A Visitor of a Different Kind

I hope you can watch this video, it will show you how this Red-Breasted Nuthatch comes to visit us several times a day. It sits on our window still as you can see. (by the way the music in the background was Johnny Cash...we were watching a Columbo movie that he was starring in..)

It's such a pretty little bird!

Look at its sweet little feet....hanging on for dear life!!!

We're in for some rain this weekend and this is good, as we need it. 'And' our lawn service put on fertilizer which needs to be watered in. I hope we can let God do our watering for us...smile.. I noticed our flowering crab tree is blooming, just hope I get a picture before the rain and wind blow them off..  Do you have any  trees blooming in your area??

Have a good nights sleep.........

Reflections

Here is our granddaughter Ashley. She never needs to buy a mask, she just does the makeup herself. The first one (the zombie) she did a couple years ago, the second one she did yesterday, (a deer)! Isn't she gifted??

Yesterday, we went to the doctor to get our flu shots. Look at this nurse, isn't she adorable?? I know that is not the right word to describe a witch, but that was what came to mind when I saw her. (With that smile, she looks like a 'good witch' doesn't she??) However, she wasn't the one who gave us our shots!! Maybe I wouldn't have called her a good witch if she had. smile...  Have you gotten yours this year yet?? I have a bad headache today, otherwise no aches or pains. That was one of the reasons we didn't go to the fishfry tonight.

Look at the treats that Rusty got last night (from his Mommy and Daddy..)lol  We've given him some of the cookies, but are saving the Mummy for another day. smile... We didn't turn our porch light on last night, we really don't have very many children up here in this area number one, and Rusty would have gone crazy every time the doorbell rang!! (and that would have been stressful on him..they were talking about it on the news and they also said it's hard on the dogs.)

The tree a few days ago...

And here it was yesterday. What happened? Cold weather, that's what has happened. smile..

When we saw all these 20 some turkeys in the neighborhood park, all I could think of was "they came to the park to play!" ha..ha..

Sounds like most of you in the states are experiencing cold weather. Some of you are even experiencing *snow*.  Uggg... I certainly am not looking forward to that this year. Seems the older we get the harder it is to accept winter.

More tomorrow...

Halloween??

I found this picture that I took a few years ago. I just couldn't believe how perfect it was. The wind was blowing that day and it really looked like this little ghost was flying!! smile.. Course I added a few lightening strikes etc.. (but thought it was perfect for Halloween!)

The other evening around six at night, the sun was going down in the west and it just lit up our trees in the east. I said to Tom, can you believe how much more beautiful those trees are?? smile... (And you all know how much I love "yellow"..smile)

When my friend was here Wednesday we spotted 4, yes...four Papa cardinals in the lilac bush. Two of them flew away before I could grab my camera, get it out of the bag, turn it on and snap the picture..sad.. But..she saw them too... Can you see the two of them, one upper left corner and one in the lower right. You can tell their food that their use to finding is gone with fall and winter close by. They are now hitting our feeders! (which we love)

We're in for a very cold night tonight...how about you do you have cooler temps too??

Good night...

Fallish days

Yesterday was officially the first full day of fall here in the states. We had a  rainy, overcast, dreary day. To me it  was one of those days you'd like to curl up on the couch and read a good book. That is about the only thing I could think of that was good about it! ha..ha..  Our big tree out the window looked like it was raining leaves. That poor thing about dropped all its leaves in one day. sad... Our brilliant green curtain has turned into an almost lacy yellow/golden one. Soon we shall be able to see our neighbors on the next street over.

This morning our friend came over and cleaned the house. It was so fun to see and visit with her! Then off we went to the dentist for a filling...however, when he got into the tooth it was cracked in two places. So....it needs to be 'crowned'...does that mean I'll be a queen??? lol

Before I end this post, I have a trivia question for you! Do you have these kind of trees where you live? If so, what do you call them? We've always called them 'cigar trees'.  (Due to those cigar looking things hanging from them.)

Hope you're having a good week!!

Fall Flowers

Our flowers continue to bloom with more and more blossoms!! And look at all the ones that will soon bloom! smile.... Every time we go somewhere we drive by to see how they are doing.

Today, when we were out running an errand today we spotted these beautiful clouds!!

These blooms were at our friends house. They are so pretty...I must ask her what they are! Wednesday we went to Tom's yearly checkup on his heart. It was a long wait for me, and long testing for Tom. Then you wait for the doctor, and hear the results.

By then it was about 2 p.m., so we were hungry..(smile) so we went to Red Lobster for lunch (I had a coupon for $3 off!) I thought that was a good reason to go there....lol Then to Staples to get a new Anti Virus CD, they had a sale on it, plus you could get a ream of paper free!!! Then off to get Tom's hair cut, worked out great, he got right in--so didn't get much of my Book (Sweet on the Cowgirl--by my friend Rose Ross Zediker) read. Anyway by this time, I was ready to go home! However, the traffic was backed up, so we went around a different way! And guess what??? It was worse!! We sat in traffic for quite awhile. It was 4 o'clock when we got home.  And we were to go to a potluck at 5:30. By this time I felt like I had hit a brick wall! But I thought maybe if I rested for an hour or so I'd be okay. But, we stayed home...just wasn't worth pushing myself. (I've had so many call and check on me. What a blessing friends are!!)

Isn't this tree the cutest you've ever seen?? Every time I see it reminds me of a spaceship...lol

Tomorrow...just maybe...I'm going to try our green tomato pie. Stay tuned!!!

Good night...

I am so excited that I won this wonderful cookbook!!! I love Gooseberry Patch cookbooks! Kim over at A Well Seasoned Life had this funtastic giveaway.. It has got Tom in the grilling mood! smile..

Tom was out in the backyard filling the birdbath (spraying the leaves out of the bath..which I'll explain later..) and there is Rusty, he just loves to run around out there.

New territory...he loves to sniff all around the yard, especially when he's on the loose..lol

So, now for the Plus.... We bought some raffle tickets for a possibility of winning a free grooming with Rusty's favorite groomer! The funds went to a MS Walk team! How exciting is that? Great cause and it was a win-win situation! Well....guess who won??? Mr. Rusty!!! smile..

One last thing...one of our Ash trees was loosing leaves like crazy... it looked like fall out there. I was so concerned as it is one of the best trees we have. I called the local greenhouse and he said, due to the water deficit we're having this year, these trees drop leaves to survive. As they can only water so many leaves! Isn't our God amazing what he does?? The tree has stopped dropping leaves and looks very healthy now. (We have gotten a small amount of rain and he said we can water the base of the tree to help it!) Maybe you knew this but was new to me!

About time for bed... have a good day tomorrow..

Birds, Trees and Pop Bottles..........

Every night, I watch the birds fly around in the sky, landing in this tree and that one. Then, one or two will fly away, and all of a sudden the sky will be full of them! smile... Here they finally are roosted in this tree, where they'll spend the night. When morning comes...off they'll go. Do you ever notice this too??

The other day when we were out and about I started taking pictures of different trees. Now, the reason I took this one was because, I was sitting in the van waiting for Tom, and I thought I know there is something around here worth photographing...and this was it! lol Do ever do that?? Where you don't immediately see something that catches your eye, and you have to look for it??

We were at a stop light and I've noticed that tree for sometime, but we're usually zooming by. Then of course when I turned and zoomed in...the light changed and off we went. smile..

Funny..when we left Sam's Club, this lonely tree stood in their parking lot. Tom remarked, wow...I wonder why they didn't just cut that it down. As you can see they have trimmed and trimmed it.. But it will be interesting to see what it looks like this summer.

Wished I had gotten a picture of our pop bottles (2 liter) that Tom had sacked up. He cleaned them out of the garage...smile... (At my request!) This was when I was sitting in the car trying to find something to take a picture of...lol It's nice they have a place like that, but it wasn't in the best neighborhood. ha! Lucky someone didn't knock him in the head and steal this loot of three dollars and seventy cents. lol

Time for bed!

Beautiful Day...

Yesterday we had a high temperature of 65 degrees. Can you imagine this time of the year?? I told Tom, we had to get out and take some pictures...(please.............. ha..ha..) So off we went...and look at this trail!!! Pretty...huh?? Even though the branches are all without any leaves..

Tom spotted this one...he said...hey look at the Big Sioux River. So, I turned around and snapped this shot...hiding behind the trees...

Then we shot up the Missouri river.....sure looks cold...see that ice out there??? brrr....

And just a plain shot of trees, some fallen to the ground...

When we were leaving this area...I spotted these tall trees, along with a few fallen ones.

At another park, I snapped this one of a log cabin, belonging to Bruguier, the first white settler here in Sioux City, IA. You can read about this history here.

The cold...cold...Missouri river, (from a different angle) even though it was so warm!

Then I spotted this walking bridge. It was going across the Big Sioux river, but they had it blocked off so you couldn't use it.. Course, it really is the middle of winter, even though it felt like spring out!!

Today, we went back to our winter, windy, snowy weather...darn.. But it was a nice reprieve yesterday!

Tomorrow we have to get out in some very cold temperatures....and take Karen in for a couple MRI's. Say prayers for her please...

Blessings...
Gert

Fall is in the Air....I Can See it Everywhere..........

Fall has such pretty sites, if you just "stop" and look!! Some are out in the open...

While others are in hiding...smile..

And a few are almost invisible...smile..

The other day when we were leaving the doctors office, I spotted this bush/tree...it is so pretty.  Wish I knew what it is...and why they produce little red berries. Are they ornamental or reproductive berries?? hummm...anyone know??

I know this shot is kind of blurry...but on our way home the other day (when it was raining) we spotted this beautiful tree!! Wish I had gotten a better shot..however, it was so pretty.. I thought it was worth sharing....

And this is what we had the other day! First snow*fall (that amounted to anything..). It's only the beginning, I'm afraid!! Come on 'spring'...lol

Tom is doing very well with his Sleep Apnea machine. He sleeps so much more comfortably..and I can too. smile... No more snoring or gasping for air....yeah!!

We went to the doctor again today...(bright and early) to remove something from Tom's neck....however, the doctor had not told Tom to go off his Coumadin, so he was afraid he'd bleed to much.  So...Monday we have to try it again..smile.. However, the good thing about going early is we stopped at Micky D's for a bite! Tom likes Sausage McMuffin...where I got a  breakfast burrito. BUT...my burrito was so tough. I ate what I could and threw the rest away. sad... I saw a phone number on the receipt to call if you have any concerns, so I called and told them about my experience and she said I could have another one free! So....Monday...I'll try it again. (I told my SIL it was only a dollar, but they should know about the issues...)

I hope you're in for a nice weekend. Sounds like ours will be half way decent..so Tom plans on winterizing the lawn mowers. It's time to do all  those fall things..smile..

Wild Day

Saw this beautiful tree the other day..such a beautiful color!! I love fall......

Have you ever heard that old saying.."the best laid plans go ary"?  That is how I felt today. We had a doctors appointment scheduled, however yesterday our floor drain in the basement was plugged up so when the water softener went off (at the wrong time) we noticed the water wasn't draining right and was backing up. sad.. So this morning I had to change our doctors appointment and call Rotor Rooter!! Also, my son and his wife were coming to pick up the fireplace that Karen wanted moved out of the basement. So our house was busy...busy...busy. smile.. However, the water now drains and that lovely fireplace has a new home!

Saw this tree at our bank, isn't it cool?? Reminds me of an alien spaceship to me..ha..ha..

While some of these things were going on, I also was  trying to straighten out a bill I got from our yard people. Since we had prepaid for the year, I had all the bills for the year so far, along with a statement from last year..showing a credit for services we had paid for but didn't get due to the heat. Long story short..I saved  us several dollars. Yeah!! The lady at the lawn service said she had majored in Art, not accounting! ha.. I said "Oh, that was my forte for 30 some years". ha..ha..

Then this tree I thought was so pretty..

I also had a call today to make an appointment for Tom to set up his sleep apnea machine.  And remember the timer on the water softener? Well, I had to make an appointment to have someone come and check it out! Funny...we had a slow week planned...now it is over flowing... And to think they are predicting snow tomorrow. Yikes!!! Has winter really begun here in Iowa?? Oh, I hope not.

How has your day been??
