Feeling Blessed and Cool

Aren't these pretty?? They were fresh cut today from my friends garden! She has Grandma's Gardens! She is the lady who has potted all my flowers out on our porch! smile.. I had another half planter that I like to hang on the garage. She thought she was late getting it back to me. So after the Farmers Market today, she brought it over and gave me this beautiful bouquet for her lateness. (too sweet) I have it sitting on our fireplace mantel, and every time I look up and see them, I smile both,on the inside as well as the outside!!

Look at it, didn't she do an amazing job?? It's so pretty. I almost cried when she showed it to me. She is so gifted and makes me so happy.

It was quite warm today, so we made some watermelon slush. It was the first time I'd made it (of course with Tom's help!)

I diced 5 cups of watermelon.

Then added 1 cup of ice, 2 Tablespoons of sugar  and juice of 1 lime (I used lime flavoring) and blended till smooth! Serve immediately!!

And here it is....watermelon slush!! It was so yummy!! Have you ever made it before?? If not it is so easy and worth a try.

Hope you had a wonderful Fourth!!

Busy Weekend

Yesterday, our weather was pretty un-predicable! Rusty was somewhat nervous I guess, he jumped into my lap and just sat there. (Which he seldom does.) So, I thought I'd do a selfie! smile...

We did go to our dinner last night. It was very nice. The food was delicious and way too much as always. It was so fun to see so many people again. Later, we kept hearing some thunder and thought "Oh no, its going to rain and storm before we leave". But, you know, you can't just leave when your on a committee. So, there was clean up and get ready for the next day. When we finally left it was just barely sprinkling! After we got home, the storm started, lightening, thunder and rain coming down like crazy!! Praise God we all made it home safely!!

Today we went to church first, then headed over for fellowship. Soon, Tom and Ray headed to WalMart to pick up the fried chicken for the potluck. (Which had been ordered and paid for.) Well, they were gone for a couple hours, I called Tom and he said WalMart said they had lost the order!!! So, they had to stand and wait for those 100 pieces of chicken to be cooked!!! sad....
Since it was a potluck, I thought about this Fruit Salad to make, but it was buried in my recipe box. It was an old recipe as you can see by the picture. smile...  It was always Tom's favorite, but I just forgot about it until the other night. (Probably because it was buried...hee...hee!) Have you ever made it?

The day was nice, but we didn't have a very big crowd. But those who were there made it all worthwhile.
Dear, dear friends.

Blue Zone Area

I made this quick cake in the microwave awhile back. So easy, and I'm sure I posted about it before. You mix one box of angel food cake mix, with another box of whatever you like. I mixed mine with a chocolate cake mix. You mix and store it in a gallon zip lock bag. Then all you do, is mix 3 Tbls. of this mix, 2 Tbls. water and cook 1 minute in the microwave! Viola!  A quick and yummy dessert. I just put a dollop of Cool Whip on top!

Blue Zone Area. Do you have a Blue Zone Project where you live?? They started it here a couple years ago. All different businesses have joined it. It's to make a healthier city. Diet, exercise and health are the key components to making our city a true Blue Zone Area. The other day, we were at the grocery store. They have a small restaurant where we had a bite to eat. Karen reached for the salt shaker, but there was only pepper. We looked around, table after table, nope, there was none to be had. I said to Karen, maybe we're in a Blue Zone Area. She said, "what is a Blue Zone Area?" Once I explained, a worker walked by and we were told...yes, it was a Blue Zone Area. They keep the salt at the area where you get your silverware etc. That makes sense, if the salt is on the table, it's easy to grab it and shake it on your food!!! And if you have to get up and walk to the other end of the room, you're more than likely not to use it. smile... Now I'm anxious to see another Blue Zone restaurant and find out if they leave the salt off the table...lol

I'm bummed, my back is still hurting, so we didn't get to the Home and Garden show today. Our day was very sunny, but with the wind it was very chilly! How about you..how was your weather??

A New Recipe

I made these Sunday! They looked so good and easy. I thought they would be yummy for a small something to eat in the evening. They were pretty good.  Here is the recipe if you'd be interested. I also think it would be good if you put the filling in a baking dish and put the biscuits on top and bake it!

Mini Chicken Pot Pies

1 ½ cups cubed cooked chicken
1 (10.75) can condensed cream of chicken soup
½ (16 ounce) package frozen mixed vegetables
All-purpose flour
1 (12 ounce) package refrigerated biscuits
½ cup shredded Cheddar cheese

Directions:

1. Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Spray 10 (2 ½-inch) muffin-pan cups with the cooking spray. Stir the chicken, soup and vegetables in a medium bowl.
2. Sprinkle the flour on the work surface. Roll or pat the biscuits to flatten slightly. Press the biscuits into the bottoms and up the sides of the muffin-pan cups. Spoon about 1/3 cup chicken mixture into each biscuit cup. Lightly press the chicken mixture down so its level. Top each with about 2 teaspoons cheese.
3. Bake for 15 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown and the cheese is melted. Let the pot pies cool in the pan on a wire rack for 5 minutes.

Servings 5

This afternoon while Tom was letting Rusty out, he said 'it's snowing', I said, 'what? Are you on drugs?'...smile.. He said, 'well, its either snow or dandruff'... Well guess what, it wasn't dandruff! However, it actually was just a dusting.  (thank goodness)

I've been having some back issues the last couple days. So, I'm not doing too much, and have been on pain pills. I hope this passes. I'm kind of bummed as there is a Home and Garden Show tomorrow and if my back isn't better we'll have to stay home. sad...

How was your day? Are you having some good or bad weather? As I watch the weather channel, I've seen some very nasty weather going on. They sure need prayers in Oklahoma.

Productive Day

I always think stopping at this stoplight makes a pretty site with the church in the background. The trees in the banks lot and their flag lends some real nice color. (I took this last week..)

I saw this nuthatch on the feeder and I couldn't figure out if he was okay or not. He just never moved..got my camera out, turned it on, and set it up to get a good picture, he still never moved. But when I moved around in the window, he looked up and flew away!!!! Pretty aren't they??

I know this is terrible...how this apartment building burned so bad. Speaking of, our fire department came a calling today to help prevent our home from ending up like this! They were all just wonderful gentlemen. They put new smoke alarms in...AND just before they came, we had a light blub go out over the kitchen sink. sad... When they brought their ladder in, I said..while you have a ladder in here, could I get you to change this light bulb? Of course, they said "yes".  That made me 'smile' today!! They also do a check of your house and tell you if there are any issues or things that need to be changed. However, they were very pleased with our home! Yeah!!

Did you have a good day?? I made a Runza Casserole, which I've made before and have the recipe in my recipe page. It is always so good and makes a lot, so that's what we'll have for lunch again tomorrow. smile..

Have a blessed SONday..

Morning sunrise and recipe

This was the view out our kitchen window yesterday morning.  First of November morning!!! Beautiful isn't it??

And another view.

This is more to the south, amazing how the sun lights up the clouds isn't it??

This is not a very good picture, but I forgot to take one until we had eaten three fourths of it...lol I made it for dinner yesterday, so easy and yummy! The recipe calls for 1/2 pound of hamburger, but I used a full pound. (Tom likes it heartier...smile..) If you'd like this recipe, you can find it linked here or you can click on my 'recipe' page at the top of this page.

I hope you had a blessed day. I spent most of it, looking through about 1,000 pictures trying to find just the right one for our newsletter that I work on. I think I did find one that will work.

Hope you had a wonderful weekend..

Yummy Asparagus Soup

Wow..not sure if it's because of the time change or the fact that we went to WalMart on a Saturday afternoon!!! But by the time we got home unloaded, then ran to pick up Rusty from the groomers...we were so exhausted!  We went to bed an hour early...but we still slept until 8, no 9 a.m. (the new time)! I couldn't believe it when we finally got up! smile...

We had bought some asparagus the other day, so decided to make this Asparagus soup for lunch. It is so good!

I make it a little different, I don't use leeks, instead I use onions. Still tastes nummy! I put the recipe up on my recipe page. It's a  great way to use asparagus...and of course I love mushrooms!

We had an amazing day, the temperature was 71 degrees, breaking a record high of 70! Last Sunday, our high was only 2 degrees. What weird weather we've been having.

Have a great week!
