Around the Block

Aren't they pretty?? I was coming home one day, and saw these beautiful day lilies and knew I just had to get a picture of them!! smile.. So I stopped, looked around and no one was near by. I pulled out my handy camera and started snapping these photos.

Then I turned around and saw this...where do you think it went?? Got me...smile.. But I just thought it had to become a photo for me..smile..

I know it's hard to see, but there are lots of different flowers/plants in this photo! This lady always has such a beautiful garden every year... there are bird houses, bird baths and a bench, where she can sit on and enjoy the birds, butterflies and 'bugs'...lol

Poor Rusty is having such a hard time tonight with all the fireworks and boomers going off. I feel so sorry for him. I did buy a 'thunder shirt' for him last year. I think we only put it on him a couple times. Uggg Tom didn't think it would work and of course he was right.

Our weather was my kind of weather today. The high was 70 and very low humidity. I did sit out for a few minutes this afternoon and it felt really good! Love the fresh air!!

Do you have plans for the 4th?? None here, just another day trying to keep Rusty calm.

Flowers and Such

I took this picture the other day as we were leaving. As you can see it was raining. There is water droplets on the deep green plant in the watering can on the right! They are really growing!!Yeah!!

Here are a few new pieces of art in our downtown area!! (Not sure what this one means...) Any thoughts or ideas?

Now to me, this is easy...it must be a giant key!! lol

As we were heading back downtown, I hurriedly snapped this picture. It was just after a downpour. It had been dark out..and some of the street lights (that are halogen-I think, As they come on when it gets so dark outside.) were on,  it really seemed weird.

Like last year, this lady has planted a garden in her front! Looks like sweet corn and tomatoes. Then there are marigolds along the sidewalk!! I'll have to watch it as the days go by. Do you have a garden this year? We don't..(sad), but that is just one of those things that happen. It would have been too difficult for us. But...maybe next year!

Do you have plans for the weekend?? Nothing much going on here.

Garden in a Yard and Update

As we were heading down the street the other day, I noticed they had their front yard tilled up again this year. We had a letter from the guy who tilled our garden spot last year, reminding us to set up an appointment for this year. I thought it was too early, then I saw this and thought...maybe it wasn't to soon. smile...

Saw this as we were heading to the doctors the other day. I told Tom, after the appointment lets run over and see if the Canadian Geese were still there. But, I had someone coming to the house to do my hair, so I thought better of it and headed home..sad...

Great news, my SIL will be coming home tomorrow. I know this is due in a major part due to all your loving, caring thoughts and prayers. Thank you so much, and I would also appreciate your continued prayers for her to stay well and strong.

Good night....and may God bless....

Tomatoes???

Tom has been picking tomatoes for the last couple of days...and here are some of his rewards..smile... We have been eating them like an apple...with a little salt and pepper...yummmm! Are you harvesting anything from your gardens yet? Are you fighting with any creatures? Tom says the deer seem to have been leaving the tomatoes alone, but the birds are getting to some of them before he can pick them..sad... So he has picked a few early trying to beat the birds...smile... thus we have them on the window sills to finish ripening!

Rusty went into the groomers today! Doesn't he look handsome? He just loves to go there...she must really treat him with lots of love. It was a fun day for him....but when he got home he was tired so went to bed and slept most of the afternoon...smile...

At one of our Red Hat luncheons my bracelet..broke! These are some of the beads that I gathered off the floor...so now I'm wondering what should I do with them, instead of having them sit in a bowl? smile..

Tom filled the bird baths and soon..they were filled with the birds. Just look at the patio full them, along with the bird feeder. They must eat like crazy during this HOT weather to keep up their energy to try and stay cool...And then of course they love to hop in the pool of cool water...(I can just hear them peeping...'thanks Mr. Tom'...smile...)

Yes, we were cooler today...by 1 degree....It was 99 degrees with a heat index of 102! I pray it will soon cool down a little...maybe tomorrow...smile...

Fireflies in the Garden and.....

Today I was outside and saw these pretty flowers! You know me...I love...love...love all of them. These sit in a barrel off our back porch...smile... Tom was busy the last couple days..watering the yard, as the yard people had put some fertilizer or something on it and it had to be watered within 48 hours! Of course we had  had a few sprinkles of rain but not enough...(sad) Yesterday, after watering the lower level, he mowed the yard. It always looks soooo nice when he gets done. But it is a long and tedious job for him. One he enjoys however. I worked a little in the house...cleaning up the kitchen. Have you ever used an "Eraser"? My friend told me about them and how they take care of everything! smile... so we bought them and 'finally' I used one yesterday. They are amazing....I tried it on the refrigerator, counter tops and other dirty items in the kitchen...smile...

Later in the afternoon we went for a ride and got us a "Dilly Bar" at the Dairy Queen...remember those? We hadn't had one in years......so that was a nice treat on a lovely 'summer' afternoon. We drove down by the river, I have other photos..I will share maybe tomorrow. But loved this one..shows so much summer activity. Campers, Riverboat Casino, boaters...the Veterans Bridge...sun going down on a lazy river....smile...

We've been seeing lightening bugs...flying around in the yard and garden in the evening. However, I was 'not' able to catch them in my lense...sad... Don't you just love them though?? Are they lighting up your back yard?? Did you ever catch them and put them in a jar?? One of the fun things we use to do as kids.... (couldn't you just see Tom running around out there trying to catch them for me????...smile...) That's why I didn't ask...as he would have tried..

He did however check out his garden yesterday and the deer have been wrecking havoc with the plants..sad... One day it was fine, the next they had nibbled the tops off the tomato plants and destroyed the green peppers... He  sprayed coyote urine on strips of material  and put a radio in one of his sheds down there. Hopefully, this will   discourage them from feasting on our plants... I hope if you have a garden you are not plagued with these creatures....

Good news...I had a call from my doctor...and the test I took last week came back "normal"..We are very happy with that news!! smile...

Hope you are all enjoying some summer weather this weekend...we're having rain...(of course---after Tom watered...but at least he got the yard mowed...and all of God's water is wonderful for the lawn, flowers and garden...) But this will be one more Farmers Market we will miss due to weather...sad.... Have a blessed weekend...

Is it summer yet???

Sunday was a relaxing day for both of us...but especially for Tom...(well it was Father's Day wasn't it??) smile.... Monday..since I had taken my MS shot Sunday night left me feeling kind of blah...My hair was in a dire need to be cut...so my friend stopped by after work and cut it! She is the best!!! I wished I had the energy to bake something for her when she got here...of course I didn't...so I thought 3-2-1... yes I baked her the 3-2-1 dessert, remember? 3 Tbls. of mix, 2 Tbls. of water...and bake it in the microwave for 1 minute! and she loved it...smile...

This morning after I exercised, I told Tom I wanted to step out and check out our flowers... and look..my babies are growing...smile...

Years ago I thought it would be fun if everyone who came to our garden would sign a stone! Then we went to Georgia and I told Brenda and the girls about it, well since they couldn't come to our garden, the girls found these stones and painted them to decorate our garden... (Ashley did an extra one decorated for my Red Hat's...)
Yesterday, Tom picked 4 red tomatoes...smile...We enjoyed them... I noticed this morning there was a green one hidden among the basil...smile...

Don't you think our pansies are lovely??? They are so vibrant...yellow...blue, red and white with purple centers!! Isn't God amazing???

And last, but not least...another yellow flower...how they grow so beautiful is wondrous.... Tom is so great about watering all these lovely flowers and the birds. This is so important, especially right now, as we are in the midst of a heat wave! The last 3 days have been in the 90's. Tomorrow...the temps are to go down to the  70's...with possibly some rain , which we can use as long as there isn't any bad weather with it. My Tom made some 'chili' today...ha...ha..I can just hear you all laughing!!! I know....but it was delicious!!

So, what was your day like? Are you having these terrible temperatures?? And are you ready for summer to begin???

February 18, 1939: Jack and I finished moving into our own house today! Mama helped us. We spent our first night really alone. Paul and Bobbie came after Mama. I'm sure I'm going to like it here. The wind blew and it rained.

Gardening today and more....

Our peonies are in full bloom and so pretty! This year they are early for Memorial Day... I've always loved this flower! Do you have them in your garden and are they in bloom?

Tom was busy planting his garden today. He put in the tomato and green pepper plants along with the basil! Here he is watering them with his God  water...that he collected when it rained! He runs a hose from his collection barrel over to the garden and voila!

Tom's garden!

I was talking with my sister in love today, she asked what I was doing? And I said 'butterfly' watching! smile... They are so funny! And so fast! I finally caught one..flying toward the bush. smile...  Aren't they just beautiful? They seem to just hover in mid air!!

We even spotted two of them getting their fix at the same time...smile... This is just amazing isn't it? I've had lots of people trying to figure out what kind of bush this is. It grew up in between our lilac bush..not sure how or where it came from.

I was busy..busy working on paperwork most of the day. Seems I can never get caught up...smile... I lined up most of the paperwork for the newsletter I must get out by the end of the month...smile... Did I say I was retired?..hee...hee

Hope you had a blessed day!
