Chicken! Chicken!

Each year when we go to the cemetery, we stop into this bar that is famous for their broasted chicken. (Note the chicken..already for Memorial Day...smile..) They also have gambling machines. I love to drop a little in them. My SIL egged me on with, "you are so lucky you should try your luck." So, I had 3 one dollar bills and put them in. Won...Lost...Won..Lost...Won! (then I heard, chickens here...) okay time to cash out! I won $3.75! That meant, I won, .75 cents...lol

Tom's Aunt Pearl, her husband and brother were good friends with the original owner. He had several senior photos hanging in there from this town. We found this one, which contains Pearls photo!

A little closer photo!

When we were leaving, I spotted this sign...I thought sometime I'd love to drive those 6 miles and see this church....It must be a little country church. (This gets on my to do list!!)

Another shot...that poor old yellow building, I understand, is full of old antiques. That too would be fun to check out...lol (If it truly is full of antiques..)

Just a parting shot, as we left to head to the cemetery....

Today was another 'busy' one...  Plus my son stopped by and I talked to my daughter for an hour and a half. smile... So, it was a good day!!! How about you? What kind of a day did you have??

How we live our lives...

Thursday was the day we laid our Aunt Pearl to rest... The trip was long and we saw many sites...

Pretty barns and farms...

Grain bins to be filled.............

Old barns as we whizzed by............

Winter wheat fields...........

The Spirit Mound....  it's very interesting to read about..

The single old windmill...standing so still..even on this windy day...

The day was rainy,  as you can see by the clouds and the rain soaked fields... It felt like the heavens opened up and shed tears along with us for the loss of our Aunt Pearl.

My Aunt Berniece also passed away Saturday (she was 90 also) and her funeral was Friday. I was not able to travel to her funeral, it not only rained all day but it SNOWED too. The tears continued to fall.........

I shall miss these two beautiful ladies, but feel the times and conversations we spent together were wonderful. I will take so much from their lives, how they lived and put it into my life. I know because of them I am a better person today.. This is how we should live our lives..with no regret...  "So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets." When you wish someone would call or come by for visit, write you a letter or just send you a card saying  they are thinking of you..maybe ask you to lunch or just be a friend... these are the things we must do for others...life is short...and when their gone you will know you treated them the way you would like to have been treated!!! smile.... These are just a few ways we treated each other... I miss them but know they are both at home with the Lord...

Blessings...to all of you who read this 'simple' blog and pray for us...as I pray for all of you my dear blog friends...

Sad news..new news...

Thank you so much for all your prayers for Aunt Pearl..God has chosen to take her home to be with Him. She passed away Sunday morning, we have been very busy making all the arrangements. Sunday night I got a call that MY Aunt Berneice passed away Saturday. Both aunts were about the same age 90! So we know they both had lived a long and fulfilled life. But we will miss both of them immensely.

Life is so always on going. The end of life and the beginning of new life continues to go on. As simple as this violet being  the first I've seen this year...finally.....smile...but I LOVE it don't you?? Early every spring they are one of my 'favorite' flowers..

And there is a new baby coming...smile.. so good news is that new life is coming... and this week we shall find out if it's a BOY or a GIRL...

I wanted to get a post put up so you would know what was happening here in Iowa.... again I thank all of you for your wonderful prayers.

Blessings to all....

Spring Cleaning and more...

Here are some of my Red and Purple hats....I took pictures of them, then printed it and taped it on the front of the hat box. Tom got a set of shelves and set them up downstairs and we'll line them up on there, that way when I need one I won't have to open every box to find it!!! smile... They had been  in the bedroom, now we have lots of free space in there..smile .. (and that really makes DH happy!)

It was our grandson Jesse's 17th birthday today... my...my where do the years go?? I remember the day he was born and my son called a said...'we have a baby boy'!! Those were the days before they found out ahead of time what they were having..smile...

Later we went up to the hospital to visit Aunt Pearl, the nursing home  sent her up there yesterday, with a cough and fever. She has pneumonia and her electrolytes and sodium levels were low. They had her sitting up in a chair..she didn't look very well and was quite confused:( Just breaks our hearts to see her like that... We could use some prayers for her... You are all so sweet and loving I know your prayers will help us all through this...  And remember, if you have any prayer requests be sure and let me know and I will pray for you...

Later we went to Texas Roadhouse for dinner with some friends. We always enjoy our time with them, even though we don't get together that often. We sat and visited and visited..they have a new grand baby, so you know we had to see pictures and talk about her!!! smile... And of course we had to let them know that in a few months we will also have a new 'great' grand baby... Now see the only difference is the 'great'...smile... Course it didn't take long and the restaurant was full and we had to cut our visiting short to let others have a seat!! :(

For the next couple days...we will continue our 'spring' cleaning and will let you know what other organizing tip's we have....lol What about you...tell me some of your organizing ideas...

Lunch with Auntie Pearl

Friday February 11th: This morning started off much nicer than we were use to!! smile... the temperature was 22 degrees, 'wow' we haven't even seen it that warm for over a week!!

We went to Micky D's for hamburgers and fries, then headed for the nursing home to have lunch with Aunt Pearl!! It was a nice day and we had a great visit!!! They have some pretty birds...and of course a kitty who welcome all visitors.. smile.....

As we were leaving the nursing home..the wind was blowing as you can see by the flag in this picture. So we ran a few more errands then came home and settled in to watch another movie:)

**It was late last night and of course I was tired...so am finishing this this morning.. I have a great cookie recipe I will share with you tonight!

Yesterday-Today-and Tomorrow....

Yesterday morning I walked into the front room and found Rusty sleeping in the sun in front of the fireplace..doesn't he look sleepy?? smile.... You would think it was cold out the way he was seeking some warmth!!

We headed out to therapy yesterday morning...finally... It seemed like there was always a reason why I couldn't make it there ...weather..(especially) and health.. The river looks so wintery, frozen and cold!! Afterwards...we went out to lunch, then shopping!! Even though it was 'cold' out Tom took my scooter out for me to ride around on! smile.... he is amazing!!!

Later around 6 p.m. we headed out for our monthly potluck... It was soooo bitterly cold out we weren't sure there would be too many showing up. But we had 20 in attendance and quite a variety of food! Funny, I had made a Lemon cake last weekend for a potuck at church, but since it was so cold and snowy we didn't go, so we froze the cake!! It was a perfect item to take...after a busy day away from home. I frosted it with some Lemon frosting...once we got there I took the cover off along with the frosting....lol Tom had pushed the lid down on the cake and the frosting stuck to the cover!! I was so embarassed...as I had to refrost it!!! crumbs and all........smile... but it was really good!!! As I said it was so very COLD..by the time we got home I was ready to relax and enjoy the warmth of the fireplace...thus no blog last night...

This was the view I saw bright and early this morning.... I was busy all morning working on my newsletter... the stories have been coming in and this will be a great one...I know everyone will really enjoy it!!

Tomorrow I was suppose to go out to coffee with a girlfriend...but she called and had to cancel.. So we will be going up to see Aunty Pearl instead...I know she will be a 'happy camper'...

Oh..good news about our friend Erica..check out her blog and read all about it......... and thank you for all your prayers..they worked!

What have you been doing?? I always love to hear about your day..

Family weekend...

Yesterday we headed to the nursing home to visit Aunt Pearl and have lunch with her. She wanted Pizza Hut's chicken alfredo, which of course we love too. For dessert we also got their little apple pies! It was so nice to see her, she looked so good. I loved this snowman out front, apparently some kids came to visit and made it!  And of course the kitties always sit out there, along with the 'cat lady'..smile....

Pearl looked good...and was having a good time!!

Then today we had a family dinner at Applebee's...it was so nice to see all of them! Lives get so busy..between work, school and of course just living..smile..it's difficult to all be together. So I thought what a better birthday gift to myself then to get them all together for Sunday dinner! With the help of my 'daughter in love' here we were!!! Oh yes it was the greatest gift of all!!!

Look at all the love....husband, son, 'daughter in love', and grandchildren, including one to soon be!! smile.......  I think togetherness is a very important ingredient to family life. Barbara Bush

What was your weekend like??

Post Christmas dinner...

Today we went to visit Aunt Pearl and took her our post Christmas Eve dinner! Our plans for oyster stew and pie got way layed since I got the flu last Wednesday. So we celebrated today.... Last night I made a Key Lime Pie and this morning Tom made his infamous oyster stew! Everything was wonderful! Pearl ate 3 or 4 bowls, ...smile... she was hungry for it!  As Tom and Karen visited with her, I went down to her room and updated her TV, got it back to it's original picture (bright and clear!). Then I worked on the "Child's Remote" getting it programed!  It took me quite awhile to do all this and it was very HOT in her room!! {Of course you know me and my MS..I don't do well with heat..} Anyway, I went back up front and I was beet red!!! So I had to go outside to get some cool, fresh air to calm me down.. and that is when we spotted this kitty sitting out front guarding the nursing home... smile...

I've got to admit it was nice to come home to our cool...house...smile...

Snow Globe Day....

It was so pretty when I looked out the window this morning..I just had to take a picture of it. So, I closed the door and opened the window (and screen) then took this shot. I don't think Tom would have appreciated the fact that I had opened the window in 3 degree temperatures... ha

Later on when Rusty went out, we heard him barking and barking...here there were turkeys heading towards our yard and he wanted to make sure that didn't happen!

Had to get a close up shot of the turkey.....I think they are getting bigger and bigger.... maybe just in time for Christmas dinner! ha

Then we got another snow globe moment........aren't these flakes pretty?? "Let us love winter, for it is the spring of genius."--Pietro Aretino

The birds were filling the trees today. We saw 3 sets of cardinals! It was hard to get a picture of all of them in the tree at one time. One would be on the feeder while the other two were in the tree...

And there were also female cardinals in the trees........

Now I promised you last night I would tell you about Aunt Pearl's new remote!!! Well here it is...ha Now the reason for it is...we went over to the nursing home the other day and when we went down to her room, her TV that we got  her about a month ago was pretty mixed up!! smile.. Closed caption was on...and the colors were off...  We realized she had been pushing all the buttons on the remote that came with the TV.  I had told her...all she needed to use was the on--off switch, channel and volume up and down buttons..but..you know what happened!!  So Tom got this remote yesterday... smile.. now we have to get over there and along with the directions I will update the TV then set up this remote and bring the one for the TV home.

I've had lots of prayers going up today..first my son and his family headed out in the *snow* to Minneapolis to see the "Bears" vs Vikings game tomorrow in the COLD and SNOW!! But with thanks to the Lord they made it just fine! Then (ironically enough) they got there at 5 and our granddaughter Ashley and her friend Ben left Huntsville heading home to Alpharetta, GA. at 5! I just know the Lord is watching over them too...

Will continue to let you know how their trips go....
