Winter in Huntsville, AL

I hope you've had an amazing Valentines Day!!

Now, to the title of my blog! Our granddaughter posted these photos from this last snow storm down there! She loves the snow, so enjoyed getting out and taking these photos!!

Since she knew it wouldn't last very long, she decided to get out and enjoy everything about a snow storm...smile.. By her boots you can see how much snow they got! I believe they just might have enjoyed scrapping the snow off their vehicles...ha...ha. They even made snow cream.. She said it was Amaz-ing... Have you ever made it?? I haven't, but it sounds like fun and yummy! BUT now here is the best part of all, she made a snow angel..did you ever make them? I loved doing this... (my Mom would be in the kitchen, looking out the window, watching me make them...smile... I especially loved that part of the fun!)

Now look at this beautiful Snow Lady...she is so pretty! I bet they were sad when it warmed up and the sun melted her...

It seems our world has turned upside down...down south has all this snow, ice and cold temps. We had some cool temps today, but for the following week, it's to be in the 50's! Now, what kind of Iowan doesn't love these kind of temps in February!! smile...

Happy weekend, happy Valentine's Day!!

Blessings,
Gert

Happy Valentine's Day!

"To love another person is to see the face of God!"

I hope this finds you having a blessed fun day!

Last night we went to our monthly potluck. As always it was wonderful food, (and oh..so many luscious desserts!) We had a good crowd and so much visiting going on! The weather was really nice for this time of the year...I captured this photo when we left...if you look closely you'll see the stars in the sky!! ...smile

This morning when we woke up, Tom said there was a doe going between our house and the neighbors. Pretty soon he looked out back and saw all these deer in the neighbors yard...eating some old pumpkins. I feel so sorry for them, they are hungry and eating anything they can find.

When we headed out this morning...I spotted this shot! The sun trying to break through the clouds...so pretty! "The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands."

Another pretty shot on our way to the doctors today.

I have to share this photo, this guy stands in this very spot all year long. When it's cold, when it's hot!!! He's advertising for Little Ceasars pizza!! They even interviewed him on TV one time!!

Our Christmas cactus is blooming like crazy again!! Tom bought this for me years ago and after the first year, it stopped blooming...for a long time. Then one year, it started blooming again and it hasn't stopped since. smile... I hope you had a beautiful Valentines day!!!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Here is our Valentine's gift to each other...smile... The Humane Society sells these apples each Valentines day! They are covered with carmel..chocolate, white chocolate and other goodies!! We've eaten half of it...so have the other half for another day...smile...

Our granddaughter posted this on Facebook... Look at the flowers her boyfriend gave her... I love the 'green' flowers...who doesn't like money?? smile... She was so glad to have the flowers and the money...lol

This is what we woke up to this morning! Pretty...but soon it would melt...smile... Not all but some of it.

Blessings to all of you.........

Busy time....

Wednesday I was busy making some Valentine cards. I used my friends Cricket machine to cut these out. Then I arranged them and pasted them on the cards. I love to do this kind of thing. Next year, maybe I'll start sooner and glitter them up etc!! smile... Last night, I spent the night..addressing the cards and writing letters and notes to my friends. smile....

Today when we came home from getting our taxes done, I saw this woodpecker swinging and swaying away on the feeder. Our temperatures were very cold and that wind made it feel like below zero temps. brrrr... But we have to remember this is February...yeah!!!

Tonight, the news channel put our sunrise photo we took last week on as their Facebook Photo of the Day..smile... I told Tom...my son Randy called to tell me to get a picture of that beautiful sunrise...so I sent Tom out on the back porch and he snapped the photo! I sent it into the TV station (of course with my e mail) so I got credit for it....lol

Here is an idea I thought I'd share with you... I use Gold Bond healing lotion everyday. I buy the product with the pump, so when the pump stops working, I think...wow the bottle still feels heavy.. so Tom says, I'll cut it open and scoop it out and save it in a different container. So look at this...amazing...how much most people would throw away!! Do you have this same problem?? If so...what do you do??

Blessings...and good night.......

"HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY"

Don't you just love this happy couple?? smile... I had forgot all about this picture until today.  A friend had created this for me years ago... We hope you all have had a blessed day and were able to spend time with your loved ones...  We didn't do too much, but yesterday at our Valentine's Potluck..we had lots of wonderful 'loved' prepared food. And were served "German Chocolate Cake" coffee!!!! It was sooo good, the aroma itself was enough for me....smile....

I was surprised when I saw the outline of the moon in the sky today.. pretty huh???

Baking and Grilling.......

Today I woke up full of energy and an empty cookie jar...smile.. This week when we were at Sam's Club I saw these Craisins and remembered just how good they are to snack on!! Then when I got home and read the recipes on the back of the package, the cookies..caught my eye!! smile... of course you all know 'I love cookies'...I've even labeled myself as a "Cookie Monster"...smile... I was busy baking cookies..with Tom's help of course. I noticed when I was mixing the dough that my mixer wasn't working right... we discovered the mixer blades were bent. Later I will tell you what happened to them... Anyway...sounds like I will have to get a new one!!  Anyone have any suggestions?

Here is the recipe:

Oatmeal Cranberry White Chocolate Chunk Cookies

2/3 cup butter or margarine, softened
2/3 cup brown sugar
2 large eggs
1 ½ cups old-fashioned oats
1 ½ cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
1 ¼ cups Craisins Dried Cranberries
2/3 cup white chocolate chunks or chips

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Using an electric mixer, beat butter or margarine and sugar together in a medium mixing bowl until light and fluffy. Add eggs, mixing well. Combine oats, flour, baking soda, and salt in a separate mixing bowl. Add to butter mixture in several additions mixing well after each addition. Stir in dried cranberries and white chocolate chunks or chips. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on wire rack. Makes approximately 2 ½ dozen cookies.

As I said Tom decided to grill out today!! And it smelled and tasted amazing!!!! It has been quite awhile since he has been able to wade through the snow to get to his grill on the deck!!! smile.... But with such a warm day today..42 degrees (yeah!) it was perfect for grilling..

And since I had the oven running baking those cookies, then Tom making those yummy sweet potato fries, we have even had the door and window open and oh my does that fresh air smell soooo good. You know what nasty cold weather we've had these last few weeks it's hard to believe having a day like today...smile...

And then Tom left and came home with these beautiful flowers...for me for Valentine's day!! Aren't they just gorgeous??? Oh yes, did I tell you how amazing he is??? Smile.......

I had ordered one of these Valentine's apples (from the Animal Shelter) for Tom...we picked it up yesterday... so  now we are sharing our gifts...the flowers and the apple!!

How about you, what are you doing for Valentine's day??  Tell me please...I want to hear!!

What an Exhilarating Day...

After our last snow storm Tom removed all the snow, and it turned out our 20 year old snow blower had some major issues and we discovered it was time for a new one!! So Tom found just the right one and it was delivered today!!! So now we are just sure this is the end of winter...ha Tom says that is okay...but I know secretly he wants it to snow so he can try out his 'new' machine...smile...

And then it was off to my Red Hat luncheon with my girlfriends.. (Check out my owl pin that out granddaughter made me for my birthday...) What a fun day (as always!)..we chit chat, laugh, eat, play a little music (with our kazoos), wish our birthday ladies "happy birthday", exchange Valentine's and meet new friends!! So as you can imagine...I am 'tired'..now that is a 'good' tired but still tired. smile...

Our friend Erica who is due with her first baby, (little girl) needs prayers as the Dr. says he heard an irregular heartbeat.. so I would appreciate it if you could add them to your prayers. I will keep you informed on how they are doing.

Hope you are ready for a fun and restful weekend.

Valentine's Day memory...

Valentine’s day use to be so special when I was a child in school. My favorite memory was when I was in 1st or 2nd grade, we made a valentine mailbox out of a shoe box. It was so pretty and everyone put a Valentine in it….I couldn’t wait till Valentine’s Day to get all of my Valentine mail, so I went to bed very early on the 13th of February, so Valentine’s day would hurry up and come. And it was worth the wait!! I have always loved to get mail and I believe it started with this school party.

Flowers & Hawks

Today was a grand day for shopping!! They are predicting *snow* again for this weekend so we decided it would be good to go shopping! So off to WalMart we went! When we entered the store they had a whole line of stuffed Valentine bears which of course I love--but definatly don't need, so on to the Valentine candy! We debated on which 'pretty' box to get, then decided we really didn't need that either! So we headed off down the aisles and there were some of the most gorgeous flowers I ever saw and they had a big sign above them $3.00, I thought "can this be?" Tom noticed the price said $10.00 so we asked why the sign said $3.00 and they were marked $10.00?? Well..........the vases that were hidden under the flowers were $3.00 and the flowers were marked $10.00 off to the side. However.............it really didn't matter to me, I WANTED THOSE FLOWERS!! (ha) And of course as you can see I got them! And now each time I look at them I think of Spring! And you know what that does to a *snowy* day!!

After we got home Tom noticed we had a hawk down in our back yard, sitting in between our lilac bushes. We watched him off and on for several hours, Tom thought maybe he was hurt and couldn't fly. So we called the Animal control and asked if they took care of wild birds that are hurt? They advised us to continue to watch the bird and call them back if it didn't fly away on it's own. As we watched it, we noticed it looked like it was eating something. Tom walked down to check it out and see if it was really hurt and as soon as he got somewhat close..it flew away!!! It must have found a good hunting ground and Tom messed it up for him by scaring him off!! All things are done in the name of love...whether it be flowers or birds!!

First day of February!

We were so hoping February would bring a beginning 'without' moisture! However, we are in the 'snowglobe' again! Chef Tom made a chicken/cheese soup which was perfect for this kind of a day! It was a lazy day for me since I took my shot last night. Tomorrow will be a more productive one!
