Went for a Walk

Oh, my goodness...look what I saw today! Eeeeks...  It's way too early to be seeing the leaves starting to change! What is going on?? My SIL said to me this morning...when your ready to change your decorations for the seasons...I have that Fall scarecrow you can use. I thought...please let me finish enjoying summer...lol And then to see this, guess I'm not sure if it's still summer..smile..

I told Tom this morning, lets go for a 'short' walk across the street. Rusty and him can walk on up the block, while I sit at the end and watch them. It would be good for me to go for a 'very short' walk and get some fresh air. The longer walk would be wonderful for Rusty and Tom. By the time we got going it was around 11 a.m. and it was getting hot and muggy! So, tomorrow we'll leave earlier, before it warms up... smile... While I was waiting for Tom and Rusty to come back, I took these photos. The one of the leaves and of these beautiful sedum. So pretty draping off and through the rocks.

I read this in the paper "What sunshine is to flowers, smiles are to humanity. These are but trifles, to be sure; but scattered along life's pathway, the good they do is inconceivable." Joseph Addison English writer.

It reminded me of what happened in the doctors office the other day. My SIL and I were sitting there and several people would walk by. I would smile at them and immediately they would smile back. I told my SIL about it, and sure enough the next nurse who walked towards us (not looking too happy) and I smiled at her and she smiled back!!! It does work...have you ever noticed how pretty people are when they smile??? Just think...it's a gift, it's free and you can give it to everyone!!!

So, with that here is a big smile for you!!!

How was your weekend?

Sure hope you're feeling refreshed after your long weekend! Or not too tired or sore from it...lol  I remember the days of camping and fishing etc. over the holidays...and then back to work on Monday! Wow, how did we do it?? And enjoy it?? ha..ha.... Friday as I told you in my previous post, we went for a walk...well when we were out and about I spotted these beautiful lilies. Aren't they pretty? Mine haven't bloomed yet this year. Hopefully, they will be okay. (We had a really hard winter...)

Then I spotted these daisies among weeds and other things. Both of these houses are empty and yet these pretty flowers keep coming back, even though their unattended. (This lady will be home soon, I hope, as I've always loved seeing her little flower garden.)  The walk was a little much for me, I've been sore for the last couple days..sad... But I've been taking it easy so it will be fine!

Speaking of taking it easy...Saturday and Sunday were so HOT (our heat index yesterday was 105 degrees,so...I think getting under this little water fall would feel really good...ha...ha..) We actually watched a couple movies...one being the Son of God, it was really good. The other was Olympus Down..it too was good only in a different way. Tomorrow will be a busy one, Tom and I both go to the doctor for some regular tests. Also, we're all getting better with our colds... (thank goodness)

Good night......

Best Laid Plans...

How things change from one day to the next! Yesterday was a perfect warm day...today was windy and cold. We went from running the air-conditioner to running the furnace...smile... Only in Iowa in the springtime...smile... Here is what I saw out our window this morning http://youtu.be/L3J8t19-dv0

Tom went out and picked these Lily of the Valley's for me today...smile... I love them and they smell so lovely!
We were so busy today....(great day to be busy inside!)... Our granddaughter Ashley designed our logo for our MS Walk t-shirts again this year and I printed them and Tom ironed them on the t-shirts! I messed up a couple of shirts right off the bat...trying to remember how to do it...smile...
Then finally...we got it under control and were busy making the XLG (extra large) shirts! Then it was time to start on the L (large) ones...after I took one out of the package...I realized it was really....small...looking closer..I noticed the size was a Youth size "NOT" an adult size...sad.... We special ordered these so had to call and see if we can return them and get the right size 'before' the walk! Which we will be able to do...(thank goodness..) So next week, we'll have out iron press heating up again and doing more shirts...smile... But the good part is that we started these today, so will have time to correct this mistake well before the walk...

Hope you had a wonderful day and are in for a good weekend!

Happy St. Paddy's Day...

On St. Patrick's Day, I always think of 'four leaf' clovers! Just the thought that this one has been in my Mom's diary for some 76 years! Isn't that amazing?? It did break apart in some ways, but still....76 years...smile...

I told you yesterday, I'd share with you the latest and newest thing in gardening...and it is called "Fairy Gardens".. they are small and fit in items such as this box.. cute....

Today, I thought I'd show you some aprons I found at the Senior Center the other day. To me, this was so exciting! This apron so reminded me of my Mom. Maybe the checks, but definitely the feel of the material. It's old, and has been washed, ironed and mended over the years...smile...

And then this one, I thought was unique..quilted pieces making an apron, with a pocket! The cool thing is it's reversible...the back side it solid blue (like the apron strings) of course with a pocket. smile.... It too...has been washed and is old! I'm going back up there next week and see if there are more of them. smile...

One box of Angel Food cake mix and one of any other cake mix.

Here is a recipe I found over at Berries and More...(be sure and go over and check her blog out!)...

3 - 2 - 1 CAKE
1 box angel food cake mix
1 box any other flavor cake mix

Combine these two cake mixes until well blended.
Measure: three tablespoons of the blended mix
two tablespoons of water
Mix them well in the ramekin.
Cook in the microwave for 1 minute at high power.

Mix the cake mixes in zip lock bag.

Put mix and water in ramekin and stir.

Bake for one minute on high.
How easy...and it tastes so yummy!! You can add Cool Whip on top but we ate them without. Try it... so simple, easy and quick! Just store it in the cupboard for when you want or need a quick dessert!

We went for a walk this afternoon, as it was 85 degrees! Can you believe it?? Especially, since it's only March!! I hope you are having a blessed weekend!!

Beautiful Day....

This is how our day started out...fresh blueberries in our oatmeal!! They were so good, you'd bite into them and they'd pop! Yumm..they were amazing!

And like I told you a basket of fruit on the table is so inviting!

I looked out the window this morning and saw Mama Cardinal...isn't she pretty???

Tom was busy vacing up the pork chops and pork ribs today that we bought at Sam's yesterday. Do you use a Food Saver to vac your meats etc?

After lunch with the weather being so nice..we went for a short walk up the street and back. As we walked by our neighbors house, we spotted their cat watching Rusty as he trotted by! Look at that face! smile...

We saw another neighbor boy walking his dogs! Aren't these Yorkie's cute??? (Actually we had put Rusty in the house and were on our way in also, when we spotted our neighbor with his puppies...smile...) I don't think Rusty would have thought they were as cute as we did...hee hee!

Just thought I'd share another picture of that Studebaker that Tom loved! smile... It sounds like most of you or your husbands..had  a favorite old car! Aren't memories great???

Just another day in the city....

Our morning skies have been absolutely beautiful  recently... I was about to head down to exercise when I spotted this, so just had to snap a shot first...lol Isn't it just amazing how each day is fresh and new...like a clean slate?

As I peaked out the window today, I saw our squirrel perched on a branch out in the yard! Isn't he fat?? Guess he's already for the snow and cold...smile....

It was windy today, but we did get out and make a short walk up the block! I almost opted out, as we had had our dinner and were watching a Hallmark movie...but Tom gave me a little nudge and I thought I can't NOT do it on a nice day like today! smile.... Afterwards I was soooo glad. Tomorrow, we're having Tom's sister here for lunch...and to play some cards...smile... that should be fun!!! Tom made a salad and I made a pie...tonight. Tomorrow...I will share the recipe for the pie with you, if it's as yummy as it looks and sounds!

Blessings....and see you tomorrow...the last day of 2011!!!

Went for a Walk

Our weather was wonderfully warm today!!! So...we just had to go for a walk...smile...

I did notice a little snow that was leftover...but it was rapidly melting as you can see....smile...

Of course Rusty had to visit our local fire hydrant...smile... Seriously...he had a wonderful time, if it was up to him he'd go for a walk several times a day..lol Tomorrow it's to be somewhat cooler, but maybe we could just walk up the block and back..a little fresh air and a little exercise!!! smile...  New Years Resolution?? Maybe...smile... How about you??? Do you have any resolutions you are thinking about???

SONday, a day of rest!!

Our weather was lovely today, especially for a walk! I wore my new brace and it was like not having one on, as it was light as a feather....why haven't I worn it before??? Good question....... smile...

See how green this tree is?? Seems funny while all the other trees are loosing their leaves and their color, this tree doesn't seem to have changed much. Have you seen one like this one?? We use to call them "cigar trees"..smile...I know that is not the correct name...but ever since Tom or I were young this is what they were called...smile...

Then as I looked out the window this is what I saw...smile... So the robins are still here!! do you still have them where you live??

I hope you had a wonderful SONday...we had company and Tom made his famous mushroom soup, which we had with some french bread (yumm) and of course some of his leftover birthday cake!!! smile... Then we just rested and relaxed the rest of the day...

I hope your day was blessed and you were able to enjoy some of God's beauty today.....

Another Beautiful Day...

We arose early this morning, it was dark outside..as our days are growing shorter, heading into the fall season.

Then as the day went by..Rusty and I both grew restless, so Rusty hopped on his kennel...waiting for Tom to put his walking collar on...then he jumps off the kennel and headed off for his daily walk! smile...

I follow behind and stop along the way to take pictures of the flowers in their late stages of going to seed...sad...

This one looks cool 'I think' and yet sad....as it goes to seed....

I'm so thankful our neighbor doesn't mind me stopping in front of her house, sitting on my walker...taking pictures of her flowers....smile...

Then we came home and I snapped this one of one of our flowers....smile....

It was so nice today, I Skyped with daughter Brenda and we had a wonderful visit! Sounds like they are going to go over to the granddaughters in Alabama for a visit this week! Granddaughter Amanda, who is a senior in high school is on fall break this week, so perfect time for the family to be all together! smile.. I hope they Skype when their over there...so we can visit with all of them!!

How is your week going?

Free..Taco Tuesday...& a Walk...

We went for a walk this lovely 74 degree day! The winds were blowing...but that just made it feel cooler. smile... This was my kind of weather! I didn't walk too far but it was farther than the last time..smile...

I spotted this little bee on some sedum in the sunlight! There were quite a few plants, but they sure don't like the shade! smile...

And then a fly joined in! Aren't those sedums pretty?? Hard to believe they really are tiny buds...but when you get a close up of them...they look amazing and beautiful! smile....

I thought these grasses are so pretty also.. they are so graceful when their blowing in the wind...smile...

And then there was this grasshopper locked on the wall! Isn't it unique? Just another of God's miraculous creatures!! smile...

And then a shot of the ever changing colors of our neighbors tree..smile... And now to the "free" Taco Tuesday..smile.. Last Tuesday we got tacos, potato ole and a churrio--they were terrible..the tacos were uneatable...they were so greasey it was dripping out of them and the potatoes were so salty, they too were uneatable. I called the manager just to let them know and to see if there were other complaints, she offered to replace the order and she mentioned that we could ask for "light" salt on the potatoes and see if that helped. Well, it did, they really tasted much better and the taco's were great! However, they were too filling for me, so in the future I will eat less  ...smile...

How is your weather? Good we hope!!! Blessings...
