Happy Pre Thanksgiving

My grandson came by one day and put some feeders out my office window!!! What a wonderful surprise. He is so thoughtful. Guess who found them, ha! How brave he was-he looked right at me!!!

Here it is (before my friend Krystal moved the screen up!) Oh yes, and she washed the window too... as you can tell by the previous picture!!! I did see some chick-a-dee’s & nut hatches at the feeder yesterday. But they are flighty- they zip in and back out before I can get a picture! Ha!!

Speaking of squirrels- I saw 5 of them on the back patio tonight. I did notice a couple of them were small, must have been babies. There isn’t much to eat as we don’t put much on the ground, due to the deer☹️

I did spot them the other morning in the neighbors yard. But I think they still stop by to see if I’ve put anything out for them-to no avail.

We had turtle doves all summer, but haven’t seen any for a long time. Not sure what they do in the winter. Do you know???

Well, I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving, filled with love and gratitude!! We all have something to be thankful for....wheather it’s as simple as the roof over our heads to as big as our family. And remember Gods grace and love.

Blessings to you all.

Bye for now.

What To Do

A couple weeks ago after Bible Study, the ladies were excited to see the mama dear and her twins, a boy and a girl, outside on our patio. They were eating the birdseed I had out there.

The next morning, when I looked out the window I saw the yard was all tore up! Apparently it was the deer fighting, digging into the yard with their hoofes. I think they call it  roofing I’m not sure it’s the male deer, I guess. That time of the year so they say. Ugggg

The night before, my neighbor girl caught this picture of them laying out there in the same spot actually. They have become so domesticated that they don’t fear people anymore. It’s cute but dangerous too as they are still wild animals.

So, I made decision not to put birdseed out on the patio anymore. We do have plenty of hanging feeder’s for the birds, but a lot of the ground feeders really enjoyed the seed that was on the ground out there for them and, the squirrels and rabbits liked it too. But, I can’t allow them to come and dig up my yard like that.  This week when we had Bible study, one of the ladies said she didn’t care if they dug up her yard as she was still going to feed them no matter what. So I’m thinking, did I do the right thing? Or should I continue to feed them? But in the back of my mind I can just hear Tom saying “don’t feed them”!! We can’t have that yard all tore up. So I guess my question is to all of you is, would you keep feeding them so they keep coming around? Or would you just stop putting feed out on the ground where they could get to it?

How is your weather? Ours has been rainy and cool for the past couple days. We woke up to this, this morning. Not a good day to get out. The next couple of days we’re supposed to get up to like 3 inches I believe of rain. It’s not good for the farmers and they’re trying to get their crops out. But I’m hoping the rain will come to an end and it’ll dry up so that they can get in the fields. I hope none of you are in the latest hurricane that will be coming on to shore along the Florida coast line. Let’s all send good thoughts and/or prayers for them.

Bye for now ...

A Special Wildlife Visitor

I just have to share this with you. In the middle of July, my friend was looking out the window and she was so excited. The deer was laying down by my shed. She said, "I think she's pregnant".. maybe she'll have it down there. As it was kind of hidden from the street.

Then a few weeks later, I noticed her up on my patio eating some of the bird food. Then when I took this picture, I noticed that she had been nursing. I told my friend, "I think she does have a baby, by the look of her"!

And yes, look at her baby fawn!! How precious...huh?? Precious and hungry..

After eating a little grass and getting a drink from the bird bath, she decided to join Mom..

And they ate 99% of the bird feed we had out there.

Sweet... but they are wild.. and seem to be hungry. I also noticed they had been laying in some grass with those sticky tops. I remember getting them stuck on my socks and pants years ago and never being able to get them off. So, I hope the deer have a better luck. ha!

Our weather has been so HOT. But most evenings, I have been able to sit out on the porch. Tonight, my little neighbor boy came over and we had a nice visit.. He's about ready to head back to school.

I'm hoping I'll get some photos tomorrow of my son and his band when they play at the Iowa State Fair. smile...

more as it happens..

Merry Christmas Eve

Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even the Thanksgiving day mouse! The stockings weren't hung by the fireplace with care, knowing Saint Nicholas wouldn't be there.

With Rusty all nestled and snuggled in his bed, with visions of Milk Bones dancing through his head. And I in my jammies and  pink night cap, had settled in for a long winters nap.

When out on the lawn, I head such a clatter, I sprang (ahem!) from my bed to see what was the matter. I ran (ahem!) to the window, threw open the curtains and what to my wondering eyes should a appear, but a gang of turkeys and a family of deer!

They looked, they wondered, they knew not what they'd find. Some corn, some bread, some seed? Oh, that would be a wonderful Christmas feast, indeed!!

"MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL
AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT!!!"

Yes, I'm Still Here

Of course this will be a short post... But I felt I needed to put something up, so you'd know I was okay, just extremely busy right now. My life continues to change and not always for the good. As my last post told you, my daughter and her husband and my granddaughter were here the week of Thanksgiving. Now that was a blessing in itself. They took this picture out the window, I believe the day they were about to leave.  I was surprised to see all the deer. They had not been out in the open during the day for a long time. Of a night...yes, but not so much during the day. They were probably looking for some Thanksgiving day leftovers. Good thing they didn't get in our fridge or they might have found lots of them....smile...

The kids made it home safe, BUT about a week ago, my daughter was going shopping at Kohl's late one afternoon, she miss stepped and fell and broke her nose..sad... This week they put a cast on it, which went well. But today, she had to have shoulder surgery. Thank God she didn't have to have router cuff surgery, but they did a debridement and took some bone spurs out. So...any good thoughts and or prayers would be greatly appreciated, for comfort and fast healing for her.

We have Hospice coming almost every day for my sister in law. They are wonderful people and are truly helping her through this difficult time. And me as well.  Again, I'm asking for prayers for her..

Our nice weather that we were experiencing this fall has come to an end and we have been having some very cold weather with wind chills one morning of 10 below zero...brrrr Rusty does not loiter around out there to much...lol He did get to go to the groomer yesterday and now looks absolutely adorable...or should I say handsome??? smile.. I will share a picture with you soon!

I do try to get to your blogs, and read them, I just don't always leave a comment. Time just seems to fly by...and I know it's because I have slowed way down.. smile.. time doesn't change....we do! The joys of getting older, I guess.

Are you ready for Christmas?? I'm still working on it.. One of these days real soon it will be here, huh??

Blessings to you all and thank you for being so patient with me and I hope to blog more as time goes by.

Look...Look...

Yesterday, as I was getting ready to go to the doctor, my neighbor called and said "look out your door, there are deer in our neighbor (across the street's) yard! Her and I, both could hear Rusty just barking his sweet little head off!! This is really unusual, normally their out of a night, after dark, not during the day. She said they must really be  hungry.

This one was really brave. It must have been the one who was the hungriest!! So my neighbor K. took some bread and threw it out in her yard.

So over it came across the street and ate the it...then they ran off as quickly as they appeared!!

I had been calling my doctors office to see if they had gotten the 'high dose' flu shot in, every day!! And every day..they'd say, "nope...not yet. Call back tomorrow.." So of course I did..smile.. " They said they'll go quick once we get them in!! I said, can't you put my name down for one?? Naturally, they said "no"...lol But I tried!!! Anyway, yesterday, they said "yes".. So I made my appointment right away! Randy came over and took me. It was so sweet, when we were getting in the van to come home, a lady in the next car said to him, "you're really a good son, helping your mother." smile.. He said, "well she helped me for many years". smile...  When he got in the van, he asked me if I knew her and I said "no". Just did our hearts good, to see someone appreciate him for his love and care for me!

Well, I'm a little sore today, which for me was expected. Seems whenever I get a shot, I'm always that way. Now Tom, they never seemed to bother him.. As a human race, I guess we're all the same and yet we're all different.

Have you had you're flu shot this year??? Time for bed...hope you're all well....

Go-Go-Go!!

We headed off this morning to run some errands, we thought we'd get going early (wrong!) as it was to be a 'hot' one today.

Here is our front porch...with all the pretty flowers. I thought you'd like to see the horse shoe sign our granddaughter and her better half made for us one Christmas! Isn't it just so unique?? We love it!!

I spotted these roses outside the restaurant we ate at today. Who doesn't love seeing all these flowers blooming this spring!!

We had to get Rusty some pills, and since my camera quit working this weekend (sad) I had to get another one today. You know I can't live without a camera, its such a passion for me. smile... On the way out there all I could think about was, gosh I hope I don't see a once in a life time shot...ha..ha.. And thank goodness I didn't!!

We spotted one of these trees today, and I think it's the same one that Susie over at She Junks did a post on. Tom said it was what we call a 'cigar tree', but Susie said it was a Catalpa Tree. And the blossoms look like popcorn..and that is what these look like too. Check out her blog.

When we were just about home, I spotted this deer in someone's yard (behind a fence), he was big and eating these peoples plants and flowers. (sad) So Tom kept honking trying to get it to leave those pretty plants. But as we drove away he was chopping away on the plants!!!

It was "hot" today, actually it was 88 degrees, but tomorrow it will be pushing onwards up to 100 degrees. Now that is way too hot for June. What is your weather like??

Good night everyone.

My Christmas Card Check List

"If you are lucky enough to receive a homemade card, take a moment to consider the time and joy that went into it. With every small detail they were thinking of you and how this card would make you smile! That's why homemade cards need pride of place on your mantel!" And that is exactly where this beautiful card is! A dear friend, Betty, from Australia sent us this card  she made. Isn't it gorgeous?

Well, I didn't make my cards this year...sad... I wish I would take the time and do this also. I know our friends would appreciate them more than the ones they will be getting.. So, here's my check list trying to get my 'non-made' cards out!!!

1. Get cards! Check...
2. Get Christmas stamps! Check...
3. Order Christmas return labels! Check...
4. Write Christmas letter! Check...
5. Print address labels! Check...
5. Get a Christmas picture of Rusty! Check...

Well, first I had the cards, the stamps arrived in the mail. Then I kept waiting for the cute Cardinal return labels, and finally I got them!!! Friday, Rusty went to the groomer and got his Christmas picture taken! Last night, after printing my address labels, I got all of the 50 cards, addressed, stamped along with the return label done!!!! Today, I finished the Christmas letter. Now I must sign and put the letter in them, sign, seal and mail them. I'm sure some people won't get them before Christmas...sad... How about you, do you send cards? And do you start early?? Time just got away from me 'again' this year..

When we came home yesterday, I spotted this sweet deer, standing in one of the neighbors yard. He stood still for awhile, then got nervous and moved to a different area of the yard. (Look at those little deer statues behind him...do you think he thought they were babies???LOL)

How is your Christmas preparations coming along? I still must do a few things, but I know I will get them finished in time. smile....  Tomorrow is the first day of winter and will be the shortest day of the year, but then....the days will start to get longer!! Yeah!!

Deer? Snow? Oh ya...

Tom spotted this deer walking across our backyard this morning. Look at that set of antlers he has on him! Actually, early this morning (like 3:30 we got up, well you know why) and the deer were in the neighbors yard...eating her pumpkins (I'm assuming..lol) So, maybe he came back for more. ha!

Tom was trying to get more photos, so he went outside to catch another glimpse of him. But he was on a mission to leave us..smile..

He jumped up on the neighbors yard and headed back to the woods...........I think.... But maybe he was aware that some bad weather was on its way and wanted a full belly.

Tom let Rusty out earlier this evening and it was snowing!!! Now, the weatherman said we'd probably only get a very light amount of snow. When Rusty went for the last time a few minutes ago, it was still coming down. Uggg... Sure not looking forward to winter.

Off to take my shot..good night!!

Our Day Today

Today we spotted these Cirrus Clouds...I had taken this photo, then on the news tonight, the weatherman had a photo that someone else had sent in. That's how I know they are Cirrus clouds, he said they are made up of ice crystals. I thought they were so whispery...

Tom spotted these deer in a neighbors yard a couple blocks from us! So....their still in the neighborhood. (Guess this means I can't rule out them for breaking the bird bath!) lol

Cute picture huh? What's hidden among the trees??? A pickup without an engine.

Look what we had for lunch today! Tom made a pot roast in the pressure cooker. It was so good!! Course my favorite was the carrots. smile...

And last but not least, look at this sweet Morning Glory...these people threw some old dead tree branches  against them. I think that is so sad...They are so pretty and some people just don't appreciate what they have. smile...

Hope you're having a good week.

A Little of This and That

Everyone knows what serendipity means right? To find something unexpected. When we saw this beautiful deer the other day, it was unexpected since we hadn't seen one in a long...time.  Isn't that just like God to put him in our way, to make us surprised and happy???

I spotted this bird the other day and thought is was something different then our usual ones we have around here.

After I looked at another shot, I realized it must be a robin. And I think it may be a juvenile one. Do you think I'm right or just a weird looking one...lol

I spotted these down at the Cancer Center the other day. Pretty aren't they? (Course I think all flowers are beautiful aren't they??) I was just thinking if you like/love flowers (like me) you need to go over to  Beth's blog at Beyond the Garden Gate. Her gardens are absolutely gorgeous!! I wish I could go and visit her..smile...

I bought this pot (filled with pretty flowers) last year, well I finally asked the lady that I got it from at the Farmers Market if she'd repot it . I have another one also and she's going to repot that one also. It's so pretty and I know as she said it will fill out nicely!!

Tom has been fighting a sore throat for the last few days, he thought he was doing better yesterday when we went to the Farmers Market. Then last night he must have had a fever, as he woke up totally soaked, clothes, bedding etc. We assumed his fever must have broke.. How scary is that? He's still got his cough, but it is much looser today. (prayers please..)

Did you have a nice weekend? We had some decent weather, it wasn't too hot or rainy (thank goodness!)

Hope you're in for a wonderful week.

A Little of This and That

Where do I start?? I guess with this cute little bird..smile.. I think it's a finch, but remember the wren I told you about that sang her little heart out?? Well, she's still singing, but I told Tom I know why she is so happy. Originally when we moved here there was an old (cute) little wren house. Then the branch broke off during a storm and the 'house' went crashing to the ground. We bought a new one and finally got it up this year. So.........now she came back this spring to a 'new' house. Who wouldn't you be happy with a new house??  Ha..Ha..

This was Rusty's grooming week! And he was greeted by a couple other little Shih Tzu's, including the groomers little puppy "Mouse"... Isn't this adorable?? Remember Rusty won a free grooming??  Well he got it.. I will put up a pretty picture of him later. When he got home, he was really tired after his play date!! smile..

We did make it to the Farmers Market yesterday. There weren't too many vendors there, but we got a few things. I hope we can go on a Saturday, as there will be more to select from. However, we won't be able to go this week, we have our South Bottoms Reunion this weekend. It should be a good time!! Can't wait!! Anyway when we left, I spotted this train's engine coming down the tracks behind the Farmers Market parking lot!! smile..

I end this post with this beautiful deer's photo!! It was eating some leaves amongst the trees. It was kind of a wilderness area...and it just stood frozen while we sat there and I took pictures...ha..ha..

I hope your week is going well and you're looking forward to Father's Day!
