Good Bye June~Hello July

Yesterday when I left the doctors office, their beautiful 'yellow' flowers caught my eye!! So, I stopped and took a picture. There was still rain drops on their petals.. It was so hard to see what I was actually photographing... That's one of the things I'm not crazy about, with the camera screens..

After a rainy night, the next morning the droplets started falling off of the leaves when a light breeze started blowing. As the sun glisten on these drops, it looked like it was raining again...

This was me trying to take a selfie of Granddaughter Lacey and myself.. (I need more practice...lol) Anyway, Lacey came into town to attend a MS Seminar with me. It was very interesting and a nice day!

This was some of the food that was served...you know me, I love to photograph food...smile.. I had the salmon and risotto, which was amazing. (That was the first time I've ever had risotto...Tom and I always talked about it and said how we'd love to try it! So, it was kind of bittersweet.)

Good news, my sister in law got home from the hospital this week. She seems to be doing okay, I know she very happy to be home!! As was am!

Hope this finds all of you doing well and looking forward to a wonderful 4th of July weekend.

God's Gorgeous Sunset

Tonight I saw this pretty site. I was standing in the doorway looking east and was waiting for Tom to pull up and get me. I thought, boy when I get in the car I'll take a picture of that!!!

Then when we left the parking lot and headed west...I saw why the trees and the buildings on the east looked so pretty. Look at this sunset! Tom said he was glad we didn't have to drive into this sun. It really was terribly bright!!!! (Lucky us we only had about a block heading this way, then we turned north!!) smile..

We attended an MS Seminar tonight. It was very interesting, loved the speaker. We have seen her before and she is really  good! We also saw lots of our friends.

Hope you had a good day too!

Great Seminar and more...

Yesterday our skies in the afternoon were quite overcast and cloudy. The clouds were very pretty, but no matter what setting I put my camera on they didn't look as pretty as they really were.

Last night we had a MS Seminar to go to...just across the river! Not far at all. It started at 6 p.m., so we left home at 5 (remember I said it was just across the bridge..smile..) When we were approaching it..all we saw were cars....all across the bridge...... Yikes! They were working on it..so had it down to a single lane of traffic. But....we got across and headed to the restaurant. The weather was extremely HOT,
and we saw a few boats out on the river, trying to beat the heat!!

They had a small room for us, and we did get there at a decent time. We got a good place to sit at a front table. The waitress came around and bought our drinks. The program coordinator had a problem with her computer. So that kind of slowed down the presentation. They also had about double the people than they expected... The tables had 8 people instead of 6..squeezed together. Then the waitresses came around and gave us our menu's and told us we could order 'anything' we wanted. Now this was really unusual, as they normally have a set menu.. I ordered a "surf and turf".. and Tom ordered a bone in ribeye steak. (one was $45 and one was $50--can you imagine??) So they got all orders, and then 'whoops' they said...they just found out..it had to be anything under $28. smile.. So, that made a smaller choice, but a good one. (And made a lot more sense..) Finally, the doctor started speaking and we got our food. Their kind of like a "lunch and learn" only it's a dinner and learn. smile.. After she spoke, they had an ambassador speaking also. He has been on the drug they spoke about for a couple years and was very happy with it. Finally, we finished eating (btw the salmon was 'amazing'!!) Then they came around with a dessert menu.. (over kill...ha..ha...) Tom got the ice cream sundae (pictured) and I ordered the cheesecake.. (I brought mine home and had it this afternoon...) I will ask my doctor about this pill they were talking about. Sounds too good to be true, no more shots! But I know there are a lot of side effects. So, we'll see...

Goodness, for us it was a late night. On our way home, we spotted the Hard Rock guitar all lit up!! When we finally got home around 9 p.m., we felt we needed to stay up for awhile, to let our food settle..ha.. Since we got up early, I finally was ready to go bed!!

This morning we had to get up early again to take my SIL to get a test. Then we did a little shopping. Nice day, but again very HOT, worse than yesterday! These huge sunflowers were really enjoying the sun today!! They must be about 10 foot tall. We go by them all the time...Tom was finally able to stop, so I could get a photo...smile..

By the way today was our 28th wedding anniversary!!!

Time once again for bed.. Hope you're in for a wonderful weekend!

Night Out at a Seminar

The alarm went off at 6 this morning...we were both sleeping so good! We were tired after a late night! smile.. No..we actually went to a MS Seminar last night. They really had a great speaker, he was very informative and funny!! He had a great sense of humor...don't you just love speakers like that?? There was also a young man who has MS that also spoke. What a nice and positive person he is!!

They serve a meal while you listen to the speakers. Tom choose to have beef tips and I wanted salmon. The food was AMAZING!! And look at that dessert...it was a chocolate cake, with ice cream, whipping cream and a piece of chocolate squiggle on top. It was almost too pretty to eat! (I actually didn't eat very much of it.)  I know, I could say I just went for the food, but I learn something every time I go to these seminars. So, it's always a win..win situation! smile...

When we left the sun was going down, and the temperatures were a little warmer, (I think the wind went down...and that makes a huge difference. smile...)

Today was busy, like I said. Up early..to make an appointment. Then to another one around 11. Tom's CPAC (breathing machine) was making a lot of noise so we had it checked out, and he needed a replacement one. So, we'll see tonight if it helps! Then we went to the grocery store, I wanted to check out the price of oranges, as I want to put some out to see if we can get some Orioles to come and visit! smile.... Have you seen any new birds at your house lately??

Hope you're in for a wonderful weekend... We plan on going to our last 'Fish Fry' until this fall tomorrow night!!

Blessings and good night!

Seminar and Snow..

Last night we went to went to a MS Seminar...the sun was going down as we were heading to the venue.

The speaker was talking about a new drug they have come up with in the form of a pill for MS! I think a lot people were interested, especially since most are now taking shots. At my age, I will stay on the shot I'm on. This is more for those who are first or early diagnosed. They had a wonderful meal, I said to Tom, I hope the food doesn't have MSG in it. So, he talked to the powers that be, so they did the chicken different for me. Tom got the one with the sauce on it, where mine was just plain breaded...the rest was the same. The vegetables and potatoes...and of course the dessert!! Yumm, that was the best part...smile..

Then this morning we woke up to snow, every branch and everything else, was frosted with it!! Soon, the wind came up and all the snow fell to the ground!!

The birds were out in full force...the chick a dee...

And the snow bird....

And our little chicken all full of snow... Kind of pretty, huh? But Tom is paying for it tonight, he went out and shoveled some of the snow, and tonight he has a sore back...sad...

Hope you're in for a blessed SONday...

Blessings,
Gert

How I Love Thee.....

Today was a glorious day!! First my friend Sherry came up and cleaned the house!! She is such a blessing to us! We chatted for awhile, then we went off to stretch and exercise... Afterwards she said "Oh the mail came and here it is along with a package!" Oh my, when I saw it was from Prairie Lights Bookstore in Iowa City...I knew immediately it was Susan's book I had ordered!!  Yes, I pre- ordered her book a long time ago and had received and read that one.  However, I really wanted to have a book signed by her! BUT, soon I realized she was not coming to Sioux City (sad) but she had a book signing in Iowa City, (which was so close yet so far away for me..sad..) I asked Susan, if I ordered a book from them if she would sign it for me when she was there. Of course she said "Yes", just to let them know it for 'you'! When I called them and explained what I wanted and told them what Susan said, they said "oh you talked to her?" lol So, true to her word...look at this lovely signing she did for me! She is such a beautiful lady!!! I told her I will treasure it for-ever...smile.. (Oh you wonder what I'll do with that first book I got??? Christmas is fast approaching...hummm)

Yesterday we went to the doctor for Tom's monthly protime and all was well. Funny...we were close to a WalMart store, so we went to get Tom some peppermint candy (which he loves and has for years...) when I saw them, I told him to buy them all...lol (save us trips to WalMart in the future!! lol ) There really weren't that many, but he did get most of them! hee..hee...

When we came home we stopped and took this picture of our mums! They are so pretty this year! They didn't do well last year due to the drought. So this was exciting to see all those pretty blooms!

Last night we went to a MS Seminar, which was the first one we've gone to I think this year. It was so good to see everyone, and to hear the presentation.

!

Yellow flowers!! or weeds?? ha..ha..  But their still yellow!! Fall truly is in the air, with cooler temps, however today was like a summer day again!! The temps reached 89 degrees with higher dew points, making it kind of muggy. They said on the news tonight, as a history note, that in 1895 it was 101 degrees! Can you imagine??? No air, hard work without any of today's luxuries! Wow, how lucky we are!!! The rest of our week will be more fall like temperatures. What is your weather doing??

Sure hope you're having a great week!! Blessings...

MS Dance and Seminar...

I know this picture has nothing to do with MS or dancing...smile... just "bull riding"...ha..ha! Sweet little Lorelai riding the bull!! Isn't she just the most adorable thing you've ever seen??

Now to the MS Seminar...(boring I know compared to riding the bull with sweet little Lorelai...smile..) Friday evening we attended this seminar, it was very interesting Dr. Parry from Minnesota spoke and he was very informative, plus he had a great sense of humor!!! (Loved his accent as he was from the UK)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9E25X2ffBs&feature=share

And than we walked down the hall and listened to Dr. Dendrite & the Twisted Synapses! As you can hear  Take me to the River, these guys are amazing. This photo does not include the lady singer but you can see her on the video! The lead guitar player, in the black shirt on the farthest right is my MS doctor! We had to laugh, his nurse, told him he was a really good musician, but not to quit his day job...ha..ha... This group does this as a fundraiser for different  charities during the year.

Now here is something so moving...I almost cried. Jay, who has MS and is in a wheel chair, with the help of his wife got up out of his chair and.......

started dancing!!! Isn't this just the neatest thing you've ever heard??? Tom told him he should just throw the wheelchair away...we were so proud of him. But he said.."No, he didn't think that would happen, and that it was a good thing his wife was holding him up"... Bless them.........

This was our Friday night...can you believe we stayed till 9 pm? For us that is a late night out...ha..ha.. We didn't sleep well that night...so Saturday was just a restful day.. This morning was another one of those mornings, so we watched church on TV, but am hoping to be able to go to a church potluck tonight! Maybe, just maybe they'll have a 'hayride', as it's going to be held at the Goodwill Camp (Tom went there when he was a boy living on the South Bottoms..)!! I told Tom, if they do have a hayride, I want to go...smile... How fun would that be???

I hope you're having a blessed SONday and looking forward to a good week!

Strawberry Shortcake...

Last night when we were coming home I took this picture of the sun setting...shimmering off the pond! God knows how to please our appetite for pretty sites. smile... Our weather has cooled down and is just so lovely to be out in it!

I told you we were headed to an MS Seminar last night... Wow...what a dinner they put on! The Seminar was on the new...MS pill, so instead of taking a shot or shots people now can take a pill! Once a day!! However the study on it is new...so it doesn't have a very long track record. (If you know what I mean.) There was a lady who was on the pill and very happy with it who spoke...so it is a good fit for her. The doctor that spoke was very nice and informative about it and said, it's not for everyone...but for those who are interested they should talk to their neurologist and see if it would work for them.

I'm sorry I didn't get a lot of pictures of all the food...the invitation said 'A light meal would be served!' Light? light? goodness I would hate to see what they classify as a heavy meal....lol...  First they had horderves, (now that was a first at one of these seminars)..onion rings, strips of steak, one other thing..plus octopus.. at least that is what Tom thought it was! I ate a couple of these and Tom said they were baby octopus! What do you think??? smile.. And by the way they were wonderful...

The dinner consisted of a dinner salad, then the main course was grilled chicken, mashed potatoes and grilled squash...along with dinner rolls. (You know me...I brought way over half of my chicken and part of Tom's home...) I did eat all my vegetables...they were fantastic by the way!

For dessert they had cheese cake! I told Tom we should just 'share' one due to the fact that we were sooo full. smile... Well, look what 'we' got... Strawberry Poundcake!! Now...this was a surprise to us! Earlier in the day I had called to see if they had MSG in the food they were serving that evening. She said she would be sure my food did not have it in it! (sweet...) In our conversation I told her how we had brought our relatives down for lunch one day when they were here visiting! She asked if everything was satisfactory? Of course I said "Oh yes..." the food was wonderful.. BUT jokingly I told her they had run out of Strawberry Pound cake when we went to order it...smile... (you probably remember me writing about this in my blog when my cousin and her husband were here...) So anyway...instead of cheesecake...here came this 'big' delicious strawberry dessert...smile... Of course others at the table were....like "why did you get 'that' dessert when we got cheesecake???" smile... So I had to explain and sadly leave most of it...as we were sooo full...!!!

When we were leaving we spotted this marvelous bus in the parking lot! You know me, I was taking pictures etc...and pulled up along side of it...and we stopped so I could get another shot...when we heard a horn honk...and I thought there was someone behind us...wanting us to move...when I looked up and saw it was the driver in the bus! smile... I went to take a picture of him and he pulled the shade down...ha Guess he didn't want his picture taken.. But he did smile and wave before the shade went down...

Tonight we're heading out to our friends 25th wedding anniversary party. First they will be renewing their vows before dinner. This should be fun and interesting. "He" is my son's best friend and was his best man, so Randy will be there and "She" and I worked together for 20 some years! So, I'm excited!!!

Hope you're enjoying your weekend..

"The Many Thoughts of Grace"

May 19, 1940: Was windy today. Was rather warm too. Took the baby for a ride in the buggy. Paper hangars came and measured the room. Didn't feel so good today.
