To Rest

The first weekend in May, we headed to the cemetery in South Dakota to put Karen (Tom's sister) to rest. If you remember, she passed away in January. And with our weather conditions etc. I along with her family, decided to wait until spring to bury her ashes.

We made this trip many times since Tom and I got married. All of his family is buried up there. Great Grandmother, Grandmother, aunts, uncles, cousins...his mother and of course Tom, and now Karen.

The sites never change, just some lose their color.

As you can see these folks have their spring planting done. Or the ground is just disked up, I'm not sure.

This one was so pretty and clean. Love the variation of colors. But no matter what that RED just sticks out...its so pretty.

And along with the RED look at that luscious GREEN grass. I love Spring, where our world turns GREEN!

I love seeing all kinds of farms. The YELLOW (truck maybe) stands out in the photo!!

And down this long driveway another farm place sits. BLUE skies, RED barns and GREEN grass make for a gorgeous photo!!!

I took this as we were leaving the cemetery. It looks forlorn and of course it was a SAD day. We gathered together, listening to the song 'In The Garden', then as we circled around her Urn, holding hands as we said the Lords Prayer. The gentleman that dug the grave was there, he asked if we wanted to put her ashes in the hole. Sweet little Lorelai said she would. (She loved Karen so much, they had great times together. Baking brownies, playing and just spending time together.) We were so amazed by her, so much love in that little...sad...heart of hers. Her grandma comforted her as tears fell down those sweet cheeks. Rest in Peace my dear sister in law Karen..

Memorial Day and...

So funny, I was watching Tom and Rusty when we took him to the groomer Saturday. (Remember...he loves to go and see his friends and get a hair cut and bath!!) When you go in, she has a gate to keep the doggies inside and safe. Rusty wanted to get through that gate so he could join his friends back there..lol

We went to so many different cemeteries and each one had beautiful flags just blowing in the wind!

This cemetery is where my Grandmother is, it's an old one, but look at how big it is.. the flags line the street, it seemed like the go on forever..........

Then there was the one where my family is buried (just down the road from our old house). As I was sitting in the van, I snapped this photo.

This old barn sat across the road from the last cemetery we went to...

We needed to remember those who served in the military and those who gave the ultimate sacrifice with their life today and in the future.

Birds and Ducks

The other day when we were leaving to head to our local cemetery's I spotted this turtle dove sitting on the railing of our deck.

Then it sat down and was resting for a little bit!! smile...

Then it got up again...they are pretty aren't they? We just love watching them eating and waddling around the patio.

And then it was about time to fly away....

At one of the cemeteries they have a pond with ducks in it. It's so pretty and peaceful!

Little closer picture, but it was taken quite aways away!

I hope you're doing something this weekend. Have you or do you go to the cemeteries? Most of the ones we go to are so peaceful and that is the way it should be I think.

Day Trip

We went up to the cemetery today, where Tom's family is. It's about 75 miles away. We were touring this one town, where Tom's Great Grandmother lived. I spotted this little gate leading into a backyard. I think it was a haven for birds. smile...

Actually it was a very pleasant day, but these ominous clouds looked bad! We feared it would rain once we got to the cemetery, but it stayed lovely out!!

This was such a funny thing I spotted. Karen wanted to stop at this butcher shop. As we were driving up the driveway towards the butcher shop, I spotted all these deer horns along the fence posts. THEN when I was sitting in the van waiting, I spotted this sign... I started laughing.. HORNY AVE. Such a play on words..smile..

Well, it's time to take my shot and head to bed... good night all......

Road Trip...

Yesterday, we traveled to South Dakota...these are some of the sites we saw! Lovely farmsteads!

The day had some whispy clouds across the skies...the land was in different colors as Fall was in the air!

The farmers were combining their soybeans and look at the dust they are stirring up...course this is normal..thank goodness they are in the cab.

Here was a farmstead with a red barn under the electric towers and wires.... (do you think they hummm??)

And last but not least....my kind of barn...smile....maybe a fixer upper??? I just couldn't pass this one up!!!

We had a nice day, went to the cemetery, where Tom's mom and aunt Pearl are buried along with several other family members. Tom's cousins and their spouses drove up also, afterwards, we went to a neighboring small town for lunch. I had called ahead of time and they had a table all set up for us, which was really nice. They have really good fried chicken dinners, so that is what we all (9 of us) had! It was a lovely day...they went back home, and we toured a few more towns...I have lots of pictures of buildings I will share with you on another post.

I hope you are having a blessed week and looking forward to a nice weekend.....
