A Look Back on April and More

h

This was a look out my office window. This poor little squirrel had to work really hard to get that food! Ha Ha

b

My grandson John, comes over and fills my feeders. He's so thoughtful and the birds and wildlife in my yard love him! Ha! Especially that squirrel...lol

I forgot to post this picture last night...here are the twins (John's girls)! They had come over to see their Aunt Brenda when she was here too!

We had such a terrible winter, finally after 3 months we had a nice day! So my friend Diana took me out to lunch for my belated birthday!! smile  We had a nice visit and fun! And of course great food!

This is Pastor Martha on Good Friday. The service was very meaningful. Several of the ladies who come for Bible Study on Friday did some of the readings.

h

Easter Sunday was in April too. Here are the greats, their moms and their great grandma (whose house we were at!) They were having their Easter egg hunt! Boy, were they having fun! The temperature was 81 degrees..so it was a perfect to be sitting and eating outside at the picnic table!!

Here is the design of this years MS Walk t-shirts. My granddaughter Ashley, drew the design, cut out the stamp, then after tie dying the shirts she stamped them. So much work but she says she loves doing it 🤗 Oh yes, then she mailed them up here from Georgia! (This is kind of a play on the Beatles song Come together right now..etc...)

h

We were so bummed, as the day was cold (51 degrees) and terribly windy along with rain. I wasn't sure I would get out in that weather, but then I heard it got moved inside so I wanted to go to support the co-ordinator. Who by the way is amazing!! We are so blessed to have her doing this. We only ended up with 6 of our team members that got out. (People did go out and walked a very short distance. Two on my team did it!) Way to go Jeff & Jean!!! $32,600 was raised of which I raised about $2,100. Always a great cause!

This picture is from the Sioux City Public Museum of Riverview

I wanted to share something with you since it's close to the 4th of July!. I saw in my mother's diary this entry . Mom's diary: July 4, 1936: Has been the hottest day in the history of Sioux City 111 degrees there. We went down in the basement in the afternoon. Saw Betty T.  Elaine, Cecil, Melvin and I went to Riverview tonight. Saw auto races. Rode on the Thriller. I was scared almost lifeless. But I wasn't alone Cecil got plenty scared. I rode the 'Tilt a Wheel' was fun. Had "cream" pop and "Root Beer".

Isn't it fun to step back in time with actual writings and photos? You can not only read about it but see it!

Of course I have to share with you a picture of Winter taking a nap this afternoon.😄

I had a nice weekend, yesterday my son Randy and his wife Vicky came over for a visit. I always love that! Today, I went to church, then over for fellowship. That was wonderful! I hope your day was joyful and a happy one!

Bye for now....

Happy Pre Thanksgiving

My grandson came by one day and put some feeders out my office window!!! What a wonderful surprise. He is so thoughtful. Guess who found them, ha! How brave he was-he looked right at me!!!

Here it is (before my friend Krystal moved the screen up!) Oh yes, and she washed the window too... as you can tell by the previous picture!!! I did see some chick-a-dee’s & nut hatches at the feeder yesterday. But they are flighty- they zip in and back out before I can get a picture! Ha!!

Speaking of squirrels- I saw 5 of them on the back patio tonight. I did notice a couple of them were small, must have been babies. There isn’t much to eat as we don’t put much on the ground, due to the deer☹️

I did spot them the other morning in the neighbors yard. But I think they still stop by to see if I’ve put anything out for them-to no avail.

We had turtle doves all summer, but haven’t seen any for a long time. Not sure what they do in the winter. Do you know???

Well, I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving, filled with love and gratitude!! We all have something to be thankful for....wheather it’s as simple as the roof over our heads to as big as our family. And remember Gods grace and love.

Blessings to you all.

Bye for now.

Days Gone By

Look at my granddaughter Lacey along with her daughters Lorelai and Maggie. Don’t you just love their hats? The girls Meme made them. My daughter in love, Vicky is so gifted. At first when I saw them I thought they were store bought, then was so surprised to find out Vicky had made them !!!!

Monday Lorelai’s school had a Veterans Day program and her Meme (Vicky) went to it again this year!! Everyone is so proud of Vicky and honored to have her in our family.

And of course Lorelai had to give her Papa a big ((hug)) for being there and bringing Meme-lol

They were home this weekend, so I had a long “Mommy do’s” list for Randy. We did watch a little football in between his other commitments. Sorry to say both teams lost. ☹️🏈

Lacey sent me this picture this morning. They are donating their pine tree to the town. It’s a big deal. Every year the town puts up a tree in the center of the town. They had been on a waiting list for several
years.  I think they have a parade and a tree lighting ceremony! I will share more pictures after they light the tree !!!

I believe this is a sparrow! Even though he’s just a sparrow-he has pretty markings on him. 😊

How is your weather?? Ours is promising. It is to warm up tomorrow to a big high of  45 degrees. I hope yours is better where you live.

Bye for now...

What's Up??

We saw this dandelion field as we were zooming down the road one day. My great granddaughter said "Wow! That's a lot of dandelions!" ha! ha!

I had this inquisitive little squirrel.. (which I haven't seen for awhile.)

He got up in my old wheelbarrow..butt in the air!! Looking, searching..trying to find IT!

I think he must have buried a nut or something in there. Maybe he found all of  the ones he had buried in my pots and planters..

I had lots of these cat birds...they are marked really pretty.

And of course the orioles. They came for quite awhile, but had to share their grape jelly and oranges with the cat birds. sad So, I haven't seen them much anymore either.

But these sweethearts, come visit all the time. I usually put safflower seed in the pan on the patio. They seem to love it. We've had those black birds here almost all spring. When we fill the suet and seed cakes...they seem to finish them off in a couple days..uggg Finally, last week my son filled the hanging ones again. Yeah!! And thankfully they haven't returned.

One night there was one of those beautiful moons out..my camera never seems to be able to capture the true essence of it. But it was really pretty!

Are you ready for the 4th?? I just almost hate to see it come. Our state has legalized fireworks this year. (I know they used to shoot them off before...knowing they'd never get caught). But now...it's terrible...they are really shooting off BIG ones. Poor Rusty, he just goes nuts. Do you have big plans for this holiday weekend?? I hear on the news the price of regular gas have dropped below $2.00 a gallon. What is your price where you live?? It's $2.06 where I live, and $1.95 across town!!! (I'm assuming one area sells more than the other.) Stay safe...

I've Missed Blogging

Life has really been a challenge lately. My life is more of  one than getting food is for this little squirrel! smile... Do you see the seeds flying through the air???

He is such a little pig, he is eating so fast that the food is all over his face and belly. Then when he moves, it all falls to the ground and his partner eats it!! lol  And he finally emptied this feeder...sigh...

So, then he headed to the suet feeder. (And he finished that off too..) The poor birds really didn't have a chance to eat much of this food.

This was when Tom was in the ER last week. Things have not improved (if anything they are worse). We went to our family doctor this week, they had him do a 24 hour urine test, and he was suppose to have a stomach sonogram also. We got the urine jug returned. (haven't heard the results yet.) The heart doctor also wanted him to get fitted with a heart monitor to wear for 24 hours.  Yesterday, when we were suppose to get the monitor put on, he was so weak there was no way he could make it to that appointment. Finally in the afternoon the home health nurse and myself got him to heart doctor. Again they changed his medication and have him set up to see another physician and he will more than likely do a procedure on his heart next week.

I was thinking today how I miss blogging, but I know people like to read uplifted and fun posts. And, since things have changed so much here it's been difficult to see and think of positive things to blog about. But with prayer there is always 'hope' that good things will come.

Have a good weekend.

Birds and Squirrels

I spotted this "chick a dee" out our window, just sitting in the tree! If you are familiar with this bird, you know how flighty they are. So, seeing this one just sitting there for a few seconds, I was surprised and happy!!

Now look at this one!! He must have had enough to eat or is trying to cool down!! (Between the cold cement and also being in the shade!!)

Then he hopped up on the railing and..............

look at him...some of the suet (he was chowing down on) is still on his face...lol

Last night, I saw this Turtle Dove just sitting in the tree...for a long time. After I took a few pictures I realized it was resting and soon it went to sleep. smile..

I didn't feel good yesterday, but felt better today. So, I got to exercise and finished getting the newsletters ready to mail. That was a big accomplishment for me! ha!

Can you believe we're in a new month? 'Where oh where' did August go?? Do you feel the same way??

He's Back....and more...

Remember we had went shopping for bird seed the other day?? Well, Tom put it out and look who is eating it!! Darn, I'm not sure how he climbed that pole!! Those little critters are unbelievably creative! Especially when their hungry!!! smile.. And since they make us smile...we figured it is okay!!

Thought you might like to see one of the pictures I put in the newsletter. This was our downtown in about 1945 or 1946. There are a couple theaters, the Iowa (on the right in the photo) was showing the movie "Sentimental Journey"! Love the marque, with the lights! And notice the Checker cab parked out front with his door open, I'm thinking he was either picking some one up or dropping them off!!!

I did finish the newsletter today and sent it off to Kinko's to be printed. (Over the last several years, things have really changed for me.) I now send the newsletters over the computer in a pdf. file. They'll have it done by tomorrow. When I started, we physically took it to a printer in town and sometimes we'd have to wait for almost a week to have them done!! This is soooo much better! They are an amazing company!

Tomorrow will be our sweet Lorelai's 4th birthday party. I'm excited!! What will you be doing this weekend??

Picture This

We spotted this little squirrel laying out there on the steps in the heat of the day. I asked on Face Book for a title for this picture. They were all really unique and funny. How about you? Can you put a label on this picture??

Today, the sparrows were in full force. If I titled that first picture, I'd say "Hey guys look at what we've found!" And here they all come...lol

I'm not sure what this bird is, but I noticed the black hat from the back. Do you know what kind of bird it is??

We didn't do too much today, except sleep in. Just rested most of  it. I got caught up on a couple of my shows, while Tom was taking a nap. (I love Poldark and Big Brother- which he isn't crazy about!) Do you have favorite shows??

Time to take my shot, then off to bed.....

Finally Rain

We loved getting this rain today. Last I checked, we got .80 of rain! Yeah!!

Nice to get rain, but it was 'cold' out there. We haven't had any rain since last fall.

Look at this Northern Flicker eating a little suet. Good thing there was some there because....

This little guy opened the cage on the suet, it dropped down and he carried it across the deck, so he could have it all to himself...

We looked out the window the other night and I said to Tom, did you see that hawk floating across the sky?? He said no. Later he said look at all of them! The most are in the first picture, I count 7 of them. This is very unusual. This happened a couple nights. Not sure what they were doing, or what they were after.

How has your day been? We stayed in due to the weather and we really didn't have to go anywhere. (Good call for us!)
