And So It Has Come To An End

Another year has sped by like these cars. Some are glad to see it end due to all the negative and sorrow that were experienced. But through those things we grow and hopefully become stronger. Personally, I've experienced another loss again this year, but have also found blessings galore. I do have faith and hope, and with these things God will help and watch over me.

I pray that in this upcoming year you will find good health, love, understanding and happiness.

"As we look ahead to the new year, lets remember that God has always been and always will be faithful." (from Our Daily Bread devotional)

My morning started with the sounds of the snow plow dropping it's blade against the cement of the street as it made another sweep around the block and by my house. (along with -35 below wind chills and 3 and a half inches of snow) and so the night ends with the sounds of fireworks going off around the city! (Not as many as the fourth of July...probably since it's 18 degrees below zero, with wind chills of -33...)
See there are blessings all around! ha!!

Bye for now...

Christmas and New Years

Christmas morning, my granddaughter and my two greats, came to visit. They had a busy day ahead of them. First Santa came to their house, then to mine, then to their Papa and Mimi's house and off to another Grandmother's house.. and then the day continued. I'm sure they were all tired out when they got home that evening.. smile..

Lorelai thought the suckers were a great treat!! smile.. Especially after running into the house during a downpour. Yes, rain on Christmas in Iowa!! Who knew??? I had never seen that before in my life. It has probably happened, I just don't remember it.

She had to show me her t-shirt she got from Santa...it says BE YOUR BEST!! That's not hard for her as she is always at her best!! She said to me, "I miss Papa Tom", I said, "I know, I do too..." Pure sweetness...

Then there is Maggie!! She loved the suckers too.. Isn't she just adorable???

She made a new friend and learnt a new word RUSTY!! He was so good with her. She discovered, if you tell him to sit up and patty cake, he will perform for a training ball...all day long..ha.ha..

But, after way too many treats, I told her he had had enough...But, as her Mommy told me...no body can say 'no' to Maggie.. (she is just so darn cute!)...

So, here she is getting more treats after I said no...lol!! Mom was right, I couldn't say no...

I hope your Christmas and New Year was a good one.. Sounds like we're in for a little weather here tonight. And the week ahead is to be somewhat chilly!!! Some of our lows are to be below zero...uggg But if memory serves me right...that is the normal for this time of year in Iowa!!

What kind of weather are you having?? Have you made any New Years resolutions? The only one I'm going to try and do is to blog 'at least' once a week and more if possible..

Blessings and good night...

A New Day A New Year

How are your 'new' days?? I was texting my friend in Pennsylvania on New Years Day and she said the sun was up out there. While we were sitting in the dark here in the Midwest. Finally, I told her I had to go and get a picture of the first sunrise of 2015!! I thought it was pretty as the sun was rising, you could still see the house lights along with the Christmas lights..smile..

I tried to capture a different photo as the sun rose on 2015! Beautiful day!!

This has been a busy weekend. We made Chicken noodle soup and vegetable soup. I will be putting the recipes up for all the stuff we made. It all tasted so good!! Today I froze lots of those soups! It will be nice to have them available on days when we don't want to cook! smile.. (or go to the Senior Center..lol)  However, the banana crunch muffins went over so well that there wasn't any left to freeze...smile...

Don't they look yummy?? Well, they are. I found this recipe on line. (I put this recipe on my recipe page! You should try it if you ever have extra bananas!) It's so easy, I've been trying to make these for several days. First time I tried, my eggs weren't any good. (bummer) Friday, we bought some and made them yesterday.

Friday, we did lots of running around. Tom got his hair cut, we stopped at Taco Johns and had a taco, (I had a coupon to get one free!!) Then to Petco, we had gotten Rusty some (recommended) kangaroo jerky which he had a terrible time chewing and swallowing...so they always give you your money or in store credit back. (whether they have eaten some of them or not!), then to a store to replenish our paper goods and then the grocery store (which were in the same shopping center.) It was a little chilly (temps in the 30's), but I told Tom instead of him getting my scooter out and back in and back out, I'd just 'scoot' down the sidewalks (a little over a block) and he could meet me there. Well, it turned out it was pretty chilly... but I survived...lol Oh, and I got my drivers license renewed for another 4 years. (I didn't realize how busy they would be!) I had 11 people ahead of me...when it was finally my turn, the girl was so nice and yet she had been under pressure all day. She said it had been non stop all day and was going to be that way the next day! (Poor thing...)

We woke to the sound of scraping outside our window in our driveway this morning. We have someone doing our snow removal this year. And our temperatures were deadly cold! Bad temps and high winds produce terrible wind chills. And tomorrow we're suppose to get more snow (4-6" inches...sad..) and high winds again. I'm not looking forward to this kind of weather. But I guess it is winter in Iowa...smile..

Hope you're having some nice weather and not sharing ours..smile..

Happy New Years Eve

This morning we had below zero temperatures, and wind chills close to 30 below!! Rusty was smart, after he came in with his poor little cold feet, he laid down by the fire and got nice and toasty!!! My friend stopped by early and fixed my hair on her way to work! (Bless her heart!!) My other friend decided to stay home and will come next week to clean the house. I told her to do what she was comfortable with. (We had snow the day before and since we live on a hill it can be difficult getting up here!! smile.. Trust me I know!!)

Well, have you made any resolutions or things to improve your life?? I told Tom since it's always such a hassle everyday to figure out what to cook or buy for dinner, that we should go to the Senior Center and have lunch there. They cook healthy and filling meals at a very reasonable price. Plus, that would make us get up and go every day and visit with friends etc..! LOL (We only live about 2 miles from the Center!!) (And if Karen doesn't want to come along, we can get a to-go dinner for her!!) Doesn't that sound like a good idea???

I hope you are all staying safe and looking forward to a healthy and blessed New Year!

My New Year’s resolutions are simple. I resolve to be more patient, less selfish, cherish my friends, and in my small way help whoever needs help. I cannot conceivably influence the world’s destiny, but I can make my own life more worthwhile. I can give some help to some people; that is not vital to all the world’s problems and yet I think if everyone did just that, we might see quite a world in our time!

Happy New Years Eve

"Today is our opportunity to make a fresh start!" This was the headlines on the "Dear Abby" column for tomorrow! (Our newspaper will not print a paper tomorrow, so they put extra things in todays paper, like Dear Abby!) When I read that this morning...all I could think of was it doesn't take a New Year for this to happen! Each night when our world turns dark...it's the end of a day and in the morning when the sun rises...we start fresh once again! Another opportunity to start anew!! So we can make a difference each and every day!!!

Happy New Years Eve!!!

Happy New Year 2013

Happy New Year!!! 2013!! I found this beautiful picture on Facebook and wanted to share it with you. It came from Our Prayer's page.

We headed off to the hospital this morning for my tests. And let me tell you, I was very...very tired as I stayed up till midnight and was up early this morning!! smile...

This was so cute...when I checked in at the hospital this lady had all this 'bling' on and I told her I loved it!!! She said since it was New Year's Eve they were told to wear something festive!! And she said at her age she didn't care what  others thought (like that it was too brash!)...ha...ha... I really got a kick out of her! My kind of lady!!

After my tests, we went down to the hospitals cafeteria and had lunch. The food was very good and we both got full! I was so glad to finally have my 'coffee'... It's really hard for me to miss my normal cup of coffee each morning...smile...

On our way home we almost ran over these Tom turkeys...ha...ha..

Later in the day after we took a nap....the doctor called and said my tests came back okay. So that was good news for me. We are home and will soon usher in the New Year...with sugar plums dancing in our heads...smile...

Blessings to all and good night.... See you next year..........

Out with the Old...In with the new....

As I reviewed my 2011 journal last night, I realized how many dear friends we have lost. Life can be so sad at times...however, there were also many wonderful events during the year. And so life is..... I have taken out my new... daily planner for the year 2012. I wonder what these pages will hold by this time next year.

Do you keep a journal each year? To me it is so wonderful to write our thoughts and concerns down each day, as well as our prayer requests, our answered prayers and God's touches!!! Each day... you can see where God touches us with a blessing...but so often we miss them! Just take the time and you will see what he has done. I am going to try and note it each day....then when I look back next year...I will see all His blessings and again praise His name!!

I pray this will be a year full of blessings and love for all of you.
