Catch Up

Wow...I can't believe how time has been flying by...first it's one month and before I know it, another one is here! Soon, the children will be heading back to school and I'm sure their thinking the same thing...where did it go?? ha!

Everyday there is something to write about and I just don't seem to get it down on paper. Or should I say, I don't put it up on the blog.. but will try to do better.. but here is a bit of my days..with more to come....

One night as bedtime drew near, I shut the TV off. In the quiet, I journaled for the past couple of days with the memories that I held dear. I woke Rusty up as he laid stretched out on the living room floor, to let him know he had to go outside before he went to bed. I went to the door and as I opened it I felt the heat and humidity of the summer’s night. It made me really appreciate the air-conditioning in the house. I saw the lights of the fireflies as they blinked on and off while they flew across the yard! What a beautiful site. Then I looked into the dark night’s sky and saw the moon as it tried to shine through the clouds as they  were floating by. Memories-memories-childhood memories is how I felt on that dark, hot, and steamy summers night.

When I woke the other morning, and opened the curtains in the front room, I noticed the bird seed was gone. The deer must have come in the night and cleaned it up. But I saw a little bunny out there who was trying to find some scraps of corn. Its pink ears gleaming in the morning sunlight. Sweetness, only God can provide!!

Last night as bedtime drew near....I finished watching my TV show and prepared to let Rusty out for one last time.  As I opened the door a whiff of something different crossed my nostrils.  At first I thought someone had a fire pit burning, (which some of our neighbors do). Then to my horror I realized it was the smoke from the California fires. I remembered seeing a picture of the haze from them earlier in the day.
Please let us pray...(or have good thoughts)
God, I'm asking you to intervene in the Southern California wildfires. Only you can calm the winds, send the rain, strengthen every helper and do miracles!

When I found this on line, I thought it was perfect to share on this post. I can not believe how terrible this fire is....and the fact that the smoke can drift all way to the Midwest is unbelievable.. sad...

more to come...

Bunny & Birds

I have had such a hard time catching a shot of the Orioles, but I did get this one. I haven't seen any for a few days. But as soon as they come back I'll try again!! smile..

The other day I looked across the street and saw these two bunny rabbits sitting in the neighbors yard. Look at them...one was looking one way and the other one was looking the other direction.. I'm wondering if they had a family somewhere in between them. I saw a show one time on how rabbits hide their babies in the ground, such as in the middle of the yard. They cover them with fur & grass. She nurses them for about 5 minutes a day, their milk is very rich and lasts them all day. It is just amazing..

Speaking of babies...our cute little wren house we bought at the Farmers Market last year is occupied this year!! Smile... I kept hearing her sing from morning till night.. The other day when I was leaving I saw her fly in and saw a little stick protruding out. I love it!!!

We had a bird bath for years, as time went by the top kept getting knocked off and chipped, until finally it got broke in half...sad... (Not sure if it was the turkeys or the deer!) Then I saw a way to use it as a birdfeeder. (Theresa, at The Run Around Ranch told me about doing this.) Well, I finally got someone to make it, and the storm we had blew it away... sad... I need to have someone check out back to see if they can find it.

This little Mama sits out in our yard about the same time every morning. I bet she has babies out there too... Exciting...

Sorry I've been among the missing, I hope to get better at posting again.

I'd really appreciate prayers for my SIL, she's still in the hospital.

Blessings....

How long can you sing??

I promised you a story about the bunny rabbit. The other day it was raining and I spotted this bunny taking a bath out in the rain! smile.. See the rain drops on the grass??

There actually were two of them out there in the yard. I spotted them sitting together, so I turned my camera on...and zing...off they ran. Chasing each other around and around...ha...ha! It was so funny!!

So, I'm not sure if one was a Mommy with her little one. Anyway, all of a sudden the Mommy (maybe) looked around....like...where did it go?? So off she ran...toward the street thinking the little one had headed that way. She was out there looking up and down the street, then off she went down the alley looking for the little one..smile... How entertaining they can be!

Tom spotted all these birds having dinner on the patio table. ha...ha...

Now for that question.."how long can you sing?? Or your favorite singer?" Doesn't take long does it, before we'd (humans) would get hoarse?? So...isn't it amazing how a little wren can sing 'constantly' all day long??? I wonder how they can do it?? Isn't God just wonderful???

Hope you had a fun weekend!!

Wintery Day....

When we woke up this morning, it was snowing and it continued all day! They say we got 3", and our high at 6 o'clock tonight was 1 above...brrr Tomorrow our HIGH will only be -2!!! With an overnight low of -14 below... Do you know why this is a good thing?? They always say..if "March comes in like a Lion, it will go out like a Lamb!!"  Lets hope this is right!!!

I looked out the window this afternoon and spotted this little bunny rabbit. I took some pictures, but soon she ran across the back yard and settled in here. Poor baby!!! Soon, off it went...to where, I don't know...

Don't you wonder where animals go in the winter, especially under such severe  conditions?? Next week I'll do a post about birds and where they spend their nights... It was really interesting to me.

We had an interesting day yesterday and I'll tell you all about it tomorrow. And I'll have a BIG SUPRISE for you coming up next week!!!

Stay well, safe, and warm!

Critters Around Our House

This morning the sky was so gorgeous this morning...so I "ran" to the window and snapped this picture before heading to the dungeon (as I told my daughter this morning...ha..ha...) to stretch and exercise!

I caught these little guys yesterday at the suet feeder. The nut hatch and woodpecker. The nuthatches still boggle my mind how they eat 'upside' down...couldn't you just see us trying this??? smile...

After my huffing and puffing while exercising it was time for our mid morning snack! smile... Have you had these Chocolate Fudge Brownies? They are amazing...but very chocolatey..so we had a little cup of fruit along with them.

Peeking around the suet!

Doesn't this red bellied woodpecker have a beautiful red head??

Yesterday, I looked across the street and saw this bunny sitting in our neighbors yard!  And later on in the late afternoon, it was still sitting there...smile..  I read a column in our local newspaper where a devotional writer writes about the bunnies Flippy and Floppy who live in her yard. She always does a parallel using their antics to the things we do in our lives. smile.. Anyway, she mentions seeing them in the winter and I thought I never see any in the winter and then there it was!! Big as life! smile...

And a Northern Flicker visited the suet also! They are always so pretty to watch and also such a BIG bird!

And look! Mr. Squirrel decided to leap from the tree onto the feeder in hopes of getting at the food! However, it didn't work, as soon as he'd reach down for it the lid would slide and cover the food. He finally jumped back onto the tree!!

Hope you  are having a better day than this poor squirrel had....smile...

Praise God we got rain today....

We woke up this morning...and soon rain drops started to fall...smile... I love the sight, the sound and the smell of rain...oh what a blessing!

When I looked out the window I saw our local bunny, sitting under a tree...soaking wet....the poor baby...

Even our 'hen and chicks' were drinking up the waters from heaven... don't they look like their raising their arms to the heavens??? smile...

The flowers in the wheel barrow were blooming and looking oh so green!!!

And last but not least Tom looked out and saw our "Naked Ladies" in bloom...smile... I told him the other day I hadn't seen them this year...and was so bummed, as I thought the heat and drought had taken their toll on them and we probably wouldn't have them in bloom this year. And then...there they were this morning!!! Love...love...love it!! I always think of our friends at the lakes....she told Tom she had a "Naked Lady" for him...smile...and then she gave him the bulbs for these lovely flowers... We want to get up there next month and visit with her. She is in a nursing home and I talked with her last week. smile..

I hope you are having a wonderful weekend!

Busy day........

We did lots of running today, Tom finally got his glasses taken care of. After his eye surgery last year, he had new glasses made once his eye healed. But soon, they weren't right and he was having trouble with them. So they rechecked them and made him new glasses again. Shortly after that he felt they still weren't correct, so went back to the eye surgeon and found out the stigmatization  was his problem. So he suggested he wait a few months, by then it should settle down, then have new ones made. So...finally he has new correct glasses! smile...

Tonight we went across the river..smile...to buy a CD holder Tom found for sale in the paper this morning. (So nice to see the river low this year...sure different than last year when we had the flood.)

When we found the people's house who had the holder for sale, it was along the river..I love to just watch the flow of the river. Reminds me of the old days when the river boats floated down this river...smile...

When we were coming home I noticed these clouds..so pretty..... just like a wall of clouds.

When we got home I spotted this cute bunny out in our back yard. It looks like a little one, doesn't it? It was taking a bath...kind of like a cat...you know how they lick and clean themselves up? Then it settled over by the tree and I couldn't hardly see it...it just blended in with the color of the tree. Aren't God's creatures amazing??

I had an e-mail from my friend Pat and she was telling me about this great idea she read about. I'm sure everyone will appreciate this one. She saw something interesting on Cook's Country--instead of boiling pasta for, for instance 15 minutes, they said you could bring a kettle of water to a boil with a lid, pop in the pasta, take the kettle from the hot burner and let it sit covered for the same 15 minutes and the pasta would be done--you really don't have to actively boil it for that time, putting all of that humidity into the house. What about you..do you have any time saving ideas?

I hope you had a blessed day....

To rest in the shade of the tree....

Yesterday after we got home, Tom went out and mowed the yard! It was warm, but there was quite a breeze, so that helped to keep him somewhat cool... First thing he got the riding mower out, and as he was about to mow the belt broke! So...he got the regular mower out and walked the whole yard! He carried his bottle of Gaterade, and sipped on it the whole time he was mowing. It worked too...there were no leg cramps last night..yeah!!!!!!!!!!!! Last week after he mowed, that is what happened, in the evening he went to stand up and the leg cramps set in...he couldn't even stand!!! (We were a site to draw to...smile...) I got him some of his quinine pills and that really helped!!

Our resident rabbit was enjoying the fresh cut grass... Doesn't he look like he is enjoying the coolness of the grass and the shade of the tree?? Remember the days when we were young and we too enjoyed times like these??

Today Tom was busy, first taking Rusty to the groomers...for a much needed bath. Rusty knew something was going on early this morning...when he heard Tom bring up the pickup..smile...'too smart'....ha... Then he went to the Doctor to have his protime checked, then stopped at the store for some specials they were having!!! Oh yes, strawberries, raspberries and sweetcorn! I told him I was going to make him a pie!! Well, as most of you know I'm having some health issues and can't stand very long...so I thought I'd make this quick and easy one!!! My sister in law introduced me to this recipe many....years ago. However, then I used a glaze that was in a box..like jello, but we choose to use this quick and easy kind (already prepared) glaze..and yes, it is as good as it looks!!! smile...

Our temperatures were ''hot'' here this afternoon (87 degrees) and as I looked out the window I noticed this robin sitting in the shade of the wheelbarrow, and was panting to keep cool. (Even though Tom has both bird baths full of fresh water...)

I feel a little better today and slept good last night (that always helps) and tomorrow weather permitting we will be heading back to therapy and we'll see how that goes. I will be off the prednisone Sunday, so hope this will be the cure for me! Thank you so much for your wonderful prayers; they are truly appreciated...

What will you be doing this weekend?? Would love to hear what is on your agenda??

Blessings...

"The Many Thoughts of Grace"

Look what I saw??

Isn't he cute??? smile..........

It was so funny...I looked out the door the other evening and thought..."what is that in the neighbors yard"? So I zoomed in and look what I saw??? Floppy eared bunny rabbit!! Doesn't it look 'funny'?? One ear down and one ear up!!! smile...

We had a little lettuce from our bowl today and put it on our hamburger for lunch.. yummmm I am so glad I picked that up yesterday!! Even Linda (Stubbs) from Prairie Flower Farm said she wishes she could hop, skip or jump up here to get one...smile... I wish I could buy one for everyone....smile... It is just so handy...want a little salad?? just pick a little from the bowl and more will grow!

Tomorrow, I finally will go to therapy and hopefully they will get my left leg straightened out and then maybe I'll be without pain and will be able to sleep good again.. please remember me in your prayers! (thank you...ahead of time!)

Thanks everyone who let me know about what you are and have been planting in your gardens...smile....

Bless all of you...
