Tears, Trials and Puppy's Love

"Sunrise one early morning"
It seems that a day doesn't go by that I don't shed a few or several tears. There are many things that remind me of Tom and how much I miss him. And so often it doesn't seem like he's really gone. Mixed emotions... I'm so thankful for all your wonderful comments, those of you who are praying for me, and those who have and are suffering a loss also. I'm trying my best to continue on with little things that I routinely do. And before I know it another day has gone by. I've started to read a little more, shutting the noise of the TV off and being whisked away into another world. But......those lonely thoughts creep into my mind anyway. I've been reading Susan Branch's The Fairytale Girl. She was writing about growing a garden, and putting this herb with that vegetable or planting flowers--and suddenly my thoughts turned to Tom. He loved his garden and bringing in his "first" tomato of the season...just for me to eat.. (tears) And for flowers he planted which will bloom for years to come..

Cardinal
Trials....oh yes, we all have them don't we?? The first of the week, I had a doctors appointment with a foot doctor. (I have a fungus laden toenail!!) So, I head out to the garage, go to get in the van and my battery is dead!!! UGGGG... So, I come back in the house and call Triple A and cancel my appointment. (I knew by the time they got here and I found out what was wrong, I'd never make it to see him.) Turned out, they jump started it and the dome lights were on. I let it run and the next day my son stopped by and it started 'no problem'.

The next morning, I headed out to run an errand and guess what? Again, it wouldn't start. There was however, enough juice to open the back door to put my walker in.. Once again, I called Triple A and also my son. When we were talking I realized without a battery I couldn't open the back door, where my walker was..uggg So...bless his heart...he came over to help me out (literally..) He just pulled on the door and manually opened it. The dome light was on again, thus running the battery down. Still trying to figure out what is going on with it.

"Tubby Squirrel is Back"
Puppy love...that is the same as the name Rusty. He is such a good boy. Normally he has a schedule of what he eats and when he wants out etc. But the other day, he drove me crazy...lol Out, then In..again and again. Then yesterday, he was starving (I finally figured it out). He had 3 bowls of food!! Yikes..I know.. Then I thought...well some days I'm like that..just eat all day long. ha!

We think there was a kitty running around on our deck.

We woke up yesterday morning to this!!! Looked like a lot, but it was gone by today. Our temperatures have been so lovely. Tomorrow it's to be 64 degrees!! Whoo-Hoo!! What's your weather like??

Until I blog again....

Neighborly Squirrels

I came home one day from the nursing home, only to find one of our friendly squirrels munching away on the neighbors pumpkins...

First, he was posing for me as I drove into the driveway....then I heard a sound..

And he did too...it was my son pulling up.

So he jumped down on the ground and hid behind the hay bales...lol

I guess he figured he'd eat a few seeds while he waited for the stranger to leave....smile..

I did this post some time ago, thinking I'd use it one night when I was too tired to write something. Well, as it seems I'm always too tired, even to post. (forgive me). Life continues to be hectic, I go to see Tom everyday and that pretty much takes care of my day. I'm not fast anymore, so mornings zip by as I have my coffee, eat a bite, take my many-many pills...get dressed and head off for the day. When I get home, and take care of Rusty..watch (sometimes) the news...I'm ready for a Hallmark (feel good) movie. Then it's time for bed. smile... [Have you ever seen the movie Groundhog Day?? Well, it sounds like me..lol]

I will write more of this story, (I wanted to say sad story) but as long as we  still have life and love, it can't be called a 'sad' story.

Blessings to your day...

Just a Quick Post

Thought I'd share a picture of our incredible snow storm.. Yesterday we got over 7 inches of snow! It was and is a winter wonderland out there. I took a picture this picture (it was on the news channel last night!) Anyway, I thought, the only thing missing was having a cardinal in the picture...smile..

And look there he is...hard to see I know but he sat there for a long time this morning!!

Also thought you'd get a laugh out of our little squirrel digging in the snow trying (and succeeding) to get some seeds from the seed pan that was buried in the snow...

I had to stay home for the last two days, and really missed being with my Tom. Things are not improving for him, so would really appreciate your prayers and good thoughts for this amazing man.

God's Blessings

Yesterday I was out on the deck, I spotted this little squirrel running around the tree! When he spotted us, he froze in this position! Funny.............

I had been down stairs stretching and exercising, so I thought we'd step out and see what was blooming in our backyard!! Here is that bush I showed you earlier. Still not sure what it is, only that it's pretty and smells so sweet!!!

I only had my cell phone with me so took these photos with it! I was so excited to see all these volunteer pansies. They are so pretty!
Remember last year, when we had these gorgeous hanging baskets?? Well, they dropped lots of seeds I guess as that is where my volunteer ones came from..smile...

Isn't it surprising how they just flourish in among the rocks??

 Their just everywhere...

I also noticed our yucca plant will have blooms on it this year! They are so pretty. Do you have one? Once it starts to bloom, I hope to get out there with my 'camera' and photograph it!!

Hope you're looking forward to a nice weekend!! I'd appreciate some prayers or good vibes that our weather stays good tomorrow. We're having our South Bottom's reunion dinner tomorrow night...than a potluck dinner Sunday!!! Their saying rain and storms..sad..

Update

It was so cold today that....... (I know that is just a saying, but...) it really was cold, this poor Nuthatch was huddled down beside a tire on the patio.

Look at our poor little squirrel, he was standing way down in the yard looking all bundle up!

We had four Northern Flickers in our yard at one time. These two were in the tree...

While one was down on the shed...

And another one was in the lilac tree.

Then they hit the suet feeders....one at a time.

Today, we went to the doctor on Tom's wrist. He has tendonitis, so he got a shot and a brace. Hopefully, this will get the pain under control.

Tomorrow, Tom's heart doctor rescheduled his appointment until next week. So, will keep you updated on that appointment too. Appreciate your continued prayers for good results. (Thank you...)

Yes, it is cold here, but nothing compared to other parts of the country. My prayers are with everyone on the east coast. Especially Boston. (I can't imagine...)

Did You Have A Stormy Valentines Day or a Sunny One??

I know that was a terrible title to this post...lol I just wanted to share these photos. I know of course everyone had a lovely Valentines day, whether you ate out, got flowers or just spent time with your favorite love. Or maybe just enjoyed your Saturday...smile.... My granddaughter asked if we were going to do something exciting. I said, 'do you call our tax man coming to the house' exciting?? ha...ha...

I love playing with photos in PicMonkey. This was the original photo...wispy clouds..

This was one of the 'cold' days, as we crossed the river. It was a blustery one, winds (see the flag?) and of course the ice was floating down the river...

We saw this little squirrel climbing around the suet feeder. They are such acrobats I can hardly believe how they get around and eat upside down...smile...

Another one of our sitings when we were out and about... the turkeys just walk across the street and expect the cars to stop for them..smile..

And we spotted this boy practicing his soccer game! (I was surprised when I saw, I caught the ball in mid air!!)

Yep, one day freezing, next day so nice you can be outside without a coat. Our roller coaster weather.

This week again will be busy.. appointments for all of us. I have to have a mammogram tomorrow. That should be fun...lol NOT... Each day I will let you know how it goes..smile.. Keep Tom in your prayers for good news on his heart and he also has to see an Ortho surgeon on his wrist. (See I told you we will be busy all week....)

Due to the weather and my hip hurting we weren't able to go the twins birthday party today. I'm sad, as I would have loved to have seen them. They are so adorable and growing like crazy..

Blessings to your week.

Winter is Back

Yesterday, Tom spotted our local Northern Flicker at the feeder. Aren't they gorgeous?? God creates such beautiful creatures!

We went over the river yesterday when we went to a doctors appointment. Looks pretty darn cold doesn't it? Well, it was!!! We did get a little snow, but not to much. (thank goodness.)

Today, our weather really improved. It was almost 50 degrees, compared to the 20 for a high yesterday!! Again, we went to the doctor today, ate at Culver's (do you have one near you?) and got Tom's hair cut! So, it was busy and my hip is a little sore again tonight. I think when I'm out and about and walk around, it causes my syaticia nerve to act up. sad...

When we got home ...we saw this little squirrel scurrying across the driveway and up the tree..smile.. He sat up there, like 'what are you looking at'? lol

What are your plans for Valentine's Day?? Ours will be staying inside our warm house!! smile..

The Weather Outside is Frightful, the Fire Insides Delightful

We made "Three Bean Soup" today. When I was eating it, I told Tom, 'be careful it's hot!' And it's spicy hot too!' smile... Just what we needed on a cold blustery  day...

Three Bean Soup
by Gert StevensRW

1 large onion, chopped
1 medium green pepper, chopped
4 garlic cloves, minced
2 tsp. olive or canola oil
1 can (16 oz) kidney beans, rinsed and drained
1 can (16 oz) fat-free refried beans
1 can (16 oz) black beans, rinsed and drained
1 can (14 1/2 oz) reduced-sodium chicken broth
1 can (14 1/2 oz) stewed tomatoes, cut up
3/4 Cup salsa
2 tsp. chili powder
1/2 tsp. pepper
1/4 tsp. ground cumin

In large saucepan, sauté the onion, green pepper and garlic in oil until tender. Add the remaining ingredients; mix well.
Bring to boil.  Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 10 minutes.  Yield: 8 Servings

We had this little guy out there on the deck the other day. He was cold, as you can see, with his tail wrapped up over his back...

Tuesday, we woke to this beautiful, cold site! (Do you see the smoke coming out of the chimney on the left side of the picture?) Seems you see less and less of them. I still like to see it!!

The temperature was about -3 below. But with the winds it felt like 20 some below zero! Brrrr..

Can you believe when we got to the cancer center, they said it was the wrong day..sad... So...we went out for breakfast. The streets were slick, since we had some snow in the night,  but it was navigable. Anyway...it was really nice to get home where it was warm!! smile...

Today, we were up early and tried it again...smile.. And they took her in like they should have!! Then we came home, where it was nice and warm! smile...

Tuesday when we were heading over for breakfast, I was looking out the window at the wooded area along the road. And guess what I saw! A deer laying down, just watching the cars buzz by. (I'm surprised I saw it as it blended in amongst the trees so well.) I said to them, "where's my camera?"....smile.. Oh, ya, on my lap.. Dahh...I didn't catch a photo of it.. darn.......

By the way, I finally had it on the schedule to go to the Senior Center today for lunch. And guess what! They were closed due to this terrible cold weather!! (They were right to do that though, I'm sure we would not have gone back! Especially, since we had to go later to pick her up.)  I think our temperatures tonight are to get much worse...so we'll just turn up the furnace and snuggle down and sleep in tomorrow (I hope..lol)

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr 'good night'...............
