Shots around the City...

A few weeks ago I spotted the steeple peering through the trees! I thought it was so pretty...made me think "remember to always honor Him"...

The skies were so pretty this day.. I love clouds, they seem to come in all shapes and sizes..lol Then sometimes the sun bounces off of them, turning part of the sky a beautiful gold..

This church had a sky filled with 'ripple' clouds above it!!

This is such a gorgeous building.  Look at the ornate, pretty isn't it? We are so fortunate to have such beautiful old buildings in our city. Their filled with so much history. One of them finally changed their elevator to an automated system. It used to have a person running it everyday. Hummm how things change in time..

Nice shot looking down the street. That is City Hall where the clock is (way at the end of the street). Just another old building.

We had a busy day...a friend stopped by to work on a light in our bathroom (which wasn't working, until he showed up...just like taking your car in the shop, and then it runs perfectly!!) but it was amazing to sit and have a cup tea with him and hear all of his news. We haven't visited with him for quite awhile.

Then we had a little running to do, so ventured out into the heat and got it done!!

How has your weather been, are you being tested with this end of summer heat??

Little of This and That

The other day when we were downtown, I thought this was a pretty site! As I've said before, the building on the left, use to be the tallest building in our city for years!! And I believe everyone saw a doctor of some sorts in that building, mine was a dentist. Anyway, I never noticed how two sides of the building had a white façade on it. Actually, it is gorgeous décor on it.

This street in our area is one of those that is full of potholes! Poor Tom has had to zig and zag around them...lol So, we were surprised and very happy when we saw they were working on it!! smile...

We were driving around one day and Tom said "look at the hearse in those peoples yard."  I turned quick and snapped this picture. And sure enough there it was...lol And it really didn't seem like a place where it should be...lol

This monument is up in that same neighborhood. Guess I should have had Tom stop and take a picture over the bank. It's such a great view, seeing so much! (Maybe next time.)

When we went down the hill, I saw (not the house) but that 'brand new' front door! Look at how gorgeous it is. I haven't figured that one out...except they must be remodeling, (as I see new siding around that pretty door!) Can't you just imagine this house back in the day when it was built? This was one of the first houses built, I'm sure. They liked having homes on this hill, so they could see the river below. And watch the riverboats coming into port.

How has your day been? Ours was very nice, the temperatures were in the 70's and is to be the same tomorrow. My back still isn't perfect, but gradually is feeling a little better each day. I think the stretching and exercising is helping.

Blessed Friday the 13th

Today my friend Diana came by to cut and fix my hair (got to look pretty this weekend....smile..) Well, a long..long time ago I was telling her about Susan Branch's giveaway (which by the way she has an amazing giveaway going on right now..)of a wooden recipe box, and how I'd love to win it. She said I have one somewhere around the house that I'll give you! Big smile..

You talk about excitement...that is what I felt! Today, she brought it up to me. Look at it...isn't it beautiful?? And filled with lots of old recipes by different people. It is so fun to go through!!!

She found it at a antique store years ago and used it as an accessory in her kitchen. You know what I'll be doing..reading recipes and maybe trying a few of them!! When we do...I will share!!

I took this picture today when we were going through downtown! Doesn't the mirrored building look funny?? Like it only has one side!! ha..with a reflection of another building!!

Time for bed...sure hope you had a blessed Friday the 13th too..

Old Buildings....

Remember, I told you I'd share these pictures of the buildings we spotted when we made our trip to South Dakota last week?? First, I thought this was a beautiful one!!! It's The First Baptist Church...

We then went into the town of Volin, SD..where Tom's great Grandparents lived and raised their family.

This is their Town Hall...smile... Old, but kind of pretty....as it's painted silver and blue.

This is the old school house. Isn't it ever so cool?? I wish we could have gone inside it to see what it looked like.

Tom remembers the Volin Bank, which was up the street from his Great Grandmothers house. I believe someone must be either living in it, or has decorated it as a museum piece. smile... (Look at all the wood piled up along side the building...and the blue door!!

Today, we were both very tired, I'm assuming from all our travels last week...tomorrow I will tell you how God played a role in our Saturday...smile... Blessings and I hope you had a wonderful SONday!
