Snow Storm Warning

Well, I know I've been among the missing for quite awhile. And I wonder sometimes, where do I start again?? So I figured I'd start with today and go backwards for a post or two so you could catch up on what's been going on!

Today: I wanted to say something 'smart' or 'sassy' about our Snow Storm Warning...but I really am thankful that we ended up on the edge of it and so far only got about 4" of snow. (They were predicting 8-12 or maybe even 14" of snow). There have been a few towns north of us who actually have gotten 8" so far. I'm sorry for them, but thankful for me!

Yesterday, I went to the doctor for my 6 month cholesterol check, and while I was there I mentioned how my ears and head hurt. And that I had woke up coughing that morning. He swabbed for strep throat, and thankful I didn't have it! But my throat was a little red so, with all the other things going on, he prescribed some antibiotics for 4 days. Well, last night was a bad one. My nose ran all night, I woke up with the chills, and  could hardly get out of bed this morning. (I'm so glad he started me on those antibiotics!!) Then I found out my great granddaughter was diagnosed with Influenza A, so I called my doctor and told them. They prescribed another pill to go along with the antibiotics!!. I should be a new woman when I get over this..hee hee

My Great was here Saturday to help me celebrate my birthday!! What a  wonderful day that was! My son came over, early in the morning and did lots of "mommy do's". Rusty had left quite a pile of 'do-do' in the yard, so he cleaned that all up. And fixed my bird feeder...so now I have lots of birds back out in my yard!!! (So exciting) Then my daughter in love, came with the two great granddaughters, carrying a beautiful bouquet of flowers!! (smile) Soon, my granddaughter, the mommy to the twin girls came. As you can see in the picture they are all just adorable!! Instead of cake she brought cookies! (If you know me, you know I LOVE cookies..) I think I should have been casted as the cookie monster!! These were so pretty....butterflies...I hated to bite into them.. But I finally gave in..ha ha!!

Winter is Here

This is what we woke up to the other day. And it lasted a few days. The wind blew some of snow off the branches...but today the trees still look like there is frosting on them..smile..

 

Last night at 6 o'clock, the temperature was 2 degrees, with wind chills of -18 below. Ugggg... And the wind chills in the night were -30 some below. My poor Rusty, it's been so cold and the ground is covered with ice and snow, I don't know how he (or other animals) can stand to go out and do their job! One things for sure he doesn't go out as often as he did in the other seasons.

Today, I had to stay home again. My hip (sciatica nerve) has been causing me lots of issues lately. I really hate it when I can't go over and see Tom. And I know he misses me too. My uncle's prayer service was tonight and had to miss that also.

Since my last blog, I've fought for Tom, enjoyed special times with him, been sick and was in the ER. Had wonderful friends help me in many different ways, including taking Rusty to finally get groomed. My son picked him up and brought him home. He's been such a big help to me. I've finally got some new lenses for my glasses, (which help when I have to drive at night-which I really hate to do..) Again, my son took me to get them also.

Now, something fun!! I got word from Gooseberry Patch that I will be getting their new cookbook "Christmas Comfort Classics"  this June for an article I submitted "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer".  Actually, I had forgotten about submitting it. So, yes that was a welcomed surprise!!

What do you think about the Powerball lottery?? We always play it, so we already had out ticket. But can you imagine?? A BILLION dollars?? Unbelievable.......... There was a time when we never even used that word in conversation....a MILLION was the biggest money we ever talked about!!

I hope you are all doing well and staying warm and dry. This has really been an unusual winter so far...and it seems to have effected the whole country differently. I pray you are all well and happy.

Happy Fathers Day!

Today, of course is 'Father's day'! This is my way of paying tribute to my father! I loved him so much, I would follow him around, no matter whether he was working with the animals, riding on the tractor, out in the field, or in the garage fixing anything that needed repair! smile.. Or of course going to church with him on Sunday! He now is and has been for years in the hands of our Lord. (At his funeral, I remember his brother saying, if anyone goes to heaven, it will be Jack!)

 

My son, is the father of three children! I'm so proud of him, he is such an amazing father and grandfather!

And then, of course, my Tom, here he is with his adopted son and his son! He was such a good father to them. He also adopted another step son. He's such a good man. Plus he was the father figure to his sister. He pretty much helped raise her.

 

I am so thankful to know all of these wonderful amazing fathers!

The Good Son

And here is the original one! It was an amazingly warm day. We are so lucky to have such nice weather, during this time of the year.

 

 

Yesterday, my son came by and carried our softener salt down to the basement. (sweet!) And while he was here I had him change some light bulbs. He is such a good son...

 

I hope your day has been nice. We had a lovely one! The house is finally cooling down tonight. The wind laid down and it got pretty warm. And tomorrow they are talking about getting in the 80's, then a cold front will be moving through, dropping our temperatures 30 some degrees. BUT that is still okay, as it is March in Iowa.

 

We made clam chowder for lunch. It was very good. I forgot to take a picture, maybe tomorrow. And I'll put up the recipe. We've used it before. This is one of Karen's favorites. I like it, but love oyster stew better. Do you like either one of these soups/stews? If so which is your favorite??

Trust...

His truck he is driving.

Just recently my son was without a job, and I kept praying he'd get another one that would be good and he'd like it. "I" kept looking back (which you shouldn't do...as a new door will open), time went by with nothing, money was getting tight, he was getting depressed...(even though his wife was so supportive!) I kept praying and voila! He applied for a job, and it just happened, he was at the right place at the right time (God's time!)° He now has a wonderful job, and making good money! We must Trust!

 

Today, I was doing some work on the computer and came across a recording I made of a church service, where our friend who recently passed, conducted the service. Tom came in and said, why are you crying? It was just so moving to hear him preach the word, sing the songs and crack the jokes. I am so glad I recorded that. (it was at one of our South Bottoms Reunions..) so there were lots of others who were on the recording who have gone on to be with the Lord also...

 

Our weather has been lovely today, but very, very windy. Tonight we're suppose to get rain (which we desperately need.) As well as the next few days...hopefully we'll get some in time. smile..
