Happy Veterans Day

Remember yesterday, how I mentioned my son and daughter in love headed out early in the morning ? Well...here is where they were going! Their granddaughter, Lorelai's school was putting on a program for the Veterans! The children from both schools in town were in attendance. The High School band played the songs for all of the different branches of military. The veterans that came, sat up front. The kindergarteners made cards for them, and came around to hand them out to everyone. Well, when Lorelai saw her Meme ( she didn't know she'd be there.) she ran over and gave her a BIG hug...and didn't want to leave her...lol (To heck with school, I want to stay with my Meme!!)  But...eventually she had to go back to her class! 

I too would love to honor my daughter-in-love for her many years of service to this country! She is an amazing woman! I could not be prouder, then I am of her! Thank you Vicky for your service!!

I had an uncle who was in the Navy during WW 2. I found some letters the other day he and his wife wrote to his mother. I want to share one in particular, I know you will find it very interesting. This is a quote from a letter, his wife Berneice wrote. December 6, 1943 "I'm in Oxnard, CA, population about 3,000. I'm waiting for Paul to come in, possibly today or tomorrow. There are about 300,000 wives here, walking the streets trying to find a place to stay. They even go knock on people's doors just to get to stay overnight. Wives even stay in people's pantries on a cot. 10 wives were staying on army cots in one room where I went. I'm staying at a hotel right now, $3 a day. This war has aged Paul about 5 or 10 years already and it has aged me 5 years also, living in places like this." (*I noticed the postage was 3 cents..regular mail and 6 cents for air-mail!! ) Just think of all our veterans and their families go through every day.. 

My prayers are with them...and my thanks are for all those who serve and have served.

Time to Honor---Time to Pray

LORD, as we honor all the brave men and women who have served our country, we think of those who are no longer with us. We pray that their families, whose sacrifice was so great, would know the depth of our gratitude and find comfort in you. For the veterans still with us, Lord, we pray for your hand of blessing and provision to be upon them. We ask for healing of their memories too painful to speak and that your love would be real in their lives. May your divine protection be upon our active troops and your wisdom be with those in authority over them to make decisions according to your perfect will. In Jesus' Name we pray, amen.

Yesterday, was lovely...with nice temperatures! Soon our afternoon skies turned to looking like this. Later, the night skies fell dark, and soon I saw lightening streaking across the skies... There was thunder and rain...lots of rain... Something, we haven't seen, heard or smelled for a long..long... time... smile.... I think we ended up with almost an inch of much needed rain.

When we woke this morning..our temperatures were really cold, for us. And as you can see the leaves are all gone from our trees. As much as I hate to say it, I think *winter* is on it's way... sad...

I looked out the door mid morning and saw these deer resting in our neighbors yard. Finally they both laid down, one facing toward our house, the other facing the opposite direction. Isn't it amazing how animals just know how to protect themselves?? Instinct I guess.. (This is a God thing isn't it??)

Thought I'd share with you, how busy we've been! Yesterday, even though it was a nice day, Tom made chili (it was so good!) and I baked a cake. Today he made Mushroom Orzo soup... (it was really good too...). Do you ever use orzo?? I love it so much more than rice. After lunch we made some banana bread!!! Our house smelled so good!!! Did you have a good SONday?? I hope it was restful and enjoyable...

Never Forget...

Today we went out to get our pickup, while at the stop light I saw these folks raising a flag in memory....

While waiting for Tom...I spotted this 'heart in the sky'...as the sun was trying to break through the clouds...

As promised...here are some of our decorations...Rusty was checking it out. He wasn't sure he liked the idea of a tree being in front of 'his' window!! smile....

Here are some of the ornaments that decorate our tree...Tom's building, actually is a "dance pavilion" that he helped to build (as an iron worker!) Brenda's, was her first ornament she made in kindergarten. From a friend-my friend Diana had a tree ornamented with these little mittens, so she made one just for me...sweet! On a pkg from Irene...friend Irene who passed away this year, always decorated her packages so beautifully...this was an ornament from one of those lovely packages. Randy's..it was his first ornament he made in kindergarten. Ashley 1st grandchild...that ornament was given to us when we first became grandparents. Dad..showing my dad. Mom..showing my Mom. Went to visit school today. The kids liked my hair, dress, shoes and Betty said I had a pretty form. Nina, "Bud", Mary, Madeline, Beulah, and Bonnie went to Hornick to "Little Eight Tournament."
