Happy Halloween

I had visitors this afternoon.... She (the clown) scared me almost to death when she walked in.  I didn't even realized it was my friend/caregiver.. ha! Then I knew when her children followed her in. It is always fun when they come by, especially on Halloween!! ha! ha! I thought their costumes were amazing...

A couple days before my twin great granddaughters came by. They were selling popcorn for a school fundraiser.. And of course grandma wanted to buy some.. This popcorn is amazing...we used to buy it at the Farmers Market, as they had a booth down there. Tom would say, lets try this one and this one..ha! It's a wonder we didn't gain a million pounds!! ~smile~

Normally whenever kids come to the door to sell their items for school I buy them, as I know what it's like to do that. It takes courage to knock on that door!! I don't remember doing this, but my girlfriend Mary, told me I sold hers along with mine, as she didn't have the nerve to try and sell them..ha ha  Did you ever do that??

Another bird....we call it a "snow bird", because it has a dark body, with a white belly..Their official name is a 'dark eyed Junco'. They too are pretty though.

Our weather has been pretty nice. I have to get out tomorrow morning. But it sounds like we're to get some rain/snow tomorrow night. I feel it's way too early for that again. I will share pictures of our first snow we had tomorrow.

Bye for now...

(Backup) October Catch Up

Last month when I went to the doctor for my B-12 shot, I saw these beautiful (end of the year) "yellow" flowers. I knew I just had to take a picture of them as they basked in the sunlight!! Do you take B-12? Or the shot? Tom used to call them our Brain shots! Ha! Ha! I could see a difference in him after he got it... but wasn't sure about myself. However, since I've been on my own, I can really tell when it's due! They really give me a big boost!!

Rusty had a big birthday last month! He turned 13! The neighbor and her kids brought down cupcakes! He really thought he should have one ....however it was only for us humans! smile... He had also gone to the groomers that day ...so was a busy one for him! She always pampers him...she came to the house and picked him up! He does love her!
And then of course there was Halloween!!! I made this popcorn mix! It was so yummy!! I have Bible study here at the house once a week! We normally have cookies or some kind of treat, so I thought these would be fun! (They loved them!) I'll put the recipe on my recipe page soon!

These are my neighbor kids! Don't you love their outfits?? The first is the boy (that scared me to death-almost!) And the girl, "pumpkin face" was scary too! They got a bag of treats and then they went out Trick or Treating with their Mom and Dad!! Did you have a lot of little goblins at your house?

My other neighbor girl came over to show me her dress she got for Prom! Isn't she beautiful? And, guess what she was nominated Queen!! She's one of those people who have it all..brains and beauty!! She's so nice. Just a lovely girl! (Her Mom was straightening the back of her dress!.,)

Hope you're enjoying your fall weather. We're getting some really cold temps this week. To be in the teens tonight...brrrrr

Blessings...

Hallowen Party

Yesterday there was a Halloween Party at the Rehab Center! I got there just in time to have lunch with my hubby! It was so fun to see him again... ha...ha.. The day before was so rainy and cold that I stayed home and tended to busy. My first appointment was cancelled, but I was surprised that I had another one decided to come by and work on the my computer. I decided to get a hospital bed (or at least rent one for awhile) and those people came by at the same time. I did get the bed but realized I didn't have any bedding for a twin bed. I called a friend to see if she had some, which she didn't, but said she'd have something here by evening. And she did...bless her heart...she went to a secondhand shop, and found a pretty set for a dollar!! Then later her and her husband went to the Goodwill and found a nice blanket for the bed. She washed and dried all of this bedding, the blanket was still warm when she got here!! Unbelievable what a true friend she really is. I feel this reading totally fits her:
Matthew 25:31-40
31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

There were lots and lots of people and children at the party. They had games for them to play, and a haunted house to go into. It was a blast for the children, they got lots of treats and food and drinks.

I'm so sorry this picture shows my dear friend frowning...so unusual for her.:( But look at her adorable granddaughter. She is a spitting imagine of her grandma when she was her age!

Granddaughter Wendy and the twins came and had fun too. They were dressed as Salt and Pepper. This was their costume from last year that their Mimi made for them. The hats looked like shaker lids. Just so cute!!

And then there was Lorelai and her Mommy Lacey. She was so pretty all dressed up as Elsa!!!

Love her shoes, aren't they adorable??

It was a great day for us. Today, I'm tired and sore, but am anxious for tomorrow when Tom will come home for a walk around, to be sure he can do what is necessary to be home for good!
(Prayers please..)

Blessings to your SONday!

Reflections

Here is our granddaughter Ashley. She never needs to buy a mask, she just does the makeup herself. The first one (the zombie) she did a couple years ago, the second one she did yesterday, (a deer)! Isn't she gifted??

Yesterday, we went to the doctor to get our flu shots. Look at this nurse, isn't she adorable?? I know that is not the right word to describe a witch, but that was what came to mind when I saw her. (With that smile, she looks like a 'good witch' doesn't she??) However, she wasn't the one who gave us our shots!! Maybe I wouldn't have called her a good witch if she had. smile...  Have you gotten yours this year yet?? I have a bad headache today, otherwise no aches or pains. That was one of the reasons we didn't go to the fishfry tonight.

Look at the treats that Rusty got last night (from his Mommy and Daddy..)lol  We've given him some of the cookies, but are saving the Mummy for another day. smile... We didn't turn our porch light on last night, we really don't have very many children up here in this area number one, and Rusty would have gone crazy every time the doorbell rang!! (and that would have been stressful on him..they were talking about it on the news and they also said it's hard on the dogs.)

The tree a few days ago...

And here it was yesterday. What happened? Cold weather, that's what has happened. smile..

When we saw all these 20 some turkeys in the neighborhood park, all I could think of was "they came to the park to play!" ha..ha..

Sounds like most of you in the states are experiencing cold weather. Some of you are even experiencing *snow*.  Uggg... I certainly am not looking forward to that this year. Seems the older we get the harder it is to accept winter.

More tomorrow...

Halloween??

I found this picture that I took a few years ago. I just couldn't believe how perfect it was. The wind was blowing that day and it really looked like this little ghost was flying!! smile.. Course I added a few lightening strikes etc.. (but thought it was perfect for Halloween!)

The other evening around six at night, the sun was going down in the west and it just lit up our trees in the east. I said to Tom, can you believe how much more beautiful those trees are?? smile... (And you all know how much I love "yellow"..smile)

When my friend was here Wednesday we spotted 4, yes...four Papa cardinals in the lilac bush. Two of them flew away before I could grab my camera, get it out of the bag, turn it on and snap the picture..sad.. But..she saw them too... Can you see the two of them, one upper left corner and one in the lower right. You can tell their food that their use to finding is gone with fall and winter close by. They are now hitting our feeders! (which we love)

We're in for a very cold night tonight...how about you do you have cooler temps too??

Good night...

Free items and more

I saw this house the other day....what do you think...maybe overkill?? lol Looked like they love Halloween! smile..

Don't these clouds look like a ripple effect?? ..That's why I call them ripple clouds..

I was thinking the other day about "free" things. (yes, I know these beautiful clouds are a free gift from God! smile...)

Okay...my list contained free items from McDonalds...such as 'when you buy 5 latte's you get one 'free'! Now with their Monopoly game, when you buy different items you get some little game pieces. We had two the other day. Tom got a 'free' McFlurry and I got a 'free' yogurt and fruit! And then there is Panera Bread! By joining their club..I got a free coffee or drink for a month!!! Then there are free sandwiches every once in awhile and a sweet treat! Then there is Chilie's. Love that restaurant!!! By joining their club they send out coupons for either a 'free' appetizer or dessert. Oh, and that dessert is to die for!!!! Then there is Papa Johns..when you order so many pizza you get a 'free' one!!

There is Staples...you can so many different things 'free' from them. The other day we went in and I got a free ream of paper!! The last on my list is Menards! They have lots of rebate items. The other day I had a check from them for over $11, which you have to spend in their store. Course that's never an issue for us as that is where we 'always' get out bird seed and dog treats. smile..

Do you ever get into these things?? Joining a restaurant club and or taking the time to mail in rebates??

Hope you're having a good week! Pssst: Tomorrow is my sweet loving man's 75th birthday!!!

Happy Halloween

Again...Happy Halloween...isn't this a pretty picture?? I found it a few years ago and fell in love with it!

Look at the twins...I sent them a card and their Mommy posted this on Face Book, with that comment.

Today, I went to my MS doctor for a check up. Look at the front desk gals, they were dressed up as spice jars. I called them the "Spice Girls", then the other girls are my MS nurses. They are mother and daughter!! All is well with MS! smile.. Or at least as good as it can be considering, my history and age. So that is good!

I wanted to take a picture at this one spot today... Isn't this  pretty? I have more to share later, they are all just beautiful!!

Hope you had a good day!

Busy Day...

The other morning, I came walking into the kitchen, I spotted this beautiful sunrise out the window...(it was quite chilly that day) so Tom stepped out and shot this photo!! At about the same moment, my son Randy texted me to say..'check out that sunrise'!!! smile... great minds!!!

Tuesday when we went to therapy, I spotted this and thought it was so pretty...the landscape just goes on and on...smile...

The other evening, our bird bath was empty 'again'...the robins were going through the water like crazy!!! But I thought this little robin was looking at me like..."I want some more water"!!! smile... The next morning Tom filled the bath but, all I've seen are some 'snow birds' since then, so I assume the robins have headed south for the winter....sad... I will miss them.... (maybe he was telling me goodbye for this year....)

Yesterday, we made this Quiche  It was amazing...just like it was when we had it down to my sister in laws. Before we made it, I called her to tell her we were going to make it, BUT I had a question...the recipe calls for a 'baked' pie shell...now whenever I baked a pie shell, I'd prick it with a fork so it wouldn't bubble. But I thought if I did that I'd have holes in the bottom of my shell and I couldn't imagine pouring a liquid (Quiche mixture) in it...but she said it would be okay and of course it was!

Hope you had a nice Halloween and saw a few little goblins...smile... or maybe some 'big' ones...lol This is our granddaughter Ashley....she did this makeup herself!! scary....

Tomorrow's Red Hat day...speaking of...I worked this morning setting up a blog for our Red Hat group...I  hope the ladies enjoy it!

I end this with thoughts and prayers for all those on the east coast who are suffering now from this disaster... May the victims find comfort in Jesus' words in John 16:33, "..in Me you may have peace; in the world you will have tribulation, but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world." We pray this in Jesus' name, amen.

Happy Halloween!

Oh look at our little Owl...Lorelai! smile... Isn't she and her costume adorable?? And not too spooky...ha..ha... Looks like her treat might have been a little 'teddy bear'..smile...

Look, what we saw yesterday..ha...ha... Don't you just love this time of the year?? You see a little bit of everything...don't you??

After therapy yesterday, we stopped for lunch, then went into WalMart to do a little shopping.  We picked up a few honey crisp apples. If you've ever had one, you'll know how amazing they are, if not..head to your nearest store and buy one.

Of course, I had to have a bouquet of fall flowers...they are so pretty! I can't believe how festive they are on our table!!

Tom spotted the moon this morning...of course you know that photos never do any justify to actually being there. I hope you're having a 'spookful' Halloween!!

Apple Pie & Grandma...

Remember all those apples we got at the apple orchard?? Well, today I got in the mood to bake a pie!! We are waiting for it to cool so we can have a piece..ala mode...smile....

I found this recipe on allrecipes.com as the one I use to make was in my Betty Crocker cookbook from 1961..smile... So you can or maybe you can't imagine what it looks like today. That recipe is missing...ha So, I tried this recipe today!

Apple Crumb Pie

INGREDIENTS:
Pastry for a single-crust 9-inch pie
6 cups chopped, peeled tart apples
2 tablespoon butter, melted
2 tablespoons sour cream
4 teaspoons lemon juice
1/2 cup sugar
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
TOPPING:
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup cold butter

DIRECTIONS:
1. Line a 9-inch pie plate with pastry; flute edges. In a large bowl, combine the apples, butter, sour cream, lemon juice, sugar, flour, cinnamon and nutmeg. Spoon into pastry shell. For topping, combine flour and sugar in a bowl; cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle over filling.
2. Bake at 375 degrees F for 45-50 minutes or until the filling is bubbly and the apples are tender. Cool on a wire rack.

My Grandma!

Yesterday, I was telling you about popping corn and how yummy it was and still is today! smile... Today I posted a You Tube video (there was no voice to this one) that shows my grandparents and some friends back in the 50's. (The friend is a Methodist minister) At the beginning it shows Grandma pouring coffee for her guests...sweet.... Then it shows Grandpa Neil popping corn, he shows their friends the jug of sorghum molasses that Grandma's sister and her family raised and gave her each year! smile...Now back to the silent movie...smile... it shows them making Molasses Popcorn balls...like they did each year to hand out at Halloween! smile... The rest of the movie shows different things we wanted to save. If you watch it all... there is a segment of Grandma's neighbors flower beds...these are peonies...he raised them and sold them to people for memorial decorations. Back then...people use to put live flowers on the graves, sometimes in fruit jars... Also..there are segments of the Goodwill Camp where kids went to and pictures of the Goodwill and the South Bottoms that you hear me talking about a lot!  Well, I hope you enjoy this You Tube video.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVoir633jOs

Blessings and I hope you had a wonderful SONday!!!!

"The Many Thoughts of Grace"

December 22, 1936:
Went up town and mailed packages and cards. Went over to Gunnerson's. Went back up to Gunnerson's. Went to decorate at church. Bill teased. "Have a nice time last night? Did you mean it?" Barbara forgot her doll up to Hallie's.  Got hankie from Dwight Leslie. Collar from Sadie. Powder puffs from Morey girls.

December 23, 1936:
Nellie came down to see if I would iron for her. She came after me at one. Ironed, scrubbed, washed dishes etc. came home about 7:30.
