Weekend

I hope you had a nice weekend. Mine was just lovely. My granddaughter Lacey and great granddaughter Maggie came to visit Saturday. What fun that was!!! They had been school shopping and Maggie had to show off her new unicorn sweatshirt. Isn’t it adorable?? We had lunch, then Maggie had a friend ask is she could come over to play. So they headed back home.

My friend Mary called Sunday and we decided to go out for coffee. This little coffee shop had quite a menu. Mary had a roast going for supper, so she decided to have donuts with her coffee and I had a chicken wrap with mine. This is the inside .... the tables had coffee cup table clothes on them with a glass top. I told the owner I knew her sister who had the quilt shop in town. (That was probably where they came from.) Then I asked about her Mom. She said she had passed awhile back. I was sorry to hear that, I explained I knew her from the Red Hat’s. She was a nice lady. I still have a wooden doll she had painted for me. It is in my office😊

Of course here she is... playing ‘peek a boo’ with me !! Ha Ha She is now ready for bed...hope you have a blessed day tomorrow!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY DARLING SON

Yes, today is my son's birthday! And here he is eating his cake! Guess, I need to eat crow as they say! ha ha I told you, about Brenda's cake, how the kids back in the day didn't dig into their cakes like they do today..but...whoops...look...that's exactly what he was doing!! I noticed I only had him in his diaper, maybe I was preparing for the mess...or of course it might have been the Texas heat. A lot of his pictures he only had a diaper on!!!

Since his sister arrived three years later, but one day ahead of his big day...they got to share most of their birthdays every year.

Then after he was married, his daughter Wendy had a birthday on the same day as his!!

Of course I have to share a photo of him and me a couple years ago.

Here he is getting married to this beautiful, wonderful lady, that we all fell in love with. He is so blessed to have her to share his life with!!

And here are his children and grandchildren. He is a super dad and loves, loves. loves those grand-babies, as they do him. I'm so proud of him...God has blessed me with a wonderful son. When he's in town I always seem to have a list of "mommy-do's". smile..

Randy...I'll love you forever... Happy Birthday!!

"Happy First Day of Spring'

Finally got a picture of a robin. I've been hearing them singing their little hearts out, but could never spot them.. Then once I did, I couldn't get a picture of them.. However, last Friday we woke to an icy world. You might think this poor robin was froze to the tree, but trust me..it flew off right after I took this photo!!

I have been so...so busy, after my basement flooded it was madding around here. Workers were here cleaning up, removing the carpet, running commercial fans and dehumidifiers for a week!!! After those were removed, I had them clean the basement. (Which they did an amazing job doing.) My daughter and granddaughter were due to come for 10 days on the 9th of this month. So, I wanted the basement re-carpet-ed (new word...meaning put down new carpet! LOL) I finally decided on one (which I love).  To do this, my chair lift had to be removed and put back on. Since it was over 15 years old, I choose to put a new one in at this time. The new ones have a battery backup, which is very comforting to know. This way it will take me up or down even if the electricity is off.

While they were here, we went down and visited their aunt Lela and uncle Bob. This was St. Patrick's Day and Bob's 86th birthday!! Lela will catch up with him and a couple weeks!! They are such lovely people, and we always enjoy our time with them.

Here they are with me. It was a fun day, she had made supper (as we call it - do you still use this term or do you use dinner for the evening meal??) She had made loosemeats, baked beans and a macaroni salad. And poke cake for dessert!!

I have much more to share, but here we all are when they left Sunday. My son and his wife took them to the airport on their way home. The house is so quiet...my granddaughter and I had some silly belly laughs and my tummy muscles are so sore...but it's the best kind of sore I know of!! It's been a long time since I've laughed that much. I told her I want her to fly home once a month...LOL But we'll do the next best thing...we'll Facetime!!

How has your weather been? We woke to a dusting of snow this morning. Glad that was all we got. I finally (in the mix) finished the newsletter and got all of them mailed off today!! It is now time to focus on our upcoming MS Walk. Calls need to be made and letters need to go out!!! My other granddaughter and her husband will be here for that. It will be sooooo much fun..having them here!!

Bye for now..

What a Wonderful Thanksgiving Day

~Maggie Sue and Grandma Gert~
Wow! Can you believe Thanksgiving is over a
week behind us??  I know, everyone says..."time is just flying by!" And I have to totally agree.

My Thanksgiving was amazing!  My son and his wife Vicky spent a couple nights with me. (which I absolutely love!) We went for a little drive before we went to Vicky's mom's for dinner. I made a salad and had gotten a Perkins apple pie. (my neighbor girl was selling them as a fundraiser for her school.) Sue had the full Thanksgiving dinner, turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, green bean casserole...etc..etc..etc.. Way too much food-as always!! ha!  The weather was so...so nice. We even hit a *record high of 63 degrees. Speaking of highs...I was on one. Having all those great grandbabies around...that was just too delightful!

~Here is Miss Lorelai...she's growing up way to fast...~

~And here is Meme..playing cards with all of them.~

~The twins Ivy and Eden..stepping away from the game to poise for a picture for me!! Aren't they just the cutest???~

Later in the afternoon, my son and I watched a little football, rounding out the day.

It was such a nice day...and it just reiterated how much I have to be thankful for!!

I hope your Thanksgiving was good and that you were able to share it with friends and loved ones! Oh yes, and that you 'over ate' and were stuffed!!!

Bye for now...

Happy Veterans Day

Remember yesterday, how I mentioned my son and daughter in love headed out early in the morning ? Well...here is where they were going! Their granddaughter, Lorelai's school was putting on a program for the Veterans! The children from both schools in town were in attendance. The High School band played the songs for all of the different branches of military. The veterans that came, sat up front. The kindergarteners made cards for them, and came around to hand them out to everyone. Well, when Lorelai saw her Meme ( she didn't know she'd be there.) she ran over and gave her a BIG hug...and didn't want to leave her...lol (To heck with school, I want to stay with my Meme!!)  But...eventually she had to go back to her class!

I too would love to honor my daughter-in-love for her many years of service to this country! She is an amazing woman! I could not be prouder, then I am of her! Thank you Vicky for your service!!

I had an uncle who was in the Navy during WW 2. I found some letters the other day he and his wife wrote to his mother. I want to share one in particular, I know you will find it very interesting. This is a quote from a letter, his wife Berneice wrote. December 6, 1943 "I'm in Oxnard, CA, population about 3,000. I'm waiting for Paul to come in, possibly today or tomorrow. There are about 300,000 wives here, walking the streets trying to find a place to stay. They even go knock on people's doors just to get to stay overnight. Wives even stay in people's pantries on a cot. 10 wives were staying on army cots in one room where I went. I'm staying at a hotel right now, $3 a day. This war has aged Paul about 5 or 10 years already and it has aged me 5 years also, living in places like this." (*I noticed the postage was 3 cents..regular mail and 6 cents for air-mail!! ) Just think of all our veterans and their families go through every day..

My prayers are with them...and my thanks are for all those who serve and have served.

Blessings and goodnight...

What an emotional Day

My morning started with Brenda enjoying a cup of coffee with me. I was really savoring this moment. We were blessed to be able to do this for five mornings. Drinking our coffee, discussing the news that had happened over night, and planning our day. But today was bittersweet as I knew by evening I would really be missing her. She was heading back home to her family. I know her husband and children were really missing her and glad to have her back with them.

My son, Randy and his wife Vicky, came over. Vicky took Brenda to the airport, while Randy stayed with me. It was nice to have him here. He watched TV for awhile, then slept for a bit. My heart just breaks knowing what he is going through. But he is so-so blessed to have such an amazing wife. Vicky is his rock right now.

We had gone all week with out taking pictures of us together!! So we did a little 'selfie' last night..smile... We did a few things this week. Wednesday we stopped at the Farmers Market. It was the first time this year that I have been able to go! We saw some friends (vendors) that Tom and I have grown to know over the last several years. It's always good to see and visit with them. I bought some 'grass fed hamburger', it always tastes so much better than store bought!!

Last Sunday, I had a visitor...little Miss Maggie Sue.. She hasn't changed too much, just gotten a little bigger. But look at that unchanging sweet smile.. smile She is adorable...

Thank you for taking the time to stop by and for all your good thoughts and prayers.

Blessings and good night!!

Prayers Please...

My sweet son was burnt yesterday at his job. They are chemical burns, and was transported to a burn center south of here. Whether you pray to God or just send up good thoughts, we would really appreciate them.

He is such an amazing young man, a good husband, dad and especially grandfather or Papa as they call him. He loves his music and pray this doesn't effect that part of his life too much.

And then there is this amazing, beautiful lady... She drove 3 1/2 or 4 hours to get to him yesterday. (tear) Randy (and all of us) are so blessed to have her in our lives. I can't even imagine how hard this is on her too. She just told me, Randy rested well last night, got a shower this morning  and they taught her how to apply creams and bandages on his wounds. They should be home this afternoon. (Praise be to God our Father...)

I was not able to get this up last night, but there was an outpouring of love and prayers for him on Face Book yesterday evening... Now he still needs prayers for comfort and healing.

Blessings to you and yours and thank you for being here for me...

Lorelai's First Dance Recital

Look at our sweet little Lorelai after her first dance recital last Friday! She is one proud and happy little girl!!

Here she is practicing before the recital. (They did not allow cameras or any picture taking during the performance!)

Look at this isn't she just adorable?? Her pretty hair and loving all those flowers!!

And sharing the day with her cousins, Ivy an Eden!!

And here she is with her proud Mommy!!!

And proud Meme!!

These two photos speak for themselves...smile... If little Maggie wasn't going to look at the camera, Lorelai was there to help hold her head up.....smile.........  I said, there are times when I could use Lorelai to hold my tired head up!!!!!!!!!!!! ha...ha!!

I have a busy day ahead, but just wanted to share these pictures with you. (By the way, I could have went to the recital, but had some other things going on that day, and was afraid I would be too tired out . sad...) The joys of living with MS...

Blessings to your day!!!!!!!!!

Sites Around South Dakota

Last Saturday we went to the cemetery to visit Tom's grave sad... It was hard, but to me his spirit is here not there, and I think of and feel him everyday.. My son and daughter in love took me.

So, with Randy driving here are some of the sites we saw and I was able to photograph. Look at this old church with the Merry Go Round. Doesn't it almost feel like you could step back in time??

From old looking homesteads...

Heading into a town...always love water towers... (which reminds me I have a blog I want to do on them..)

Isn't this a pretty farm place?? I always love the red paint on the buildings..

Ha! Ha! When I saw this from afar... it kind of looked like a bull with big..big horns!!!

Another pretty site... But there was so much water standing, I fear getting their crops in this year will be a challenge.

I know it's hard to see, but this whole fence line in front of thier home was covered with yellow iris or tulips. Gorgeous site...

How was your day? Mine was busy...busy...busy..., so that is good. Time flys when I have lots to do...

Happy Mother's Day

Today being Mother's Day I just had to share a picture of my mother Grace.  Here she is, celebrating her 44th birthday with friends and family. Sitting at her table in her kitchen. There were many memories made in this kitchen over the years. And they all circled around this fabulous woman!! I wish I could have been half the person she was!! She always had a smile on her face and love in her heart. She was a loving wife, a hard worker, wonderful cook....should I go on?? She had many challenges over the years and faced each one with acceptance and action!!

I remember the days when "Queen for a Day" was on TV back in the late 50's and early 60's. We always would think of the things that she would ask for is she were one of the contestants! (Silently, I wished she could have been one and would win!!)

For all of you Mothers, Aunts, Friends and those who care for children (and fur babies), I hope you had an amazing day!! Our weather was nice, my son and dil came by. They brought me a plant for outside...Randy admitted that all the credit should go to Vicky!!! Bless her heart.. Good night..

Quick Note

I know this is a terrible picture, but I took it via Instagram. Sorry, I haven't been on the blog for a few days. But between my hip (killing me) and Tom's heart meds causing problems, I just haven't felt up to posting. sorry...

Yesterday Tom was very lethargic, short of breath and just couldn't do anything. We were going to our DIL's retirement of 30 years in the Air National Guard program, when Tom got very weak. He slept most of the day. We felt so bad not being able to go. sad... Then this morning, it was the same, I called his heart doctor and the doctor on call, said since he was short of breath and fatigued etc., I could bring him to the hospital of call 911 and have them assess him and take him to the hospital if necessary. Well, that is what we did and they chose to take him to the hospital to be checked out. My son had to come over and take me with our van up there. (bless him) Anyway, his heart rate was very high, so they put him on another heart medication, which brought the rate down and they sent him home. He slept most of day also. I will call his doctor in the morning and we'll see what he has to say.

I will try to keep you updated on him.

Memorial Day Speech

This morning my daughter in love gave a memorial speech at two local cemeteries. This one was in my hometown, at the cemetery where my family is buried. I am so proud of Vicky for doing this. I know the speech was very moving and am sure it was difficult getting through it! Her father who served in the military was buried there too, so had a special meaning to it.

I hope your day was special as you reflected on those who serve and have served our country, and those who have given their lives so we can live in a free country.

Mother's Day 2014

Look what my son and daughter in love brought me today for Mother's day! Sweet, little Lorelai!!
That is the best gift anyone could give me!! She is growing so fast and is so smart!!

Here she is showing her grandpa the game she was playing!!

And her grandma Vicky...

Playing with her grandpa Randy.

Look how smart she is! Showing all us including me how to play this game!!.smile.. What a shot of love I got today!!!

Did you have a nice SONday? I sure hope so and that your weather was as nice as ours was. But tonight, the lightning and rain may be a problem. Pray for us that this weather won't be too severe.

Alabama Bound...and more....

Look at our little Lorelai....her and her sweet Mommy and Grandma and Grandpa headed out to Alabama yesterday to attend her Great Cousin Ashley's wedding!! smile... Her Grandpa told me today that she was a great traveler! Yeah!! I will share more about this wedding as it happens. I know Ashley (bride) is getting so excited, and is really happy about it all! She made some "welcome" bags for the out of town guests (so thoughtful) and one of the items was the 'pink boa' for Lorelai...ha..ha.. I said "gosh..her and I would really have fun with our boa's...smile..." (Her's being pink (for the girls under 50) and mine being Red!)

Of course you all know I would have loved to have been with them, but we get to Facetime the wedding Friday...yeah! I told Tom we have to dress up, just in case they see us...ha..ha... No one would like to be at a wedding in their sweats...smile...

Yesterday, I got a phone call from a gentleman who was at the South Bottoms Reunion, and entertained our guests with his singing. We weren't able to attend this year due to some of my health issues and he just wanted to let me know he was thinking about me and Tom, and said he'd prayed for us daily after he found out I had MS and saw Tom helping me. sweet Now isn't that just so nice??

Then, Tom brought in a package for me...and of course I was so excited (who doesn't just love getting a package??) I won these from my new friend over at "Home is Where the Boat Is"! Her blog is amazing...if you ever need an idea on how to decorate or want to see a garden shed to die for, her blog is the place you want to go to...smile...

This morning I read the word and it mentioned how we sometimes have pain and have to go forward through the pain and yet God gives us little pleasures to help us get through these painful times. How true this is...just as an example look at yesterdays little pleasures!!!

I hope you are all doing well and enjoying the last days of spring before summer sets in....smile... (of course this isn't true for my friend down under...as she is going into a different season...brrr...)

more as it happens here in the city............
