The Ups and Downs of Life

This is most definitely an "up"! Tom spotted this Northern Flicker at the bird feeder and bath, today. They really are a pretty bird. (Tom needs to put a few pennies in the bird bath. Did you know that keeps the algae under control??)

This is most definitely an UP...smile.. Yesterday I looked out our window and spotted something 'yellow'.. (you know me and yellow!) Oh my gosh, I was so excited! We went down and I had to go outside to check them out. Look, aren't these little pansies adorable? They are all volunteer.

I know you can't really see them...but there are so many of them, in among the rocks. Remember the basket of pansies I had hanging there last year? These are from them.

Aww look...they are blooming everywhere! This has to be a gift from God!!

Now this is the DOWN. We went out to get a bite to eat today, and were heading home...and BANG! A lady pulled out and hit us. It was a long day, waiting for the police. Finally they came and gave the lady a ticket for running a stop sign. Ugggg.. My shoulders and back are sore tonight. I hope it will be better tomorrow.

I hope you're having an UP week.

Update

It was so cold today that....... (I know that is just a saying, but...) it really was cold, this poor Nuthatch was huddled down beside a tire on the patio.

Look at our poor little squirrel, he was standing way down in the yard looking all bundle up!

We had four Northern Flickers in our yard at one time. These two were in the tree...

While one was down on the shed...

And another one was in the lilac tree.

Then they hit the suet feeders....one at a time.

Today, we went to the doctor on Tom's wrist. He has tendonitis, so he got a shot and a brace. Hopefully, this will get the pain under control.

Tomorrow, Tom's heart doctor rescheduled his appointment until next week. So, will keep you updated on that appointment too. Appreciate your continued prayers for good results. (Thank you...)

Yes, it is cold here, but nothing compared to other parts of the country. My prayers are with everyone on the east coast. Especially Boston. (I can't imagine...)

Winter is Back

Yesterday, Tom spotted our local Northern Flicker at the feeder. Aren't they gorgeous?? God creates such beautiful creatures!

We went over the river yesterday when we went to a doctors appointment. Looks pretty darn cold doesn't it? Well, it was!!! We did get a little snow, but not to much. (thank goodness.)

Today, our weather really improved. It was almost 50 degrees, compared to the 20 for a high yesterday!! Again, we went to the doctor today, ate at Culver's (do you have one near you?) and got Tom's hair cut! So, it was busy and my hip is a little sore again tonight. I think when I'm out and about and walk around, it causes my syaticia nerve to act up. sad...

When we got home ...we saw this little squirrel scurrying across the driveway and up the tree..smile.. He sat up there, like 'what are you looking at'? lol

What are your plans for Valentine's Day?? Ours will be staying inside our warm house!! smile..

Focus

This morning we spotted this Northern Flicker in the tree....then he flew down onto the suet! We were just sitting here jibber jabbering away when Tom said...look.............

And there was another one...waiting it's turn to get to the feeder! This was the first time I've seen two of them. Normally all I ever see is one. So, to me that was exciting!! We were just so busy watching the back patio looking for other birds!!

However, this was all we saw...sparrows.... ha...ha... So, we spent the next hour or more, just visiting. Isn't it wonderful to just take 'time' and spend it with those we love?

A little later Tom was walking down the hall and he said "Oh my God  gosh!" look out there.... I said 'what?'.....look at all those turkeys in the neighbors yard!  He said give me your camera...! smile...

I gave him my camera, and 'made' him put his coat on, as we were having 20 to 30 below wind chills. brrr... But he was quite the trooper... he stood out there in the freezing cold to capture  these photos!!! smile... And look, doesn't it seem like they want to knock on his door??? lol

It made me think...how we 'focus' on something, not even thinking or realizing there maybe something else we are missing! Had we sat there all day 'focusing' on our back patio, we'd have missed these funny turkeys!' We had not seen them for a long time. Kind of like the deer, same thing we didn't know what happened to them either...until the other morning (early) Tom let Rusty out, and he started to bark like crazy. There were some deer out in the yard and he was telling them to 'get out of here!!' smile...

My SIL had good news today on her MRI's, it is an issue that can be corrected by medication, not cancerous! We'll find out more tomorrow. Thank you for your prayers...

Blessings,
Gert
