!!

 

The last couple days have been, well I don't want to say busy again, but my plans for the days, continue to change. So....I'm behind on things I need to get done. sad... Maybe, maybe tomorrow will be more organized!! ha..ha..

 

Yesterday, Tom noticed the fridge door had a broken piece on it. I went on line and found a replacement one and ordered it. Here it was on our door step this morning! I was so surprised...(happily that is), we put it on and viola! It's fixed again..smile...

 

I've been wanting to make a green tomato pie...have any of you made one?? They say they taste a lot like an apple pie. Maybe tomorrow...

 

 

Flowers, Birds and Pie..

I looked out our window and spotted this Nuthatch (I think) getting a drink of water!! (Where's the camera I thought..smile) Our flowers are blooming so pretty...Tom does have to water them often and thank goodness the storm last night (high winds) didn't bother them at all.. Now...the bird bath..do you see all those shiny pennies?? Tom puts them in to help keep the bottom 'clean'...ahem.. from up here I'm not so sure it's working. lol We bought this at least 20 years ago for about $20 dollars or less. The last couple years we wake up every so often and notice the top is laying on the patio! The only thing we can figure out is it's the deer knocking it off. ~~Strange~~ That is why it's so cracked, chipped and bruised!!

He's heading for a seed...head back...ready to strike! smile...

This is why I figured it was a robin...he looks kind of 'different' don't you think? Have you seen one that looks like this?? Please tell me yes...smile.... I'd hate to have the only one who looks like this. smile..

Yesterday,  my sister in law and I made this  Rhubarb Crumb pie.  (If you're interested in the recipe, please click on Rhubarb Crumb.) I sat at the kitchen table and read her the recipe (smile), I also found some of the ingredients in the cupboards...and cut the butter into the topping! Then into the oven it went...viola this is what we got!

It turned out really yummy...(thank goodness for spring and summer to grow rhubarb in Iowa..smile)... especially with a little ice cream to top it off!  Speaking of topping something off...yesterday afternoon, my daughter and granddaughters Face Timed with me! What fun! It felt just like I was sitting out on her deck enjoying their company! Technology is amazing!!

What will you be doing this week?? Tomorrow, we get our stitches out (yeah) and won't stay away from home too long since it's going to be very "Hot" here. What is your weather like??
